Snowkiting Mount Washington 2011 (so far so good)

crabnebula - 31-3-2011 at 03:30 PM

Snowkiting sorta just ended in the North Conway NH area....but has been going great on Mount Washington. Now we are getting a nice big storm and the fields AND LAKES are gonig to be good to go AGAIN!!

Anyone looking to get there fix in with Snowkiting COME ON UP!!!

Stop in at IME and or call me...Zebulon ...Ill give you the scoop

But I must add that Mount Washington is really not bad this year, after a few trips up there kiting since early Feb to now (today was nice) I would say that it is actually going to get better....nothing like last year, but...Ill take what we get.

today there was nice soft wind on the West side of Clay and Jefferson where the kiting was best..

Mount Washington was in the clouds most of the day and there are more rocks than last year,..but not as many as the year previous to last.

Come all, come soon..

If you dont know what your doing above treeline snowkiting on snow.....call me or reach me at IMCS... and Ill be your kite guide! I can tell you where, when, and how to get up there and snowkite safely....

Hope you are all well..

Mount Washington has once again produced awesome kiting conditions....NW switched to W winds....20-30 in the AM and turned buttery smooth later in the day....14-19 mph.

Very cold, wind chill is in the house....and more or less the ground is still VERY frozen and crunchy.

Cant wait for next week when the temps are going to be up...

For those who dare tomorrow looks great up high but a little strong in the AM and diminishing later..

Good luck have fun and maybe Ill see you up there,

I was on 9 m Frenzy today....usually I'm on 8m Manta II...Im going to be playing around for the rest of the spring up there so I may stash some gear (extra lines, food water etc...if anyone needs some let me know)

Have fun and BE SAFE!

how long will this last?

crabnebula - 9-4-2011 at 06:02 AM

Im in the office today but next week there maybe a few days that are possible.

I have a few people that are hiring me to take them up above treeline and snowkite. It is a bit of a serious affair as the weather and wind up high are much much different then anything on lakes, fields, or even at places like Skyline in Utah.

It is MUCH more aggressive and requires riders to be way WAY more responsible in terms of what you bring where do you go and how to get out let alone kiting on snow.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.....how long will this last...until the snow melts and the wind dies. However that being said I don't know.

Today looks GREAT!!! I'm bummed that I cant get up there but that is ok.

It is NW switching to SW which means a WHOLE lot of terrain is open for the best land exploring!

Nonetheless....after today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) things look a little shaky.

If you are interested in the real deal check out IMCS and the kite mountaineering program that is really taking off...no pun intended.

Mount Washington and the Presidential Ridge is the only place East of the Mississippi River that has Snowkiting above treeline. IMCS is the ONLY company perhaps in the USA that runs a comprehensive snowkite program including Kitemountaineering.

Have a great day and be safe!

Mount Washington Good but melting (on sunday)

More good days logged in.
Unbelievably cold today for the day,...very icy.

Rocks are really showing through up around the summits of Jefferson Washington and Clay...

On a snow patch over by Sam Adams (not the beer duh) was pretty good but had to put kite away and walk a bit for rocks are filling in,

I would just let people know that the conditions are full on winter; Cold, Icy, and rocks are everywhere...more now then in Feb and March by a lot.

Winds have been great this year, better than last year but the snow was better last year.

Hope anyone who gets up there is ready for the ride.

Any questions feel free to contact me at IMCS 603 356 7064

or on my cell.

Bye for now, Busy snowkiting!
