Safe trading?

I might be trading a kite or two here with a guy in the US but not sure how to go about it without feeling like I'm sending kites away for free. Any advice? He's been a forum member at FZone for a few years......

There's the "good trader" thread, you can check there for feedback. Typically, though, I normally ask for payment first before shipping the goods. I've never had a problem with anyone here on the forums. Everyone's been great to do business with.

It's really a crap shoot for either private or retail sale. Insure the shipment and ask for signature at the receiving end at least. Don't ship to PO Box or forwarding service.

Had a couple of juicy orders from Florida earlier this year. As is usually the case for cross border orders, I google the address to see where it leads me. Both orders, to different buyers at the same address. The search took me to a forwarding service at this address with many posted complaints of product vanishing once inside.

Here's a thought. Maybe you could find an agreeable PKF'er in the same town/city to act a intermediary.

Good call Vince. I'll find out where he is. I suspect by default this would grant the same feeling of "security" to him. That'd be nice. If there were money changing hands I'd feel fine about it but it's kite for kite in this case.

Israel. Prob nobody from here over there hey?

I sent him my # and he called. We chatted, seems all good. Speed 2 12m good flying condition, maybe needing some bridle repair and tuning. In exchange for my Rages which sit in the closet. Seem like a fair deal? I've got the 5.5 Reactor now so don't really need the Rages anymore.

Not that I need any more 12/13m kites either but hey, the wife only sees numbers and this means one less in the closet so the LEI will slide in unnoticed.

Until she reads this post

A Speed 2 is an LEI??????
Are you sure about what you're getting?

I remember 3 guys from Israel that come to NABX every year, might check out the NABX website and see if you can find them. I think they pop up here from time to time.

@Scud :lol: :lol:

No I mean two Rages exit and a Speed and then an LEI enter. The other kite drama currently unfolding in my life is the search for an LEI.

.......there. Glad I caught that before you tried to sell me your Sami as a Paraglider

markite - 1-6-2011 at 01:00 PM

that's what I was going to suggest Ofer and several others come from Israel - located in Haifa. They have email links on the NABX attendees list.

Ofir? That's him. Thanks Mark!

He gave me little reason to worry at all (none) but you know....still kinda worry a bit. Knowing he's a bit closer to "Family" helps. I'll go check the email and see if he's the same dude.

macboy - 1-6-2011 at 01:10 PM

....might not be the same but still. I'll message them and see if any of them would like to middle man the transaction for us.

macboy - 1-6-2011 at 11:48 PM

Well, the Rages are packed up and I have a shipping receipt in my inbox for a 12m Speed 2. I'm excited, nervous and sad all at the same time. I really did love the Rages but man...they just didn't get out of the bags enough....it's all depower all the time here.

They say you never forget your first

Incidentally the guy was fantastic to work with/through and a great first experience with super-international-dealings. I'll have to try to woo him to the PKF from that other place now that he's turning his focus to the buggies.

All that's left is to wait and see what customs has in store for me.

I have been stung with taxes when trading.

Have the person clearly mark it as a traded item .

Have a local/ trusted kite dealer broker the deal. Peace of mind is worth paying for.
