Redirect ??

highazakite - 7-5-2011 at 01:47 PM

question about redirecting.
say my kite is 3:00 and i carve up to 12:00 to 11:00, jump.... now ive tried both ways back to 3 and over to 9.. and with my small jumps and lower winds all seems to work.
my question would be what way is the safest direction? back the way i came or over the other way?
second question what is the best way to go if say i got more air than i was planing on?
im not trying to sky jumps or anything as fool hardy just some small floats.
so far ive kept everything safe and am trying to gain the right techniques and not gaining bad habits .

When in the air you want the kite over your head so it acts like a canopy on your way down. So if you are travelling from right to left and the kite is at 10:00 you send it to 1 or 2 and as you start to feel the lift you redirect it to twelve. Conversely if travelling left to right with the kite at 2 you send it to 11 or 10 and then redirect to 12 when you feel the lift. If you want to continue on in the origininal direction of travel as you come in for the landing redirect the kite back to 11 or 1 (depending upon the original direction of travel and then drop it lower into the window when you touch down to stay powered up and moving.

I don't kite loop so I can't give you advice on that when in the air.

the forward momentum or slowing speed helps with that choice ...

hands at the center of the bar, keeping it in and stable (one handed or 2 handed) allow s the float to peak. getting this reflex down just takes practice and time. kite position really needs to be know at the bar level.

if you have a lot forward speed , you send the kite , jump and give SAME direction you are back to where you were before you started(kite position)

using the momentun or lack of, really directs you.

unless you want on full on back loop at speed, these are fun solid sky jack action, which i usually take it to transition and go the other way(new direction).

speed control! going into it and kite placement, these factors give the parameters to which you have to recover from and land.

a lot of speed ...go up and keep going in the same direction is a good start with solid balance and control. kite high and keep it up and headed in the right direction, if you don't you'll out run it and land on your back ... as soon as you feeel the apex, GIVE direction! if you give alot and hard, the action result will be the same. gotta feel the bar feed back, it should be teling you exactly where the kite is and how much float is left.

once you feel the apex of the jump , you should have already decided by LOOKING where you want to land, and thats the same moment you give bar direction.

the LOOKING part , is kinda already decided becuse of your speed or desired aerial element. "slowing a bit" , go up, looking in the NEW direction ,giving redirect to that direction. trans generally need quick and hard direction (depending on height).

your head turning is the "signal" and hands should be doing the same.

your moving speed generally helps, alot speed =always choose forward for redirect.

with less speed and up wind , your ready for either.

with hard redirects always be ready to land DOWN WIND ( to heel side or toeside)

good luck

thanks for for solid advise B roc and Phree.. been having some fun..
cant wait for it to get a lil warmer.. im not sure im to the point of knowing how much float i have left seems to end before im ready.. and i come down to fast... still feel worried as i go up and some panic clouds the reaction i guess..
well ill get back after the next run..
