Most of my reporting will be of the second hand variety, as many of you know I spent two weeks in the Las Vegas Hospital, or as the taxi cab driver
said on my way to Corey's shop, the most expensive suite in Las Vegas.
First off, I'd like to thank anyone that I did not thank personally for any help or well wishes they sent out. It was pretty scary, I'll admit, but
both the doctors there, and my team here in Gainesville say that there is a 90% chance that I'm now cured. For those who heard peripherally, here's
what happened. I've had an arrhythmia problem for some years now, never diagnosed properly. It has reared it's head at past events, but this time I
had to be hospitalized and was told I was minutes from death. After several attempts I had a successful procedure that ablated my heart into a normal
rhythm. I'm home now, and just about to full strength as, for some reason or another, I just didn't feel all that hot after. Go figure.
I'm headed to J.I.B.E. (Jekyll Island Buggy Expo) this week to get some much needed seat time, as I only buggied at our event for a few hours. If you
are on the east coast I strongly advise you to find out about JIBE and attend, Angus Campbell runs the event, and it is a fine gathering of good
folks. It's where I met B. Muse. http://www.coastalwindsports.com/JIBE2011.html
So, where are we at? The 2011 event was wildly successful. The bills were paid, and we came out slightly ahead. Please take the time to fill out a
survey(http://www.nabx.net/members/post-event-survey.html), and thanks to the folks who have already done so, we read these, make notes of them and do
our best to address your concerns. This also leads to the question of questions. Have one? Ask us. Why do we do things a certain way, unlike many
other events? This might help.
Our mission statement. NABX must be fun. We honor all kiting. Repeat.

Onward for some announcements. Here's from our official Videographer, Lenka:
Hi,
the NABX TV is currently collecting material for a NABX TV DVD 2011. The purpose of the DVD production is to strengthen the NABX kiting community
through sharing videos and photos of NABX with one another.
This is a non-commercial release with emphasis on representing the diversity of the NABX community and the experience on the NABX lakebed.
The disc will be available for purchase online in August 2011 and at NABX 2012.
The finances from sales will be used to cover the production costs and support the NABX TV initiative.
Call for content submission is open to everyone in the NABX and kiting community, with a deadline JUNE 6, 2012.
We are looking for short videos and slideshow with duration up to 4 min in Quick Time (.mov) formats or as photo files.
Contact Lenka Chludova at whatisfeedback@gmail.com for details of submission, release agreements and all other NABX TV inquiries.
Much love
Lenka
Please support this effort so that we might make more, and more better videos in the future!
Missing Kites
Sensei Class Racing
Hey Gang!
As most of you know, we tried something this year that is very old to competitive sailing, but somehow new to buggying...class racing!! We organized a
race where everyone was required to fly the exact same kite. We gave it two solid days of waiting for conditions, but, unfortunately they just didn't
line up and we were forced to move on to the open class competitive racing on Saturday. I did, however, received a lot of positive feed back from this
and we certainly plan to do it again next year in some form or another!!
Since this was the first year for class racing, I provided the kites. We lent out ten 3m Sensei Trainer kites. By the end of the event, I had only
collected back seven of them. We tried hard to keep track of everyone that checked out a kite...but they had switched hands so many times we just went
on the honor system.
So, if by chance, you or someone you know borrowed one and it got buried under your pile of gear and made it home with you, please let me know and I
will get you a shipping address to send it to. Or, if you loved it so much that you want to keep it, we can make arrangements for that as well through
WindPowerSports.
Thanks all for your help with this!!

Food
We are canceling the breakfast and lunch program. We did not have enough positive response from this program and many took advantage of it(many did
not! for sure, but the numbers did not add up)while it taxed our crew to a great extent. We are willing to look into a very basic lunch program, but
will need a volunteer co-ordinator to make that happen, as we are not going to allow Dog to work any harder than he already works.
Fee Increase
or, You work hard for your money. We work hard for it too!
From the beginning we have worked hard to keep our costs down. We started with a five year plan, to make the best kiting event that the world has
ever known. We know we are not there yet, but we are on our way. We've done this at our own personal expense and the expense of our very generous
volunteers and angel supporters. We knew we had to prove to you all that we were worthy of the task, and believe that we have earned your trust to
provide you with a most amazing event that continues to grow, bring in new faces, new events, and never becomes boring, or overtly commercial.
Many of you know how we pull this off, though many do not. The amount of time spent putting the event together is high. There is no financial
compensation, and may not be for some time. That's okay for now, but what is not okay is to continue taxing our volunteers, many who pay their own
way to come and work for you. We borrow equipment, man-power, and money each year to make the event happen. In our drive to become independent we
are going to raise the event fee. We have not settled on the amount, though most likely it will be right at $100.
We hope that you agree that NABX gives you far more bang for the buck than that in return for your attendance and will continue to support our efforts
to improve the event.
2012
Next year plans our already underway, and I will be reporting on that through out the year, but understand, it will be our 10th anniversary, and it
will also be our sponsor Flexifoils 40th! To put it bluntly, we are going to really go all out next year in all respects. We are rounding up as
many originators form the past, so please help us spread the word, if you were or know anyone that was with us at the beginning of this amazing
journey of kite traction that brought us out to the dry lakes in the first place, we want you to attend. We want to bring back everyone, and I mean
everyone, who ever had anything to do with this great event. Spread the word.

Well, it's people like you that make it happen. Maybe folks don't realize the personal sacrifice that you make Ricardo, but not only do you sponsor,
you're also very overworked wife volunteers tirelessly to make our event so much better.
You also brought the Dutch!
Just sayin'
