Power Kite Forum

Just wondering, what's the average age of members of this forum?

 Pages:  1

Feyd - 30-6-2011 at 07:20 PM

Perhaps a sensitive question. I'm just kinda wondering what age demographic were have here.

I'm 40 (don't feel like it) and I feel like I'm in the shallower end of the age pool here. Wondering what a lot of the ages of others are here.

g00fba11 - 30-6-2011 at 07:26 PM

I tell my kids I am older than dirt when they ask..... but in reality just a young 50....... became addicted at 48........

Feyd - dude there's no way you're 40 - maybe you just feel like it cos of all the nasty noodles you eat ...?

22bene - 1-7-2011 at 12:35 AM

thanson2001ok - 1-7-2011 at 03:53 AM

51. Quit laughing and respect your elders.

Feyd - 1-7-2011 at 04:32 AM

Wow, Flexi may be onto something.:wee:

Kami, there is NO WAY IN HELL that there can be any negative side effects to the noodles. Nothing that tastes so good can be bad for you. That goes for BK Quadstackers as well.

I kinda feel the same way as Shaggs in that I wish I started kiting back in the early '90's. But then again the kites were a lot less forgiving and the safety systems were'nt really great and as a self taught rider my guess is I would have killed myself. :spin: I'll just try to make the best of the next 40 or so years!

Please keep the it comming kids.

bigkahuna - 1-7-2011 at 06:59 AM

Looks like I'm older than everyone else here (so far). Fortunately, I'm younger than most of the guys I kite with, so there's hope for my future. ;)

Seanny - 1-7-2011 at 07:13 AM

17! Do I get a prize?

Adam looks like he's 16 and sounds like he's 14. :D

56... and I just caught this affliction five wks ago.. Previous medical history...Cut the end of my left thumb off 1975, (the skill saw did it) little trouble with the left brakes but I'll figure it out...1986 dislocated right shoulder/broken colar bone(Construction superintendent and I didn't agree, he was bigger)...2001 Compression fractures of two vertebra in lower back (18 ft is not enough time to think about anything ...but "This is gonna hurt" ). 2005 Two plates and 4 screws in right hand (Power roto rooter..I'm a carpenter not a plumber) March 25th 2010 heart attack w bypass surgery, six blockages, fully recovered. Last Monday PL 5.3 Viper, hot launch, several stupid newbie mistakes and 2 fractures in right heel. I ain't giving up. I've had several hobbies in my life time but this one is be far the most addictive. For the newbies out there, read as much as you can, adhear to the safety advice from the people on this forum, Try to find flyers in your local area to fly with and above all RESPECT THE WIND. I was lucky.

Bladerunner - 1-7-2011 at 09:38 AM

A pattern I see devolping around here is that the older riders tend to stick with it year after year. The young folks join in , make us look bad and then get distracted. Girl fever , other sports , lack of locations, or a lack of anybody riding at the next level to push them ?

The water crew are different. They started as an older bunch but I am sure the average age is way down now.

WELDNGOD - 1-7-2011 at 09:52 AM

47 in Sept.

Seanny - 1-7-2011 at 09:55 AM

Nah, I've been doing this for two years now :) Don't plan on giving it up.

bigkid - 1-7-2011 at 10:13 AM

Lets see, I can't remember for sure, but 60 sounds a bit closer than 59. :puzzled:
I know of a couple of older than dirt's, have to wait and see if they remember. :D

indigo_wolf - 1-7-2011 at 10:38 AM

Chronologically, 49.... might have to convert that to dog years due to lack of sleep.

Other than that, the number fluctuates wildly depending on mood and what the wee furry ones (both official and unofficial ones) are doing to my blood pressure.

Sam

eyaniv - 1-7-2011 at 11:59 AM

New here and getting first trainer this weekend.

Age? 47 on June 11. Trying to undo years of sitting, reading and eating makes me feel older.

Morrie Williams - 1-7-2011 at 12:02 PM

67. Traction since 1991 and buggies since 1993.

Drewculous - 1-7-2011 at 12:27 PM

Been kiting like almost 15 years!

Not my fault my old man didn't fly traction kites, I grew up on 2 line trick kites...

All Power now, and I don't plan on stopping!

Scudley - 1-7-2011 at 02:24 PM

how do I calculate my average age?

Looking_Up - 1-7-2011 at 03:33 PM

27 average between how old I act and how old I feel sometimes

greasehopper - 1-7-2011 at 05:29 PM

According to the calendar, I'm Fifty... According to my bones, I'm well over Sixty Five (I'll spare you the med history as it gets pretty sordid and stupid)... Every time I hook in, I'm 10 years old, jumpin' my bike off a 25 foot cliff into the Black River for the first time all over again.

