Prism tensor 4.2 or HQ scout 4m

Mgaisbacher - 20-6-2011 at 08:38 PM

I have a airush 3m trainer and want something bigger. I had a Beamer tsr 5m and sold it, a stupid decision. Now I'm looking for a better kite. Where I live the winds are usually calm (4-9mph if that) but I am moving to Cleveland and plan on being able to fly near lake Erie which I would imagine has more wind, and I'm eventually moving to Boston ( at least plan to) and then I will be able to fly it close to the ocean. I'm not looking to get really serious because I know if I was I would need multiple kites. So if I was to buy one what would be ur suggestion and if there are any in the price range or cheaper then the prism or HQ I'm up to suggestions. Also I may try to use it to mountain board but it's more of just for fun.

I would suggest the HQ Scout over the Tensor because the Scout will produce better power towards the edge of the window where you will need it most on a board or buggy.

The Tensor is a great kite and comes with a bar that can be converted over to Handles....a very nice feature, plus it is a very good looking kite to fly....but the Scout will outperform it where it is needed.

Another kite to consider is the Peter Lynn Twister II (Or Twister IIR). The Twister with a control bar would be similar in price to the Scout.

We also have some Crossfire II's on closeout at a great deal. The Crossfire is a more advanced kite but will work excellent on a board with the power settings.

Hope this helps.

I suppose you have to have a bar? Many people believe they "need" a bar to be able to harness in, but you can harness in with handles also. Just in case you did not realize this. Plus if you are going to use it just for fun like you say handles will be much more fun.

Also you say you are looking for a better kite. Did you mean better than the beamer? I am confused on that. And if so what do you want to be better?

Let us know and we can help you out

I mean better then the airush, I wish I wouldn't have sold the Beamer because then I wouldn't have this problem. I would like a bar just because that is what I am use to but i could try handles.

Also would the scout work well in low winds , also I found a 5m scout (1 not 2) on eBay for $230 ( at the moment) should I try to get that or would it be better to just buy a new kite. The kite on eBay is advertised to only be flown once.

Hi M, welcome to the forum, and the madness! If you are looking on e-bay, you might do better to just look at the for sale section here. Many good used kites to be found here, but sorry, none of mine are for sale. lol

Ok I found a ok deal on a tensor , someone is selling one for $310 only flown once , is it worth it to spend the extra $ on the scout or would the tensor be good enough ?

Tensor is a great kite

I am ordering a tensor now from awindofchange, the reasoning I choose the tensor is
1) I may never use it with a board, I plan to but I dont know if it will ever happen.
2) I have never flown a kite with handles so I feel this will give me more to work with and maybe be a little bit more fun.
3) I have seen people on the forums say that the scout is hard to keep flying in low winds beacuse of the added cross over which for me I the easier is it to fly in low winds the better.
4) The tensor is $30 cheaper and I really didnt even plan on spending this much on a kite

so i feel i made the right choice, beacuse all i wanted was something bigger and better then my airush 3m trainer then I have now and maybe down the road if i really get into it ill buy a kite more suited for landboarding.
