so i had a great buggy sesh with the phantom.... pseudo good winds (as far as Nebraska goes)... topped 20mph Woohooo!

anyway, i'm packing up... and a car pulls up and stops. A guy walks up to me... i figure he's going to tell me i cant fly at the soccer field, like usual... turns out, this guy is a certified paragliding instructor!!!!!

He and a few others fly off of a local radio tower, and do "drag" launches.... He tells me, his wife saw the phantom, and called him, and told him another paraglider was just landing at my fields... He was so freaked that there was another glider, he came right over! well after a half hour of comparing kites and gliders, i may have an "in" into go paragliding!

This guy and a few friends base jump, tow fly, use "power packs (fuel powered motors) and "ridge ride" the hills around here... I'm not gonna lie, this kinda gets me the same way kites do! holy crap... a 2000' loft, I'M IN!!

Long story short....

:wee::wee::wee::wee:

this is something i really want to try, any pointers out there!?!

who knew you could have some fun in Nebraska!!?!

That's awesome man!!

stetson05 - 9-4-2011 at 05:34 AM

Its amazing, and even more expensive than kites. Did I say it is amazing!

BeamerBob - 9-4-2011 at 11:37 AM

No shame in liking that. It's just bigger kites using the wind. The equipment is stellar but the risks are greater. You're "all in" with the paragliding.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!!
you will not regret it, totally steller!!!

I tell you what!
If I were you I would run and hide, but your not me so go have some fun with it. If being that high up is good fun for you than enjoy. Myself I would not enjoy it at all!! Can you say ViRtIgO?

Yeah, paragliding is a lot of fun. I like kiting better but it's definitely top 5 for me. Had to give it up when I crashed...that's actually what got me into kiting. Don't want to deter you just make sure you take lessons, fly with others who have been doing it for a while if possible and know your weather (thermals, rotors, what different clouds mean, etc)....have fun if you give it a go!

so I spent my lunch hour with my new paragliding instructor, turns out he has a few extra motors and a few extra wings. on the next windy weekend I'm going to show him how to kite, or the next calm day, he is going to show me how to paraglide ( or start to anyway )

Woohoo! I may get to fly a 30m foil this weekend lol!
