Power Kite Forum

Hello

buggybruiser - 4-5-2011 at 11:40 AM

I've been a long time lurker on this website forum. I thought now would be as good as ever to introduce myself. I've started to learn how to fly power kites this year and the last two months i have been enjoying riding around in buggies. WOW! what a blast. Who knew that the wind was so powerful

Welcome! I think you might be one of the few new addicts that come in already hooked and rolling.

Thank you gentlemen. I've been trying to get started. I've had some good luck and i've been pulled out of my buggy. right now i'm using a 4m beamer. I hope I can learn some more so I can go even faster without having to wear a diaper

What kind of kites do you fly? What kind of buggy do you have?

That Beamer will be with you FOREVER. Great kite.

Welcome.

Feel free to ask questions.

Try working on Downloops. Turning the kite down toward the ground rather than up. This creates a Loooong power stroke as you do a rurn. Great for picking up speed or creating needed power.

When cruising with the kite set try applying just a touch of brake. Feel the extra power / speed!

@buggybruiser--you say youve been pulled out of the buggy?? thats called an OBE--welcome to the club!

Sorry, spur of the moment question. What's the difference between a loop and a downloop? Is a downloop just that you maintain the kite's current direction, dive bomb it during the loop, then bring it around and back to it's initial position rather than turning the kite upwards (reversing it's current direction) THEN turning it down for the loop? If that makes sense? E.G., downloop = kite is travelling West, and you loop it counter-clockwise?

I think I've been doing downloops the entire time.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

@Seanny check it out at 00:17 link

Not to pimp a video or anything

Seanny - 4-5-2011 at 06:51 PM

Oh, I see. Yes, that's what I've been doing :) It doesn't make sense to do anything but a downloop to me :P although I'm sure an "up" loop has it's purpose.

WELDNGOD - 4-5-2011 at 07:01 PM

If you are flying FBs ,you need to know both. I find at times I need to do an upturn rather than a downturn, just depends if I need more or less power in the turn.

Seanny - 4-5-2011 at 07:49 PM

Very true. And I'm not sure how much relevance this has, but it's much easier to go upwind on a buggy than an ATB, especially on grass. I assume it's a little bit easier on a sandy beach, but other than that for me it's extremely difficult. I can go at almost 45 degrees into the wind, but past that it just doesn't feel like it's impossible :dunno:
