Just flipping through the pages and noticed that you haven't had on up in a while. I'm getting much better every time I head out and your stories seem
to really bring the stoke.PHREERIDER - 29-6-2011 at 05:47 AM
COOL! its daily shaggs!(i kinda like the way that sounds)that keeps the stoke!
i have been daily since about March! lost count !
nearing 20 days straight on the water. heres yesterday
when the tides are good, i score land & water rides til sunset , water for the last 2 weeks or so. we have had premium wind with ideal side
on and small wave <6ft.
heres the stoke part ...i'm first out and do 4-5mile run out and up the beach, checking all the locals (and the transient crowds) and soon as i can
see into the port royal sound i turn back. the return leg with 20 + skyjack kite loop airs. i have had TWO depower mains break the casings in the
past month!
oh the mackerel, i was hit by a flying mackerel. i see them all the time and wondered why i never got hit? well it happened , felt like a big wet
towel smack in the shoulder.
and i got bite by a dog last tuesday while on the atb . got pics !
had a neck injury back in the winter so i have been more cautious esp. with rotations.
BUT last week finally went pain free, even with regular sessions, probably would have been quicker recovery if i just TRULY rested...but that didn't
happen. nearly 5months! best therapy was wearing my helmet with a small lead weight on top.
and yesterday blew out ! the back roll trans with like 20 fails! i landed some magically nice ones, some with loops, some with out , totally stoked
the neck is solid for more.
pics/VID from NABX and JIBE kinda got pushed back despite ample time. and so much hottub time, i can only do so much
thanks for the interest. gonna get with the pics and stuff soon !shaggs2riches - 29-6-2011 at 07:20 PM
:shocked2: That's a whole lot of kite time right there. I've been happy to be getting 1-2 sessions a week, but the summer no winds are here its been
almost two weeks now. Sucks to here about your injuries though, one reason why I've been trying hard to stretch a few times a day. May not help in a
huge bail, but maybe in the twisting and pulling section. That Mackerel must have been a huge shock man!!! Keep up the riding look forward to seeing
those pics.PHREERIDER - 30-6-2011 at 07:38 AM
on the pics! found an old video from last fall on my wifes mac, see if i can do a quick clip on that.
keep it rollin' shaggSPHREERIDER - 5-7-2011 at 07:54 AM
another round(4) of evening rides of land and water
yesterday , best since about tuesday or wednesday about 4hours most on the water,
best trick of the day... on the land board back roll trans. with a back kite loop, had to work up to that! did like 20 regular back roll trans. in
row and on the pass the wind had dropped a fraction and filled it with the extra juice! and some unhooked wave on TT, raileys ! to blind is gonna
need some flat water, the chop was killing me !
pheeling worthy now! GI tarantulas going into the grind! thanks AWOC(Kent) , thanks DINOshaggs2riches - 5-7-2011 at 11:39 PM
Damn that sounded tiring just reading that. I'm just feeling good hopping to toeside to pull off a clean transition. That only seems to happen when
riding to my right transition to the left. If I try to hop toeside while riding to the left (my regular stance) I either freeze up and don't do it or
I completely screw it up ending on my back. But I'm committed to work up to aerial tricks if it takes me ten years to get there:bigok:PHREERIDER - 6-7-2011 at 05:38 AM
practice improves symmetry, go slower, BALANCE and control . too fast and reflexes won't allow it , a few too many twisted pullovers and slams
you'll realize speed doesn't help.
slower reinforces balance, once at speed with the same move you'll be relaxed and with timing, and control will be there and so will the kite!
i really have to force myself to practice both ways, esp weak side toeside stuff as well. and moving through aerials/or whatever adding more and
more power takes time. i'm an old stiff guy and sometimes it takes me a while to warm up, including the body and the mind. first hour of action
rarely contains the same stuff the last hour is filled with. its funny how my wife will come out with the camera for the first thirty minutes
becomes bored, leaves and gets a bunch of nothing shots...and 3hours later couple miles down the beach doing the circus show for a bunch strangers.
always warm up and always try new junk.... in the daily grind.
got about 10 hours on the tarantulas, the bearing race shims (plastics inserts) not doing so well. tabs on the inserts need to be fraction larger.
minor and easily remedied. very happy with them.
really a bonus july better than last year.
flying tarantulas! oh the wife shows up wife the camera.
yes it continues...
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 08:55 AM
here's low portside backroll, mostly in light air i do with a loop. this was tuesday i think.
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:01 AM
this is actually my MAC practice session with the wifes mac, so more pics will be following.
she likes the hand pivot ones, ( she thinks i'm break dancing ) my shoulders don't if its weak!
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:06 AM
into some JIBE pics , here's the HQ Matrix 15M giving nice trans. air float.
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:08 AM

PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:11 AM
love this, JIBE . beautiful
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:14 AM
JIBE , came form the south end up to to camp at black beards in light air , V13 pulled that session
PHREERIDER - 23-7-2011 at 09:19 AM
nate GRABBING the RIGHT board!
shaggs2riches - 24-7-2011 at 03:05 AM
Those are some wicked pictures. On Vancouver Island for a week, brought the ATB and Managed to sneak the 6m access without getting into trouble with
the missus. I'm really crossing my fingers that I can get some riding on a real packed sand beach before I leave. The road outside the mother-in-laws
is really really long and at a relative slope all pavement. I went for some nice rides in the evening. Not real fast, but super smooth and probably
3-4 minutes a run. No traffic, so I got some sweet carving. Have the PSI at 35ish right now, gonna up it closer to 50 and see how that feels. There's
a ton of gravel logging roads around, but the grade and big potholes scare the hell out of me. :bigok: I was hoping I could get a water lesson down at
lake Nitinat, but this trip was so unexpected, I won't get the chance to.PHREERIDER - 24-7-2011 at 07:32 AM
nice shaggs , more time on the board thats great. find a spot and wear it out!
