Question about the Flexifoil Sting isn't is a quad line kite??? or did they make it in a 2line w bar. If its a 4 line I'd be interested. Or does anyone know if it could be converted to a 4 line?

furbowski - 24-7-2011 at 12:21 PM

Sting is a 4-line... My 1.7 is my best kite for giving others a first go... In 25 mph it is just beginning to scud me but already almost too fast for me to keep doing the fig 8s in the power zone...

OK... 2 line sting? I stand corrected on the 1.2... :puzzled:

opie - 24-7-2011 at 12:39 PM

This sting is a 2 line. Ill link to the thread here where I purchased it later this afternoon when I get to a computer.

opie - 24-7-2011 at 03:58 PM

Here is listing I purchased the Sting from...

http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=14307&p...

Its only been up once since I bought it.

It doesn't look like it could be converted to a 4 line.

indigo_wolf - 24-7-2011 at 04:07 PM

Flexifoils made Sting II's in dual line up to the 2.4M size.

ATB,
Sam

opie - 24-7-2011 at 04:33 PM

Thanks Indigo... I forgot it was a Sting II.

Had a look at the photo in that thread... The tabs for the brake bridle look to be on the trailing edge of the kite... may not be the same kite but have a look at the TE for the bridle attachment tabs.

I had my sting in 2-line mode for a while back when i thought it was easier to get folks started on 2 lines (in the short run, yes, in the long run, no, I've since thought) and it flew great on just the powers.

Good catch. Just had a look and the TE tabs are free to be. So perhaps it could be converted to 4 line.

Oh, and the kite Im selling and the kite in that link are one and the same. I purchased the kite in that listing and have had it up once since I bought it.

windhunter - 24-7-2011 at 06:10 PM

Furbowski, I think your right. I wonder if you could get a set of brake bridles for it an set it up on handles. Any flexi dealers/ reps that would know?

furbowski - 24-7-2011 at 06:13 PM

the stings fly great either way!

If anyone is buying this kite and planning to rebuild the brake bridle, get good dimensions! Rebuilt my bridle a while back, and it was not so obvious, even with all the original pieces there in front of me. Not hard at all tho with the right info, even from scratch.

edit... try IW for the info, or ask someone on the forum to measure theirs. Flexi didn't help me out back in the day, but it's not at all difficult to build a knotted brake bridle.

bobalooie57 - 24-7-2011 at 06:32 PM

I converted a 3.5M Ozone Imp 3-line trainer on a bar to 4-line/handles. The brake bridles(6) connected to the kite along the trailing edge, all connecting to the third line in the center of the kite. I split the 6 bridles into 2 sets of 3, one for each side. Just sayin' if you can divide the brake bridles evenly, you should be able to do it, and then have a 'convertible'! :bigok:

windhunter - 24-7-2011 at 06:33 PM

Hey Opie give me dibs on the Sting. What the heck I'll give a try at bridle building and if it don't work I still got a good kite for $76... Will U2U you on how you want the $$$$

opie - 24-7-2011 at 07:06 PM

I've put brakes on a couple 2 liners by eye ball / SWAG and they flew reasonably well (until I shredded them in the scrub) but nothing beats running the planform thru foilmaker to get basic bridle lengths and tow point estimates. My little Go Fly "micro dot" 1.something-or-other worked well on the lake bed @ NABX as a knobb mobilizer and it flew fairly well right up until nukin' winds and the scrub claimed it as well earlier this summer.

opie - 25-7-2011 at 02:25 PM

Beamer back up for grabs, $140 shipped.

opie - 25-7-2011 at 04:38 PM

furbowski - 25-7-2011 at 05:19 PM

That 3m hornet is one of the best starter kites out there, esp. for challenging and gusty conditions. Super stable, quick turner.

good luck with the rest of your sales

Hey Opie...... I thought I bought a "used" kite..... the Sting landed today and I'm having a hard time convincing my wife it's a used kite. She's gonna #@%$#! if the beamer shows up looking as good as this one. LOL Thanks for a great deal.

opie - 27-7-2011 at 06:16 PM

Haha, glad you are pleased.

The Beamer still has some sand in it that I couldn't shake out. Other than that, well..... Good luck with your wife!!!!!!

opie - 28-7-2011 at 08:34 AM

Final price drop, $200+shipping. Otherwise I'll hang onto it.

opie - 29-7-2011 at 07:33 AM

Cant believe no one wants this. Basically brand new for way less than even clearance prices on NOS.

arkay - 29-7-2011 at 08:01 AM

Great first bigger beginner/intermediate kite, and a fantastic price! If you're looking for something bigger than your 3m then this is a good choice.

KsKiteAddict - 30-7-2011 at 11:32 AM

Hi Opie: my kites arrived today and I agree with Windhunter... they look brand new. Thanks for the great deal and fast shipping. It was a pleasure doing business with you! Jim
