Well after yesterdays spill I was left with a nice playa kiss so I thought I'd share my procedure for fast healing of road rash and get others
panaceas. Lord knows I'm practically an expert at it by now. I'll start with supplies.
First thing EVERYONE needs in their first aid kit is this https://www.bravesoldier.com/first-defense.php Cleaning the wound immediately is best, won't have to "scrub" it later if you spray now. It also
has lidocaine in it, after a few minutes you'll be comfortable. Next you'll need this in your kit too https://www.bravesoldier.com/antiseptic-healing-ointment.php its like neosporin on natural steroids, developed specifically for road rash. I swear
on this and anyone I've given a tube to instantly becomes a convert. Mostly natural and also has lidocaine :wee:
NON STICK PADS! I can't stress enough how important that is if you want to be healed in 4-5 days. Yes I said 4-5 days, that fast! They allow air in and
out while keeping moisture in. Also grab gauze netting. It will keep the pad in place, especially on tricky surfaces like the knees or elbows. Though
you may have to endure some "nice gay stalkings" jokes.
Now application.
Keep your rash covered at all times! Change your bandages 2-3 times a day and re apply a healthy amount of brave soldier ointment. You're trying to
prevent scabbing and keeping the wound moist at all times will allow you to move, flex, and bend without cracking open a nasty scab. Try this and you
will be HEALED in 7 days tops, usually about 3 or 4 days the wound is covered in new pink skin.
Or you can just walk it off, that works too.

This is good info. I'll have to add this to a real big boy first aid kit in the car. BTW, I'm sure you win the longest thread name award in pkf
history. lol.erratic winds - 21-4-2011 at 02:54 PM
Yup, if you can protect it well enough to prevent the scab, you're healed in a week on most road rashes, excellent advice all-around! I might have to
get some of that 'first defense' spray! Its size certainly means it can find a home nearly anywhere, the sprays I see in the store are always bottles
that are 9-10" tall!Cheddarhead - 21-4-2011 at 02:56 PM
Thanks for the good info, I'll put it to use the next time I contract road rash.
A regular "medicine man". This could constitute being a sticky on the board.702dirtsurfer - 21-4-2011 at 03:40 PM
Fixed the link. As my dad still loves to remind even though I've been hearing it since I was a kid, "if you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough" lol
I'm sure Indigo will pop in with a little factoid on longest thread name ahaha.
BB, yeah man if you become regular then you gotta have the spray. The playa has micro-organisms living in it and that spray applied immediately
greatly reduces the risk of infection. A playa kiss left untreated can get ugly, fast.
I leave my bandages off for an hour MAX EACH day. The bandages are designed to let air in so you're not promoting a bacteria playground, and keeping
it on creates a moisture layer the rash is constantly absorbing. Much like a 3rd degree burn, the body will re route a lot of its moisture to the
wound, so even in an hr the wound can start the process of scabbing by drying up.
just someone who's observed the numerous amounts of road rash I've acquired, no peyote to be a medicine man :Ange09:nocando - 21-4-2011 at 04:11 PM
May be worth a look at this stuff
I was wearing a draggin jeans jacket and pants at NABX
def good info.
first day just keep riding no sense in wasting good air. then hot shower and shave it same day. h2o2 ouch! dry it, neosprin, dry! skin around
wound (alcohol even better). big fabric bandaid maybe 2 firmly placed.
leave alone a solid 24-48hrs, the drier you keep it the better but i always get them wet anyway. not a fan of hi frequency bandage change.
usually about every 4-5showers i change them, same as first day EVERYTIME.
the trick is to keep it moist, the tissue heals faster without the restrictive scab, certainly better movement without cracking pain esp. in joint
and hi flex areas.
the compression help comfort esp. the first night as well as prevents sticking to the bed sheets.
tedious attention for the first week makes all the difference.
good one 702dirtsurfer!702dirtsurfer - 21-4-2011 at 05:38 PM
Exactly Phree, tedious is the name of the game! That's why I keep the spray, wound addressed and little wind wasted!
I used to shave the area around the rash for better bandage sticking before discovering the dressing netting. It comes in different "tube" diameters
for different limbs and is cut to length plus you don't get the urge to scratch the wounded area when hair starts growing in. Never been a fan of
medical tape and other tapes collect junk on the side of the roll. The netting can be placed in a ziploc bag and kept sterile until used and also
packs much flatter than any tape
Those are pretty spiffy jeans Nocando! A little overkill for my taste though. If you can rip through Wranglers and pads then you need racing leathers.indigo_wolf - 21-4-2011 at 05:59 PM

Hehe, its an honor to be above Hal
That white film is what you're looking for, I call it a moisture scab. Little stabbing around the edges but nothing major and I can still bend my knee
without re injuring the wound.
