Aborted replys

John Holgate - 22-4-2011 at 09:54 PM

I often find myself typing out a reply then going 'nah, you'll just sound like an idiot' and erasing it.

Am I alone in this? Or is it that I really am an idiot?

Pulsar - 22-4-2011 at 09:58 PM

i often start a reply, completely delete it, rephrase the same thing, do it twice more, then forget to press "post". I notice an open reply page about 5 hours later, copy what i was going to say, read the reactions posted meanwhile, see that what i wanted to say has already been posted by others, and close the page.

Actually happens more on other forums, not all that much on this one.

airin - 22-4-2011 at 10:42 PM

Yeah, I hear ya'. I often come by this forum for a read and though I generally am not keen on being just a lurker in any forum, in this one I too often start a reply and then think, 'naw, that sounds kinda dumb'....and just close the window without posting....sigh... Seems like most regular posting folks are so much more experienced and knowledgeable....maybe after another season or two of buggying I'll feel like I have some helpful posts that I can actually submit. :bigok:

Good to know I've got some non-posting company though! :bouncy:

I abort a lot of replies. Most times, I just save them as text files. So, officially, I guess it's an aborted reply with a rewind switch.

And just because it seems appropriate:

Don't Push Send
This is a story a very sad tale
Of intrigue and romance and electronic mail
A dangerous form of information, and the perils of instant gratification
How many times did I hit my Mac want to crawl inside and take the whole thing back
But its no use say it again and again
Don't push send
Carol wrote about her job's frustrations
What drove her crazy with aggravation
A list of every person's faults,
Precise and pithy, wry insults
She sent it off to her best friend
But saw with horror as she pushed send
She hit the keys and began to roar
She'd she'd copied the entire office floor
Chorus: Don't push send
Don’t push send
There are things that you just can amend
I tell myself again and again
Don't push send
Katherine wrote a note to her husband Ben
Using their pet names and vowing devotion
She said meet me at home in a little while
I'll be there waiting, wearing nothing but a smile
But then she goes her answer from his great granddad lee. Saying
" I don't think that this was meant for me" It was nice, but I'll forward it to my great grandson, it's been
years since anybody called me sugar buns.”
Chorus
The day was tough the week had really been somethin'
Jane got a message that pushed her buttons
She shot back as if her words were guns
Capitalizing every single one
She should have waited she should know
E-mail doesn't mix with merlot
She had to write back as you could guess
Plead e-mail recklessness and PMS
Bridge
Just stop and think when I'm on the brink
Walk away from your computer
Cause you can bet I' will regret
And feel like such a loser
Chorus
After opposing counsel acted like jerks
Joe got a letter from his law partner at work
He meant to make a changes, cut and paste
But sent it off in his efficient haste
He tried to delete, he tried to stop the note
But the letter had flown and that was all she wrote
The message was polite with professional class
But the subject line still said "what a ass"
Chorus:

ATB,
Sam

Kamikuza - 23-4-2011 at 02:18 AM

carltb - 23-4-2011 at 03:00 AM

Guilty. Too new to this and so much more to learn.
Trying to keep to a "ears open; mouth closed" policy.
Then I feel guilty for just asking questions.

frankiter - 23-4-2011 at 06:22 AM

I also do it too. Ahh, wait, let me rephrase that.........

mougl - 23-4-2011 at 06:26 AM

Constantly...

Nah, this whole forum is about information and enjoyment - ask away!!

One thing I do often worry about is translation - often what I would say down this end of the planet may not translate as I intended at the other end of the planet - particularly the aussie slang. Although I'm actually english. shhhhh......

flyguy0101 - 23-4-2011 at 06:34 AM

I think... but maybe they wont get it...... i forgot to add periods.... regularly type then delete.... glad to know i am not alone

Bladerunner - 23-4-2011 at 07:43 AM

PHREERIDER - 23-4-2011 at 07:52 AM

the perception of always having to be RIGHT cripples us

the more we engage each other the more the world will surprise us

just like this thread

Bladerunner - 23-4-2011 at 08:07 AM

I read a great T-shirt in Vegas.

It says : If you agree with me odds are we are BOTH wrong !

macboy - 23-4-2011 at 08:14 AM

Sorry it took so long to chime in. I'd typed a few replies but never committed to any of them......

Drewculous - 23-4-2011 at 08:43 AM

i do it too... mostly because my input isnt.... productive, maybe... Im a BSing salesman by nature.

so for me to chime in is damn near second nature, but a lot of my posts get the hold order, just because i feel i've posted enough already lol

Ask Kami about some long winded u2us

 Love it!

...too true.;-)

snowspider - 23-4-2011 at 05:04 PM

I'll tinker with a reply sometimes for quite a while before posting it , over think it , bad grammar ,type slow, cant spell , in the end its nice to put some thing out there to people who know and understand.
Spent 2 hours buggying and bare foot scudding in wet grass at the park today , mad fun!
There , now its out there and you know how I feel about it.

Taper123 - 23-4-2011 at 05:28 PM

I should abort some messagess... but occasionally I have been told by my wife that I have a case of cranial-rectumitis that randomly develops which causes me to hit the send button.

rocfighter - 23-4-2011 at 05:30 PM

I am not often concerned about being write, right, rite, oh what ever.

greasehopper - 23-4-2011 at 05:47 PM

Phree nailed it !!!

When I'm workin' out some convoluted idea in my melon, I try to ask for view points from as many diverse angles as possible because there is never a single RIGHT answer.

(Except for that one time when I unwittingly asked an MIT professor... and was convinced he was full of poop... and turned out to be spot on... )

The point is, I don't know enough about the game to speak to it but I hang on every word you guys post !!!

That's not lurking, it's LEARNING !

WIllardTheGrey - 23-4-2011 at 08:37 PM

I have done that... type, type.... nah Inigo Indigo:embarrased: will say it better... delete ... two hours later, yep he did.:bigok:

macboy - 23-4-2011 at 09:03 PM

Just aborted another. Thought you'd like to know.

WIllardTheGrey - 23-4-2011 at 09:33 PM

So.. what was it?

Now here's an idea post all the aborts here..:bouncy:

It will become the waste paper basket thread.

I abort replies at an astounding rate :duh:

In fact, I aborted this one also. Then decided to just do it anyway :)