pothole ...hop/jump!acampbell - 24-7-2011 at 11:15 AM
Great pics Chad; keep 'em coming.PHREERIDER - 24-7-2011 at 11:24 AM
and for those interested, heres a video .
most of the session was out of frame , but was a beautiful day , i think its fall/winter session may have started in the rain and jump on the
breeze that moved the system. trimmed it down from what was for the most part Just the view with me occasionally going by as you see.
the kite is a 13m ExA starkites, c- hybrid. on 140 sprint SK older series
i'm sure i logged this session some time ago and did not search the data for it but looks 15+MPH.
thanks Angus , going for the multiple anyday now.labrat - 24-7-2011 at 12:51 PM
Thanks Phree,
I’m glad you got the footage you posted. I like to see the rider and the kite at the same time. I glean more that way.
Were you flying with webbed gloves on? Just looked that way to me.PHREERIDER - 24-7-2011 at 05:21 PM
no just regular sailing gloves, ronstan short fingerPHREERIDER - 25-7-2011 at 06:53 AM
tuesday was a little better went with the fresh VII 13/ATB 5-7pm
wednesday was decent breeze but marginal for the water but perfect for SK ExA 13m on the ATB . water runs were out n back just enough to wash off
without position loss. BUT the ATB was blasting real nice!
thursday whitecaps and falling tide made for ramp city! 4-6PM
best of the show... pulled off TWO backside 720's both on the port runs. first one caught me by surprise , second was full juice ! felt like
more!. couple of fails, mouth full of ocean later and a flash thunderstorm closed me out.
and finally edited some NABX '11 footage. last of the Sony sport play video ( which got crushed at NABX) i will put it up this afternoon, and it
has some folks in it, not that much ride stuff but gives the jest of the event, did not catch any of the party stuff just the playa, out n back
kinda neat for getting a feel for it. got some PKF family in there check it when it drops.PHREERIDER - 5-8-2011 at 11:29 AM
3 days of ATB and VII 13m and today get nice run on the water and land combo 4-7pm
Tube kite has been out of comission with needed leak repair and the VII is tuned nicely . very solid unit still needs a knot or more to than my 13m
c-hybrid but very close, really getting back into the arc speed blast to punch the break and quite different from grunty tube chug when its
marginal. great combo session with this unit pulling a very challenging ENE side shore with a falling tide to slack low which is the bonus on the end
without current.
here' a few JIBE shots
this was SAT on the way to camp from the south end fairly light air as i remember 8-10 maybe but it did pick up later in the day

Wow, does that happen alot? With the hours you put in would one of the trampas that let you customize the flex be a benefit to you?PHREERIDER - 18-8-2011 at 05:42 AM
when its a running drop you really don't notice it. but the times theres not enough speed you feel it. a few times a session, more if the wind is
weak or crappy. typically powered no, not alot.
the trampas??...equal opportunity grinding action here BOB, maple lam holding up like bedrock drill! the bionic truck going beyond blown! really
amazed how tuff these things are.
the tarantulas with the plastic shimms inserts ,... garbage...this things did not last 20 hours! spits one out about every session. the ones i
epoxied in are ok , but becoming slack as a crossairs with 500hours on them. SS bearings and ALUMINUM shimms will be better but a muthaphucker to
swop out. very sad link in the wheel set. the AL will get beat up eventually and i may go up a size in the bearing DIA. in the end stage.BeamerBob - 18-8-2011 at 07:46 AM
You need some custom titanium wheels with a larger bearing and axle diameter like maybe the 12mm ones used on PL buggy front axle.
The board companies should let you test (break) their stuff to find the weak spots. But then again, not many other guys are wearing out equipment
like you do. The hours are always impressive. PHREERIDER - 19-8-2011 at 06:12 AM
time and pressure changes everything.
the incidence of my size and use level would send things in the wrong direction.
light and tough for the AVERAGE weight and use, kinda why airline seats are the size they are. i'm good with custom, wouldn't have it any other
way! GI stuff has done well. glad to have itPHREERIDER - 25-8-2011 at 08:22 PM
GO PRO, very tidy unit. smooth as butter thru the Mac.
at the first water break i decided to put on the head cam thing. pheeling GOOFY. after about 20 min it got a little irritating. but easy and no
farting around with framing crap. surprisingly easy. the results??? def gives the "on board" LIVE feel for sure.
It is really fantastic how much you get out. Almost like everyone has a windy season that they can get out a few times a week, and you have that all
year. Really jealous. When I visited the beach at really low tide (2 feet at lowest I think) and walked on the hard packed sand, I so wanted to move
just so I could kite it whenever possible. I'm just getting ready to change my first set of bearings, probably have 60 hours of kiting time, and
another 50 or more of downhill time. You've gone through so many parts in the same time frame.PHREERIDER - 27-8-2011 at 11:14 AM
we all had to take every step for this intersection. glad to share . glad we are on this path together. this is why we are here. the video i
just put up is almost the exact same as one i watched on tube when i had barely 5hours of any kinda of kite experience. the patience, the
commitment, and place to express this experience , to which i am grateful.
keep the stoke my brother!PHREERIDER - 28-8-2011 at 07:22 AM
V II 13m pulling the ride, hit the water then finished on the ATB 5-7pm
feature for today... kiteloop back roll transition on board the ATB. helmet cam Go Pro making it easy. snappy little ride after the water, beach is
a little for tight for super speed runs, this is a side on look ENE 15+. check the link for data on the breeze. a short and sweet vid to bring it
all together. http://vimeo.com/28390968
