'07 Door 64 vs '09 Flydoor M

Dear PKF,

I was too embarrassed to post this here because I know you all think I'm already a gear #@%$#! but the local forum (FULL of Spleene and Flyboard riders) is so inactive unless the wind is screaming that I had to come to where I KNOW info will be had.

See, thing is.....I snapped up a Door64 just before my trip. Rode a FunTech Door 160 in the Keys and got on quite well with it. Talked to the shop owner about the new to me Door I'm coming home to and received....not caution, but kinda FYI words that the Door would be a bit heavier in the water until it was up on plane and had shed the water off the board than the current model year so not to expect the same board as the FunTech Door - but a good board nonetheless. Well, fast forward to....er.....well....lunchtime today and you'll learn I hit the 'go' button on a Flydoor M (155). It was too good of a deal to pass up.

Wifey might have an issue here

I know I now have to choose and offload one or the other for cost or loss but couldn't find the right info in time and had to jump on it before the chance was gone. Any immediate thought other than ride and see? I could save a few of my hard earned brownie points if the #2 rank was sold by the time the boards arrive......

Tell her you bought it on behalf of me

Ride and see, yes  what year Flydoor? I love mine, it's awesome. Thanks ripsession all over again :D Come to that, what year is the other one?

Derp is in the title ... later boards are probably better made with a wood core which is nice and strong. Ask me how I know

Oops to slow this time.

Kami has a 2010 Door and a 2011 Radical

Van has a 2011 Spleene Door, nice carbon

Dylan has a 2010 HT Door I believe.

I use only a 2009 Radical in small.

Every year the boards change shape a little and they shave off a bit more weight.

Are you wanting to offload the Door 64 or the Flydoor M?

macboy - 18-5-2011 at 01:12 PM

I was hoping this thread might help me decide but it sounds like I'm gonna have to ride and see. Probably the smartest plan anyway but not one that comes with an easy "brownie points saver"

nfleech rode a 164 Door last week and said it wasnt too bad....................he's about your size. The only issue with the Door can be chop. The flex tips help but make sure you apply rear heel pressure and youll be fine.................In January I rode my 13m Ovando/159 Door out thru some high surf and down the line on the way back in with no issues...............awesome boards...............

Haven't ridden the 'radical yet though  so can't comment.

That 07 Spleene is the one I broke with the smallest of bobbles off a wave onto flat water, one-footed landing ... foam core only :( or it may have been borked before I got it but the results are the same. And now I'm paranoid when I'm out on the Rip Plus.

The 09 Flydoor M should be wood cored so it'll be bulletproof ... of all the boards I've used, it's the best by a long shot!