Bladerunner - 1-7-2011 at 05:46 PM

There is a T.V. commercial here. The Lady says I am 65 and feel better than I did at 35 .
Every time I see it I think, you must have been in awful shape at 35 Lady !

My mind often tells me I am still a kid but my body constantly keeps me honest !

tdmc96 - 1-7-2011 at 06:00 PM

Turnin the big 50 in November.....help....Ive fallen and I can't get up...lol

chudalicious - 1-7-2011 at 06:48 PM

A young 33.... Yyyeeecch - makes me ill even typing it.

Gonna learn how to ride a motorcycle next - that is my next adventure while I wait for the beaches to close in Sept. Add in some ice hockey too and Anderson has no chnace of keeping up!

:) only as young as you feel baby and right now I feel like a 22 year old and my body feel like it's ready to get my AARP card in the mail...

rocfighter - 1-7-2011 at 07:22 PM

mdpminc - 2-7-2011 at 11:36 AM

44 this year, battling with infection of "Morsus potentia milvi" for 5 years now.
Aqueous infection of the same will set this summer I hope.

windhunter - 2-7-2011 at 12:33 PM

Don't know if anyones keeping track but with the responses so far looks like about 45 ish is a good averge Don't they call this an EXTREME SPORT ????

Vince H. - 2-7-2011 at 03:28 PM

Two years younger than Morrie and Randy !!

mougl - 2-7-2011 at 03:34 PM

Ill be 36 on Thursday...yikes!

greasehopper - 2-7-2011 at 04:23 PM

That's why Corey Lama calls it Horny Naked Buggy Chicks... he sez nobody would show up if we called it Middle-Aged Fat Guys Flying Kites...

Leojim - 2-7-2011 at 08:58 PM

I guess my average age would be 23 yrs! I started life at a tender age of 0 yrs. Then, 56 laps around the Sun later, would make it (56+0)/2=23. So there you have it....23!!!
BTW, it use to be (many moons ago), that when someone would ask my age I would say: "Old enough to know better but young enough not to care!" I guess technically that still hold true since I'm really just a young guy in an old body. :moon:

BigMikesKites - 3-7-2011 at 06:54 AM

47 here

md2pigeon - 3-7-2011 at 09:49 AM

about to turn 22!

magictat - 3-7-2011 at 10:07 AM

43.

But I'll be 16 'till I'm 88.
Then I'll turn to whoever the hell I'm with
and say, "TODAY I AM OLD"

ps: wife kept saying "your too old to run a marathon"
Disappeared morning of the race, ran it in 4hrs 20 min. No training.
Actually we can do 10 times what you think we can.
(Never mind I couldn't walk correctly for 2 days.)
Too old my ass! The guy who taught me to
kite board was 68!!!

jellis - 3-7-2011 at 11:34 AM

65 but younger than Morrie.

Sounds about right and is in line with what I see at the beach. The irony is that kite manufacturers still refuse to put 40-ish guys/gals on their teams, they still think 16 year olds are the target market for the sport... WRONG!

tridude - 3-7-2011 at 11:58 AM

Think that might depend on the manufacturer and country.

PKD seems to have a nice mix of team riders.

He||, one of the team riders is a dog

Bravo, dead right!
Also, they "promote" their products with the freestyle ballerina spinning-top mosh-pit thrashers ... who cares? Interesting to note too that companies like FSer promote the kite mroe than the rider ... I guess the others are hoping for a flocking to the idol type effect?

bobalooie57 - 3-7-2011 at 08:49 PM

mmmmm spam! (oh yeah, 53!)

Feyd - 3-7-2011 at 10:00 PM

I could go for some Spam and cheese on an english muffin right now.

It seems to be true that marketing for kites has been geared towards the younger, hard charging, unhooked freestyle crowd. You know, the crowd that usually doesn't have any extra $$ to spend on a quiver of kites.

Not to say that the kites should all by mellow Sunday driver style. Or mad super cheap but there should be a middle ground or compromise in some areas. Look at mountain board offerings as a good example.

I usually get grief about this and I can't go into detail now but in my opion the whole "Extreme Sport" lable is NOT helping the powerkite industry. I hate to say it but it's NOT an extreme sport. It's an ALTERNATIVE sport with extreme elements. It's no more extreme than skiing, cycling, indoor rock climbing, kayaking etc. I think the "extreme" lable (which has been beaten to death by the marketing guys since the mid '80's) really runs a lot of potential sales off. Flysurfer seems to be recognizing this a bit with thier marketing of the new Virons.

People sometimes take this position as an insult. I'm not dissin' anyone I'm just trying to keep it in perspective. I drive a '87 Jeep YJ, Jenson Button drives an F1 for Mclaren. We both drive cars but he is at the "extreme" end of the car driving spectrum.

Of course I'm at the "extreme" end of the duct tape and JB weld end of the car driving spectrum.:bouncy:
