Changing your avatar picture

Seanny - 9-4-2011 at 10:12 PM

How is this even possible? It's difficult just getting a picture down to below 100 x 125 pixels, but even after I do that it still says it's too big. So how do you change it? I somehow managed to get it to accept the one I have now; then, I went back and tried to put in the exact same picture in, and it said it was too big? :puzzled:

Assuming you are on Windows:

Verify the size of the image. In Explorer, Right-Click, Select Properties, and go to the Details Tab.

If even one dimension is off, but even a pixel, the forum software will reject it.

To easily resize images:

Xnview (the Mac OSX version is available, but in beta)
http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html

The edited picture is for sure below the dimensions the forum requires. It's still rejecting it. And if I took off my current picture, then tried to set it again, it'd give me an error message. It's completely inconsistent.

Maybe the forum software has some French code in it, and you have offended it. You know how touchy the French can be :wow:

Feel free to send over the pic to my profile email, if you want to to take a look at it.

Sam

The French are going to surrender to Gaddafi. Libyan forces are going to throw rocks at their fighters, and the pilots are going to wet themselves and turn back. Then call upon America to "Eh lendeh our assistonce", THEN the rest of the world is going to be mad at us for interfering.

...And my profile picture still won't be fixed.

Remember that's 25.87 kilobytes.

I'll be happy too edit it if you want as-well.

I got the picture down to 14.5 KB and 99 x 97 pixels. Still rejected. Couldn't tell you why. :dunno:

WIllardTheGrey - 9-4-2011 at 11:48 PM

Send it too me I'll try.:puzzled:

flexiblade - 10-4-2011 at 01:47 AM

and that is the first time I've changed my avatar in 3 years. 13 KB file altered (shrunk) using photoshop elements.

rocfighter - 10-4-2011 at 05:28 AM

Seany I think I sent mine either wo Sam or Todd! But they fixed it up for me because I am NOT able to do this either. I even took a course on it and can't do it.
Can you say computer illiterate? Sure I knew you could!

indigo_wolf - 10-4-2011 at 08:44 AM

The one that Willard attached should work. There is also one in your inbox from me.

I can't update my profile because it wount accept the picture that is already on my profile. My quiver is different than what is posted but I havent been able to change it due to the pic

Seanny - 10-4-2011 at 04:09 PM

W00t!! Got it! Now there's 5 people with the same pic floating around LOL.

I had the same problem as Stetson ^^^^

I had to first clear the current picture URL, and select the "Delete avatar picture" box. Then, go back and change it to a new one. Turns out, you can have a picture much bigger than 100 by 125 pixels :P But when I try to edit my profile info, it might give me a hassle again.

stetson05 - 28-6-2011 at 09:27 AM

I am going to try this again. My profile is horribly outdated cause of the pic.

Edit
Worked but I need to find a pic.

macboy - 28-6-2011 at 12:22 PM

I found that sometimes it's the JPEG quality that has the most control over the file size and just by dropping it down a notch you can still get a physically big image up.

WIllardTheGrey - 28-6-2011 at 01:47 PM

Here's one if you want...

WP-23lg.jpg - 7kB

Looking_Up - 22-7-2011 at 04:10 PM
