Megatron Chicken Loop

??? Will the depower line that comes with the CL support 16 inches of throw on a Fllysurfer bar. I read somewhere the depower line supplied is 36 inches long.......gracias!

Kamikuza - 20-4-2011 at 06:08 AM

The standard throw for the non-Infinity bar seems to be 40 cm; bar on the CL to top knot or bottom of gust damper. The rest of all that is the bloody bowline at the adjuster and whatever needs to be knotted below the CL.

This on the P3? The one I made is longer ... cos the 'spinning handle' takes up more line. It's just Amsteel Blue 5mm IIRC with a core of 200kg line. Which you probably don't need anyway

Anyway, it should be 40cm as it is now ... unless it's a different bar

Its for my 12m Pulse 2.....you did an awesome job on the P3..........................a 36 inch bowline would be awesome!

Is there a Ozone distrib/dealer here on PKF that has the Megatron in stock?

WIllardTheGrey - 21-4-2011 at 01:31 AM

I believe Kent has em.

IIRC the OE Silverline (what the FSer call their depower line) is shorter than the one I made :(

Just watch out - there used to be 2 versions, with a spinning handle with a hole and one without.

The Beal line that they come with is probably long enough to do the business out to about 50cm of depower throw BUT the reason I ditched it and went through the shennanigins of whatever I did was that the Beal line seem to have a breaking load of about 1,200kg ... the Amsteel I used is 2,500kg or so.

Ooh look a Psycho 3 bar being rebuilt! :D

If you DIY you can make it as long as you like ;)

tridude - 21-4-2011 at 04:19 AM

you def have skillz.............................was it hard to learn to loop and weave amsteel?

Kamikuza - 21-4-2011 at 04:35 AM

Not really ... is pretty simple :) wasted a bit, playing around and trying things though!

WIllardTheGrey - 21-4-2011 at 05:04 AM

Why the extra core? I'm receiving 3m of 8mm later today to make a strop out of and I can't think a reason why to use a core.

Kamikuza - 21-4-2011 at 05:10 AM

Cos ... cos .... cos that's what the real ones have
8mm wouldn't get through the bits'n'pieces of the hardware. 5mm is a tight squeeze, adding a 1.7mm core makes it even tighter. I was hoping to use 2.3mm (1,500kg breaking load IIRC) as a core but altogether, it just wont fit :(

Having a core means you can let the wear on the depower line got longer without getting paranoid :o

Kami I seem to remember something along the lines of having issues with the black outer coating on the line that originally with your chicken loop. Was it too thick to pass through the bar with FDS installed??? In the next couple weeks I'm ordering a water helmet and was thinking of also getting a megatron chickenloop for the sp2. Would I just be able to add the chicken loop onto the existing depower line without changing it out???

tridude - 21-4-2011 at 12:53 PM

.....ordered thru AWOC.............thanks Kent!

Here is the prevouis post about converting flysurfer bars to the Megatron CL. I used Amsteel line from West Marine because the line that comes with it is shorter.

Kamikuza - 21-4-2011 at 05:32 PM

Yeah I pulled off the PU coating ... it made the line a touch thicker than the OE lines but the biggest problem was it was too short.

You can see here that the spinning handle is going to eat up about 2 inches of depower if you just swap lines over. And IIRC the OE FS line won't fit through the handle's PU tube. You need that little bit of tube to hold the handle in place ...

Kamikuza - 21-4-2011 at 05:37 PM

Oh, FYI Flysurfer uses Liros DC300 as the core in their "Silverline" depower rope - which is just 300kg flying line. It'd be a bit hard to lock-stitch without a machine though, and while the La#@%$#!! is only like ~200kg it's easier to stitch :D

AD72 - 21-4-2011 at 08:48 PM

I need to put some of that PU tube on the line because my spinning handle runs up the line.

Tri..How come you did not go for the North Ironheart for your new FSers?

Kamikuza - 21-4-2011 at 11:29 PM

You only need it under the handle though - OD 8mm IIRC ...

I'd LOVE to get an Iron Heart 3 but have yet to find the part supplier for them :(
