Time to Accessorize

thanson2001ok - 30-7-2011 at 06:17 AM

I need a few accessories to complement my quiver.

Buggy leash - ( buggy is incoming)

Kite stakes - 3

Ice screws - 2 (it doesn't feel like it but the water will get hard again!)

More wind - (can't hurt to ask, right)

Full face helmet - size L

Looking for good used stuff, preferably.

If you don't turn up one, the PL Buggy Leash is only $12.

Might want to check if Kristen or CJ are still making kite stakes for people.

My favorite commericial ones are still the HQ version.

Ice screws... have only seen them come up for sale like once in the last two years or so.... long shot. If nothing else turns up keep an eye on www.sierratradingpost.com and www.backcountry.com for clearance items. There would have been a fair number of deals in the Spring.

Likely sources for deals on helmets:
www.jensonusa.com
www.cambriabike.com
www.motorcyclecloseouts.com
www.xsportsprotective.com
www.hucknroll.com

Todd, Why do you need 3 kite stakes?

BeamerBob - 30-7-2011 at 07:53 AM

Steve P has a really nice helmet for sale on here. I would've bought it had I not bought one 3 days before he listed it.

indigo_wolf - 30-7-2011 at 08:04 AM

@Bob: Only reason, I didn't suggest SteveP's helmet was that Todd specifically said he need an "L" and Steve listed the Simpson helmet as "XL". Nice price though. Thread is here.

@Chad: Sometimes stakes wander..... shipping is cheaper for a gaggle than one at a time. Won't discuss how many stakes I have accumulated over time :embarrased: Hmmm.... I wonder if I can make a bandoleer.

I use clothes line rope for a buggy leash. 20cents a foot at the hardware store...

Capt. HomeBrew over here...

Buggy leash : A gym/duffel bag shoulder strap for a nice, wide hand hold / waist strap and two bits of work boot shoe lace doubled up or some paracord work just fine.

Kite Stakes : Cheap aluminum tent stakes with the cheesy orange plastic ba-dinghy and some range balls from the local golf course. The stakes are just engineering nails / timber spikes formed just like 16 penny nails, just bigger. Whack the head off the tent stake but leave the serrations just under the head. Drill a hole in the golf ball 1/8 inch smaller than the diameter of the stake about 3/4 the depth of the ball and chamfer the hole with a bit 1/4 inch larger. Line the mess up and smack hell outta it with a rubber dead blow hammer. DONE. ( not advocating theft of range balls here but one or two always hitchhike home with me in my practice bag so, what-da-hey...

Ice screws : I live in the desert. ALL I know about ice is directly related to it's foul yet necessary affects on Maker's Mark...

Helmets : Never cut corners on brain housing units !!! Proper fit is critical. If yer gonna go out in the real shibit, wear the real shibit. If you burn your hands you can't wipe your own butt however, if your helmet fails, that issue becomes the Medical Examiner's problem... Your choice. That being said, Rocky Mountain ATV always has helmets and body armor on sale.

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...

not sure how this got double posted... sorry.

Cerebite - 30-7-2011 at 06:54 PM

For a buggy leash I use an old car recovery strap with a couple of knots to slip over the foot pegs and a couple to make a shoulder loop.

Todd,

Reason i ask is Kristen made me 2 for my buggy both of the solid and stripe green balls. I could send them to you if you want?
