whats better power kiting or buggy kiting ?

shadowhound - 18-7-2011 at 01:15 PM

i was wondering what peoples thoughts on power kiting compared to buggy kiting are because to me making a buggy is easy if you can weld and in high winds a buggy can be fun and safe :)

Drewculous - 18-7-2011 at 01:31 PM

isnt buggying and powerkiting the same?

pyro22487 - 18-7-2011 at 01:33 PM

powerkiting is a group of sports buggying is a sub catagory of powerkiting. usually the kites can transition from one sport to the next. im a buggier but i dabble into snowkiting and jumping and of course scudding. a 2 metwer trainer or smaller can be easy to learn on and if its a decent kite it can be a highwind buggy kite.

shadowhound - 18-7-2011 at 01:58 PM

i didn't know it was the same haha :D also why do people buggy kite ?

Drewculous - 18-7-2011 at 02:07 PM

Go faster than highway traffic, with your arse 2" off the ground... With only the wind powering you...

Then you tell me why people like buggying :smug:

Short answer: its fun as hell!

AviN - 18-7-2011 at 02:51 PM

Drewculous ,
I couldn't say it better myself :lol::lol:

Once I got comfortable in the bug, it's WAY more fun (for me) than just static flying. I probably spend less than 5% of my kiting time static flying and the other 95% in the buggy. Love it.

It's the Best Thing!!!

same reason for me its fast and fun my wife wont learn to fly becuase she doesnt see whats fun about going back and forth but. when you are hauling 35 mph in a buggy with less than 2" ground clearance and the field is only about 400meters wide it can be lots of fun turning and powersliding 360s going backwards and of course everyones favorite obe (out of buggy experiances). ok last ones a joke try not to get hurt doing it lol.

pyro22487 - 18-7-2011 at 03:19 PM

better yet dont do the obe at all.

powerkiting is much more fun when you are moving. its the extra added element to kiting

shehatesmyhobbies - 18-7-2011 at 04:06 PM

Definitely buggying! Or boarding for guys like Adam! He is awesome at it!

Once you get comfortable flying, jump in a buggy and you will smile for days!

shadowhound - 18-7-2011 at 04:13 PM

hahh at 3.18 on that video made me go "awesome" i like the idea of kiting but i might go ahead and try buggy kiting

pyro22487 - 18-7-2011 at 04:16 PM

trust me on this it is an addiction. i tried it just to try it i was a jumper but darn you okckite guy and jojo1 just had to tandem me and then it was buggytimes from then on out.

Power kiting just different vehicles under you.

ragden - 19-7-2011 at 05:15 AM

Yeah... static flying never really did anything for me. Jumped in the buggy, and had a blast. Then hit the snow with my snowboard and was truely amazed. That iss when the fun REALLY started. Now I'm all over the water, but mostly because getting to good snow locations is much harder than driving to the water for me... If I had my choice, I'd snowkite all year round... But that would be difficult to manage... heh.

Nothing quite compares to screaming across the water (or snow) at 20 mph, then jumping 15 feet in the air, grabbing your board, landing it and riding away...

Bladerunner - 19-7-2011 at 06:29 AM

Flying static and in motion are 2 very different games.
Given the option I use my kites to get moving every time !

pyro22487 - 19-7-2011 at 11:32 AM

After review of the videos east coast riders are a little off. LOL. I do enjoy my buggy though wish i has a spot around here like that. Nice huge empty spaces of beach. Darn you Oklahoma for being a land locked state.

van - 19-7-2011 at 12:20 PM

2 inch?? wow that's high off the ground ..hahaha .. go to NABX .. some of the guys were wearing the bottom of the seat going 40mph !! Oh .. that was me!! If you want to know what kite buggying is really like, come to the dry lake. It's an experience :wee:

pyro22487 - 19-7-2011 at 04:58 PM

i would love to go to nabx but i have no funding for it. i may make it to deadbird one of these years but im not sure i could talk my wife into going. she wants to spend thanksgiving with the family. my family is just my parents and they dont care one way or the other. her family all live here and want to spend thanksgiving together. any ideas on talking the wife into going.

lmao! i missed that one!

singing at the end was pretty priceless!

pyro22487 - 19-7-2011 at 07:02 PM

i told you they were a little off. sounds like a group i need to meet though. i need to invest in a good helmet though. i think a bike helmet and shorts may be a little under protected.

surf4food - 20-7-2011 at 07:22 PM

Not a very clear question. Buggy kiting is one of many forms of "power kiting". A better question would be what is the best form of power kiting. There's buggies, kite land-boarding, snow kiting with skis or snowboards, kitesurfing/kiteboarding. Are you comparing any of those to just standing on the ground flying a power kite?

WELDNGOD - 20-7-2011 at 08:05 PM

hey pyro, I'm the skeleton w/ the pink skirt in the vid.(long story) We are definitely a little off,but we have fun!

pyro22487 - 21-7-2011 at 11:01 AM

I didn't say being off was a bad thing if you took offense to that. My wife thinks I am off for just being a kiter. I also breed snakes so i am way off.

AviN - 21-7-2011 at 01:59 PM

pyro, kites & snakes are my 2 favorite things. Have a ball python....L---o---v---e it :thumbup:

pyro22487 - 21-7-2011 at 03:21 PM

i actually guess i dont breed them any more. i just didnt have time. i work 6 to 7 days a week 8 to 10 hours a day. i really didnt want to clean cages the days that i did have off. i have 3 snakes now and i am much happier.
