Board weights

I am interested to know the weight of people’s rigs. I ride a 13ply Trampa with 35deg Vertigo trucks as I am limited to rough ground and rarely have the luxury of a beach or field.

I have cut down the deck but my ride is still just under 7kg and as I am doing more freestyle I have started to really fixate on the weight.

1. is there much difference between a 7 and 5.5kg board in the air
2. If I stick with the 35deg trucks should I get rid of my 13ply deck for a stiffer deck that can be cut smaller and lighter?

Any tips for weight reduction welcome, but don’t suggest less beer!

7 to 5.5kg is a big drop. lighter is better for board off tosses. hollow skate truck and ultra light tires and wheel sets. if you r a heavier rider or just alot of rough slams the light stuff will break.

not much advantage on airs, as in height, but ease of one handed stuff. i have seen steep angle trucks on trampa and seem fine for light riders.

mine is 7kgs and feels a ton, in one hand. 5kg would be great

Thanks PHREERIDER. Guess I will cut more off the board and put some holes in it for now.

I also have a 13 ply trampa and i have cut it down to save weight. like phreerider said, it doens't make a huge difference on airs unless you are taking the board off of your feet. you also may realize that it makes your board more nimble when you are spinning.

I have the trampa skate style trucks with the hollow axle. You don't notice the weight difference unless you are riding all day and spending lots of time in the air. After a session you get tired less easy when your board is lighter, but that really pertains to days when you spend 4 hours or more flying. it definatly helps though! I had an old mbs deck that was really heavy and i didn't land as many tricks with. it was that it took me longer to place the board back on the ground the way that i wanted because of its wieight.

how much do you weigh, and what kites are you using?

Hey flyjump, I weight 75kg. I fly 9m Ozone Frenzy and a 8m RPM slingshot LEI in higher winds, but generally in +20 knots I am on the water. I am about to get a 15m Flysurfer S3 for light winds, so very much thinking about floaty board-off tricks with the landboard which is why I am trying to reduce more weight.

My first deck cut was fairly safe, so I am thinking of loosing about another 20% of the board by reducing edges and placing holes under feet. Just dont know how far I can take it!

I have wondered if it woudl be better to go for a heavier ply deck that can be much narrower, but money is an issue :shocked2:
