Wildwood this weekend?

Todd - 11-5-2011 at 09:00 AM

Low tide at noon and SE baby! Who's ready to rock for one last ride before we get shut down for the summer?

bobalooie57 - 11-5-2011 at 09:03 AM

 JEALOUS

rando - 11-5-2011 at 10:34 AM

Todd what day is that forecast for?

chudalicious - 11-5-2011 at 10:39 AM

Im with you Bob... Jealous as HELL

ragden - 11-5-2011 at 10:39 AM

I'd love to go... but mother-in-law is still in town (they wanted to do some sight-seeing in DC this weekend), and the doctor told me not to kite for 3-weeks... this weekend will be the end of week 1...
:(

joecat - 11-5-2011 at 10:49 AM

Todd was saying that Saturday was supposed to be South-East winds,,,directly onshore,,,,epic,,,,and winds from 15 to 21 mph.....can't get much better than that....Low tide around noon so you would have riding time from about 9am to 3pm. I don't think the beaches will be too crowded this weekend at all. There will most likely be some people around but they wouldn't be there to go into the water.... I may have to work this weekend so I would not make it but I get can get there anytime just not with good friends/riders.....oh well.

labrat - 11-5-2011 at 10:52 AM

Hmmm. Guess this adds checking tides before agreeing to help out the in-laws upstate. Rats.

Two questions for future planning:
Do you guys stay at the same place?
Which month in the fall gives you the first real shot at making the trip? I cannot/shouldn’t/most likely will not make WWBB Fall 2011, but I am going to try to make at least one trip with the boy.

Days Inn is open year-round and is located accross from the Convention Center. Just remember that kiting is prohibited from Memorial Day until Labor Day

I'll be watching the weather for any last minute changes to my plans. The overall plan is to leave Friday night, ride all day Saturday and Sunday with hopes of getting in a photo shoot somewhere in between sessions.

cheezycheese - 11-5-2011 at 11:16 AM

I believe the beach is ridable right after Labor Day... :Ange09:

Kober - 11-5-2011 at 11:21 AM

I will try to get there on Sunday if nothing come up at work ......

Do you know any good spots after beaches are close ...... ( in NJ )

labrat - 11-5-2011 at 11:23 AM

Thank you both, that helps.

I just wasn't sure how long the beach remains too full to ride on the tail end of summer. Just like the weather, no guarantees I'm sure.

Todd - 11-5-2011 at 11:52 AM

@ Labrat, no problem brother
@ Kober, U2U with my number and you need to hook up with Jamz. He along with Rando hook up on a local beach and could give you better details

flyguy0101 - 11-5-2011 at 12:13 PM

@labrat- to early to set a time yet but i now that i am thinking of heading to WW, maybe last weekend of sept or first weekend of october with my son maybe we can coordinate something as it gets closer. i know cheesey wanted to do that as well with his son. right now focusing on JIBE next week:wee::wee:
Scott

ragden - 11-5-2011 at 12:24 PM

Might need Joecat to confirm, but I'm pretty sure the beach is off limits to wind-powered vehicles from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Outside of those dates, just dodge the crowd... ;)

Todd - 11-5-2011 at 12:35 PM

That is correct, mentioned that in my reply to Labrat. I think Crisi took a picture of the sign also... *off to search*

cheezycheese - 11-5-2011 at 12:36 PM

the sign actually said - no kite flying... :dunno:

Todd - 11-5-2011 at 12:43 PM

chudalicious took the picture... AND we are actually legal because I am not flying a kit

cheezycheese - 11-5-2011 at 01:07 PM

Jaymz - 11-5-2011 at 03:10 PM

cheezycheese - 11-5-2011 at 05:50 PM

Boy just say the word WILDWOOD and we all come outta the cracks !!!

arkay - 11-5-2011 at 06:07 PM

change the ordinance number too ;) Man all this talk of wildwood, I miss the place of my wellspent youth weekends. Next time I'm back in the area visiting family, I need to hop over the bridge and hunt you guys down!:Ange09:

mikhail - 11-5-2011 at 06:28 PM

I was in Wildwood last Saturday and it was crowded (family with small children and couples). I felt unsafely to kite there.

Kober - 11-5-2011 at 07:50 PM

Todd...

Willing to help with photo shoot if needed ...... I think I choose wrong job for my self .... Film and photo makes me way more excited then construction .......

And you are actually pretty good at it too...

Todd - 12-5-2011 at 03:53 AM

That would be great Konrad, thank you! Yes Cheesy I do enjoy his videos! Winds for Saturday looks to be on-shore all day... just say 'in for all of those thinking about it :saint:

joecat - 12-5-2011 at 08:44 AM

That is right,,,,,from Todd,,,,,nobody is flying a "kit" Soooooo to the beach it is! ok, so maybe that excuse would not cut it. But seriously, I fly kites down there all summer.....the deal is, there are no real regulations regarding the buggys and such, the only regulation is on "kites". They had no idea and still very little idea about power kiting and the wind powered vehicles. There have been no incidents to this date, knock on wood, where someone has been injured. So technically everything we do is powered by a kite however that oridance is not really enforced, So we have to use common sense, we know not to go near anyone, crowds whatever on the beach. What I would do in the middle of the summer would be to go to the area of the beach between the street and the area where the people congragate....now, the people are near the hard packed sand close to the water so as far as riding its no good when people are there. But if the tides right, you can go down early in the morning or late at night, meaning around 6 or 7pm when the beachs are pretty clear of people. I really cant say how crowded the beach will be this weekend, and the low tide is scheduled for around noon which means that time of day is when the people are going to be around.....blaaa bllaaa bllaaaa,,,, The water is still cold as hell so I dont think there would be a huge crowd there.

Todd - 12-5-2011 at 09:10 AM

I'm hoping everyone is saving up for coming down the holiday weekend so fewer crowds, that and it might be too windy for a stroll down the beach. NOT ME THOUGH!

lad - 12-5-2011 at 09:55 AM

The weekend is a def. maybe for me!

Todd - 12-5-2011 at 10:27 AM

Yay Lad! It's been awhile.

Todd - 12-5-2011 at 11:47 AM

WOW :shocked2: Only 2 rooms left at the Shalimar Resort (Moose lodge or the Elks are in town)

rocfighter - 12-5-2011 at 12:49 PM

Man wish we could make it down. Working all weekend. But next weekend we are flying up here:wee:

shehatesmyhobbies - 12-5-2011 at 01:57 PM

Kids are in a parade this weekend! You know I can't miss that! Will be wishing I was there for sure! Would like to get the cobwebs out of a few of my kites! May do that static anyway!

lad - 12-5-2011 at 03:01 PM

I'm keeping an eye on the rain forecasts there....FRIDAY looks better!

Todd - 13-5-2011 at 03:48 AM

10% chance of rain all day tomorrow with winds blowing onshore in the teens... looks like an excellent day to stretch the legs on the brand new 18m Phantom. I'll be at the pier right around 9-ish and be sure to bring change because most likely the meters are up.

When I was there, I asked. The event was a whirlwind so my memory may not be exact.

But, the cop I talked to (Wildwood Crest) said they only enforce the meters between the holidays. Wildwood's meters were marked with dates. Should be enforced now as I recall. I never looked at North WW. I don't know where the pier falls.

Don't take my word for it, but a quick question could save you $ and the distraction. Three towns, each with their own rules. Fun.

I asked the locals and they have NO idea what is going on :puzzled:.

ragden - 13-5-2011 at 04:32 AM

If yer staying at the hotel, leave your vehicle there. If you arent, then try to find parking elsewhere that doesnt have a meter...?

Todd - 13-5-2011 at 05:07 AM

The problem that I have Michael is that I won't be able to lift the Ivanpah to take down the walk way, too wide and won't fit. I have to call Joe today anyways so he'll know for sure. If I pay I pay, no biggie.

Drive over to the peer, walk in it down, then come back up and move your car over to the hotel? Or have someone else walk it down while you drive the car back... Lots of options that dont involve leaving your car at a meter...
;)

Chad - 13-5-2011 at 06:22 AM

Todd if i am not mistaken that Ivanpah just fits through the walkway at the shalamar? I have the same issue with mine but when I have the barros on it just fits. I know you have the bigger wheels but you also have a shorter axle then I do and that is the compensation that I am referring to?
But I could be wrong
Just trying to remember Cory and I walking togather to the beach. i dont remember him having to pick it up?

joecat - 13-5-2011 at 06:48 AM

Yes,,,I forgot about that.....the "fur bearing mammals" are in town.... i dont think they are big beach goers though...

joecat - 13-5-2011 at 06:53 AM

Hey guys, I just made a call to the wildwood crest police,,,,asked about the parking meters......they told me they go into effect May 13th, that would be today! Friday,,,, so better safe than sorry.

Very good sir, Thank you for checking. I knew the discrepancy did not pass the sniff test yet (note tentative post), but I was hopeful that someone would indeed verify this was true. Rats.

Just wish they would post these details on all meters. Personally, I will be checking before every trip just because things can always change.

Regardless, pay for the convenience or make the relatively short walk. Just, wish I could make it. (3 hour drive tonight after work in the wrong direction)

Hope the weather is cooperative.
Enjoy the ride and the weekend folks.

cheezycheese - 13-5-2011 at 04:39 PM

So is any one coming...?

Todd - 13-5-2011 at 06:26 PM

Already here

cheezycheese - 14-5-2011 at 02:27 AM

On my way...!!!

lad - 14-5-2011 at 04:07 AM

cheezycheese - 14-5-2011 at 08:24 AM

No rain yet... Bring big kites...!!!

Jaymz - 14-5-2011 at 10:10 AM

Da wife is working today and I'm home with a sick kid. Will keep an eye on the weather and hopefully be down tomorrow around 10am if it looks dry. Kober may also come down. Winds look good with low tide at noon. Hope the wind picks up for you guys today. Have fun.

Todd - 14-5-2011 at 03:39 PM

Wow, I'm spent... All day Phanny affair. Filled 3 16g cards full of footage and had some oversized poodle on steroids try to eat me. More tomorrow... BBQ starting settle in, good night.

rocfighter - 14-5-2011 at 04:58 PM

So I assume you have over come your Spring Buggy issue. This is a very good thing. I'm glad you had a good time. Can't wait to see some video.

shehatesmyhobbies - 14-5-2011 at 05:33 PM
