Power Kite Forum

clever fellow, even with instructions

Snowkiter, Vermont USA
dumb ass

nocando - 24-4-2011 at 07:08 PM

yes what a big dumbalina, he is a candidate for a traction bed

Seanny - 24-4-2011 at 07:25 PM

Wouldn't be that bad if he didn't have a tether and did have a helmet. Everyone's gotta learn somehow... but I'd rather learn the right way instead of... Well. That way. And if that kind of #@%$#! persists, he'll end up learning the VERY hard way.

flexiblade - 24-4-2011 at 09:28 PM

And make the rest of us look like idiots - hence, if you ever see anyone doing this - make them stop not only for their safety but for the sake of other kiters. We don't need this to be our calling card.

Kamikuza - 24-4-2011 at 10:55 PM

... and the soccer dudes at the end of the field are like "WE GOTTA GET EM ALL BANNED FROM EVERYWHERE!"
Hope it's nobody we know :o

burritobandit - 24-4-2011 at 11:59 PM

I know we're not supposed post links to other forums, but this one's relevant. It's the kiter (snowkiter17) in the video posting to KiteCrowd and getting told various things by KC members:
http://forum.kitecrowd.com/kite-videos/peter-lynn-10m-amateu...

If a mod wants me to take it down, just let me know and I will. I just figured people here (mainly kiters in/near Vermont) would want to see what the guy had to say about it and his attitude about the video/criticism.

Personally, I think for him claiming to have flown an 8m Access 'for over a year', he displayed no kite control whatsoever. And him not IMMEDIATELY getting up after the kite crashed and doing SOMETHING shows a ton of inexperience and bad judgment. I mean..he just laid there giving a thumbs up and rambling on meanwhile the kite's at the edge of the window showing signs of getting ready to powerup. Pull a line in and flag the kite out or do SOMEthing.. And his dad's the 'engineer trying to figure out how it works'? Who goes out on a new type of kite they've never flown before and doesn't even research how it works beforehand?? I watched all SORTS of videos before I bought the Peter Lynn I owned for a while. I mean, the instructional DVD that covers EVERY aspect of rigging/launching/relaunching/flying/landing a Peter Lynn is on Google Video. If you google 'peter lynn video', the FIRST link is the instructional DVD.

I really feel bad for kiters in his area that use that field because like Flexiblade said, whether he realizes it or not, this guy reflects the kite community and his actions could result in a ban.

Here's another clever fellow ... best bit is at the end. Sorta.

George watch out for that............................. TREE!

rocfighter - 25-4-2011 at 04:13 AM

I was wondewring how long he was going to pull on the lines before he would figure out to walk around the tree. Those frawn spikes could rip the crap out of the kite if he pulled enough.

Seanny - 25-4-2011 at 05:38 AM

Lol, on closer inspection, this kid really is a dope. I understand having to fly on a small field. Been there, done that. But, with a small field with trees and a FAMILY directly down wind, with NO SAFETY, no brains, and a father without any brains either... I mean, WTF was he thinking? Flown an Access 8m for over a year? Well that's a lie. If he had done that then he would have known about this little thing, it's a brand new invention used to detach yourself from a kite and flag it out for a situation strangely familiar to the one in this video? Hmmm, safety release ring a bell? Americans these days :P

Oh. And there's another brand new invention that may come in handy for a dumbass who chooses to fly a Venom in a dumbass fashion with no safety release. It's called a helmet. :o

Of all the places to launch and fly. Right between two trees..

snowspider - 25-4-2011 at 08:53 AM

Its hard not to laugh at noobs , I still feel a tad wet behind the ears myself at times but you can tell this guy has done a fair amount of internet research. He's shown his understanding of preinflation , he clearly demonstrates the auto zenith qualities of the kite, he's almost a master of looping the kite to obtain maximum power and he's tested the theory of vertical obstruction along with a successful recovery. In my early years I actualy failed the tree recovery part of the training. My hats off to the fellow he was able to bag his kite and walk off the beach , a successful session by some standards.

B-Roc - 25-4-2011 at 10:14 AM

What a moron with the Viron. Why would you ever start out in strong winds for the kite size? This is a dangerous sport and people like him don't help in any way. Start small and slow in low winds. Hopefully the kite was heavily damaged from the encounter with the tree and he learned a lesson.

The kid with the PL is a dope too. Lucky he didn't injure the soccer players, the old man or himself. Videos like that on the net really do more damage to the impression of the sport then good.

kiteetik - 26-4-2011 at 06:35 AM

amazing......never ceases to amaze me how with all the safety warnings and failed videos, new morons keep popping up......i suppose there are always going to be a small group in any activity that just dont get it.........

Seanny - 26-4-2011 at 06:56 AM

I like the part when the guy with the Viron gets his kite up and immediately does a 180 and face plants it repeatedly  always gives me a good laugh. And I know that kite isn't cheap. Even as a power kite newb, I would have had to try reasonably hard to fly... "fly"... that badly... come on man, what's going on in that skull of yours...

I feel bad talking about him behind his back, but if I knew the guy or could reach him through a forum or something I'd definitely give him some tips and constructive criticism. I don't think it's in the interest of the friendly kiting mentality to bring anybody down. But seriously. These people need HELP

Drewculous - 26-4-2011 at 07:59 AM

Just bums me out... Soon we'll just be that sport with all the idiots hurting themselves...

Even now when I tell people I fly power kites, its not, ohh like surfing? Or wow is it like a parachute..... No, it's "oh yeah, those videos on youtube/espn of those guys wiping out with kites are awesome, so you're like that guy that hit the building?"

It just pisses me off.... I'm more content to watch someone actually fly their kites, as opposed to crashing them..... Stupid people piss me off in general tho...

well.... on the positive side, you could be THE guy with Hooj balls that does somersaults to his kite when its parked. :)

snowspider - 26-4-2011 at 11:43 AM

:lol:Thanks for the Flashback. The name Enzo Ferrari always makes me laugh now since it was Hoojisized

flexiblade - 26-4-2011 at 09:00 PM

The odd thing is that eventually mister "Hooj Ballz" got an arc, I believe a venom, and posted a video riding an ATB. And in the video he did actually display some good flying skills. Shows that even the hopelessly freaky people can get it together eventually. This is why it is our responsibility to be as cordial as possible to any newcomers we may come in contact with that are having a hard time and help them out. In essence every kiter than can be helped to improve their skills increases the longevity of our ability to continue doing our sport. I believe that is why this site was created in the first place.

shaggs2riches - 26-4-2011 at 09:27 PM

:o That poor Viron. He probably would have done better if he was in a more open location IMO. I never imagined I would see someone holding their kite in the air to pre-fill and then just toss downwind like that. I've had to explain to several people interested in starting, that it is better to get dragged by the kite than anchor yourself down, with ability to load the kite so much, but have no where to dump it. After all isn't getting dragged around part of the idea behind powerkiting. That would be like getting that Ferrari Enzo and taking it on a gravel road so you can learn to drive it.
