Power Kite Forum

New site for buying and selling used gear

awindofchange - 27-7-2011 at 05:51 PM

I would like to announce a brand new website that is just getting launched. This site is geared totally around the buying and selling of used kites and gear. It is a forum based site and hopefully it will give everyone in the kiting community a centrally located site that they can use to sell their older used gear to buyers who are looking for a great deal or kites that are no longer in production.

The site is:

Kitebookie.com

For now, all members will need to go through an approval to use the marketplace section of the site. Guests can browse the entire site. There is no charge to become a member and the site is totally free for everyone to use.

Our goal is to give the kiting community a central location to sell their used gear. Hopefully this will not only be easier for everyone to connect, but will also help clean up a lot of sales issues that are associated with the other informational forums like this one and many others.

Please take a look and if you like the site, sign up and become a member. We are brand new so there is plenty of room for growth.

Come be a part of this great new opportunity to support the kiting community.

Seems like a great idea. I hope it takes hold, there are so many different forums to read that have a for sale section. I wonder how many I don't even know about.

I found the blue background and yellow text difficult to read.

Hmmmm the site looked great. I really don't need another web site to tempt me.......

Nice little set up! Hope it works out well! Just what I need another website to browse all day! Registered, now for the approval

Respectfully, I don't see the the difference in kitebookie and PKF - it is the same thing, but instead of one FOR SALE section, there are a few...

Am I wrong?

Forums with sales:
PKF, Kiteforum, Foilzone, KiteCrowd, ExtremeKites, GWTW.

One stop shopping is always appreciated.

More importantly, I got the impression that KB was meant to have an audience that included dual line, single, quad, etc. in addition to traction kites and gear.

Sam

Very true, Kitebookie is centered around buying and selling of kites. That is its sole purpose. Many of todays forums that use to be stacked full of information about kites, resources and knowledge have slowly started to become overrun with sales. Kitebookie is designed to help clean up a lot of other forums and allow people to list or buy things for sale all in one single place.

It is not designed to compete with any of the other forums online as nearly all the forums, including this one, are mainly designed to provide service and information to the kiting community. Kitebookie is just a centrally located swap meet and not really designed to be an information source.

For people wanting to discuss the awesome hobby of kiting, all of the current forums are still the best place to do that. There is no way that kitebookie would ever replace the awesome resource of PKF, nor is it even designed to do so. But, if you are looking to buy or want to sell, kitebookie is your source.

The main reason Kitebookie was developed is because so many of the seasoned vetran flyers that use to frequent this site have started to move away - mainly because the majority of the posts here are all about buying or selling. Myself, as well as many of the seasoned veterans that I talked to felt that it would be better if we created one dedicated place to buy and sell everything kite related, and allowed PKF as well as many of the other forums to return to a information community that made them what they are today.

I will of course continue to be a daily contributor to PKF, just too much good information and too many awesome people here, hopefully Kitebookie will turn into what it is designed and be a great portal for everyone to use to move their older kite gear to new pilots.

Hope that helps explain things better. I will also see about adding some new themes for people to change from the blue/yellow.

Thanks for the support everyone.

Can't access the site from work "potentialy damaging content" I guess they dont like the term "bookie". Exellent idea especialy if you can get participation from a healthy number of north american dealers for there used ,overstock and discount kites.

Yeah, I have a feeling that the term "bookie" is going to trip the flag on a lot of content filters and UTM (Unified Threat Management) appliances.

great idea! i actually like the blue and yellow theme. i can read it fine. i like the concept of the website. once it picks up, should be a great help to everyone! everyone should use this site! very simple and straight to the point. easy to find just what you want instead of sifting through the for sale threads all day looking for the right product. also it helps to justify what is what if people dont know everything about kites....sorta like me lol.

Bladerunner - 29-7-2011 at 08:52 AM

I found that some other I forums KITESURF that we can't mention .COM

Have discouraged me from selling on other sites.

I sold my Speed on there and was bothered by scam artists for years after.

My big concern is that this will be a target for those same trolls?

awindofchange - 29-7-2011 at 12:23 PM

Scam artists are always a concern. This is the reason that we have set it up that all members must be physically approved. This helps keep the spammers locked out as well.

Any member that attempts to use any type of scam tactics will of course be banned.

We have also put up a large information section to help sellers recognize the main techniques that scammers try to use.

I am sure that we will have to go through some growing pains, but with the moderators doing their jobs and also being a part of the kiting community, we hope to keep things under tight control while still giving all the members the freedom to use all the features and benefits the marketplace has to offer.

Again I want to thank everyone for their support on this new project, we already have a ton of members and it is really awesome for only being online for a couple days now.
