looking for aluminum/carbon wheelset 8"

PHREERIDER - 14-6-2011 at 12:40 PM

The ABS plastic seems to be soften around the bearing race. not sure if it heat build and or lube. i have been daily on the silicone spray since winter.

The hub centers ALL are loose and blows out the shim crap quick. old crossairs, new crossairs and of course the bearing locks up it melts quick.

SO rockstars or tarantulas. any in stock ? not sure the $ looks about $25-30/wheel as on powerkiteshop in UK.

not a regular listed item it seems, GI is 404, and have not called yet but, thought i'd check the shops through here to stir things into action.

Just a thought, but do you think hard landings could be pounding it outward ?

Try some TRAMPA SUPERSTARS , they are hybrids!

Might have better luck with Krytech than silicone.

If you need Terraintulas, you might have better luck with contacting GI directly at their new number: 864 979 3819. Number of dealers actively stocking GI parts seems to be on the decline.

Rockstar Pros are a smidge less than Terraintulas, but unless you need them yesterday, ordering direct is going to be your best hookup. The other reason for ordering direct is that the latest iteration of Rockstar Pros have replaced some plastic with metal. If you are ordering from a dealer, make sure of what version you are getting.

The wear on the hub centers sounds like you might be better off with bearings that you can fully break down and maintain on a regular basis rather than waiting for them to lock up.

Another option is the CrossAirs that Dino currently has on clearance, CrossAir Hubs, Tubes, Bears, MAKs.... $65 for each set of 4.... screaming deal.... only 3 sets left.

The constant landing could be an issue but 1500 hours a year (more?) might not even register on the life cycle plans of board equipment.

PHREERIDER - 14-6-2011 at 01:35 PM

dino got the deal!

WG not the landings, sustained heat! softens the ABS then they distort slowly with pressure, i assume

iWOLF lock ups are rare, but immediate melt down. the silicone seems to keep things moving well but instant caastrophic failure is their exit. when i used WD40 they slopped out and could easily be caught BEFORE failure.

not sure the if its heat/pressure/lube , 2-4miles runs at about 20mph with rinse and repeat for 2-3 hours just adds up. but it ALL , except vegas they didnot make it this far.

thanks for the info guys, just every thing i have is getting weak on the bearing grip.

sounds like you have no grease left in the bearings, heat is a sign of friction . A good bearing shouldn't have a "heat" problem. Getting some stainless bearings would prevent the corrosion that is killing their efficiency. Or get some "superstars"! LOL , ya know how partial I am!:wee::lol:

the 13m tube in 20 gets them even hotter! the windsurfer guy that i ride with daily is amazed i can keep wheels on it at all. i do admit board eats the contact goods... bearing, tires and now the stuff in between .

i did recently(by necessity) rotate into some old earth board tires , these are hard! not like the newer softer compounds. may have made a small problem more evident with that contact variable change.

i know the grease pack drill with marine i'm sure will help. i think beveled race to reduce side sheer force with roller not ball is ideal. if i get ALLOy hubs, aleast, i may search out beveled rollers in SS ... nothing pheels like custom OR COST!

i'll get it wired. nice trampa!

WELDNGOD - 14-6-2011 at 02:04 PM

I got polished alloy stars on my trampa, then I saw the BLUE ones! I WANT!!! I will have to order me some for sure ,cause they are sweet lookin'. And deffo on the "marine" grease,it is a must. I repack mine often, due to "tidal encounters" LOL:wee:

PHREERIDER - 14-6-2011 at 02:44 PM

everytime wash with fresh and lube, the lateral sustained pressure, i know is a certainty, heat maybe some. but the melt pretty easily when one drops. either way alloy hubs are next , but in the meantime fresh anything will do.

I have a couple sets of Terrainantualas in stock if you are still looking. I think I have a green set, a red set and a black set.

Sorry Kent.... checked the AWOC site, before I posted.... just didn't see them. Might be time to check the lens prescription. :sniff:
