trying to talk mrs. pyro into going to nabx sometime.

pyro22487 - 30-7-2011 at 03:46 PM

i want to go to a big buggy gathering sometime in the next year dbbb is out do to famiy stuff. jibe is out do to distance but nabx wouldnt be to bad its a little far but i can do it. my main problem is trying to talk the miss into going. she hates my hobbie. she thinks its an addiction not worth the time. i tried to get her interested but she wont even try. my plan for nabx is bribery with a trip to las vegas and pheonix both of witch are doable on the same trip. my question is what do you guys do at nabx other than fly kites and would there be anything for her to do while im flying. weather conditions would also be nice. like is it unberably hot or mild and windy. thanks for any advice.

Hey pal, my deepest sympathies to you!! I am in the same boat. Kiting is a definite sore spot in my house...:(

seems to be a running theme amongst the kiters lol.

2011 was my first time on the playa (any playa for that matter). Within 30 minutes of arriving, I was greeted by no less than a half dozen folks who treated me like I was an old high school buddy who they hadn't seen in decades. Mind you, I knew none of them before that point in time but feel confident I'ld stick my hand in fire for any one of them now.

GREAT PEOPLE !!! Very interesting folks from all walks of life with a singular common interest, to ride the wind. If she's in camp more than an hour without someone offering to set up a tandem and take her for a ride, I'ld be completely surprised. A tandem ride is guaranteed all the joy and freedom with none of the requisite attention to detail. If that doesn't kindle the flame of obession, I'll be surprised again. If she can't find someone to identify with at NABX, she's not paying attention.

Weather is anyone's guess but you can count on sun and day time highs around 95+ with lows reaching into the low 70's- high 60's. There is always ample shade and colorful, entertaining characters under it and even spare seating as a rule.

There's usually a lull in the wind from mid morning until early afternoon and plenty of time to pop in to Vegas for a quick trip (through Corey's or Kent's shops). Besides, after you two get your bearings, you can always cut her lose with the vehicle and let her go nutz. Several of us "wet camp proper" (get a room at Buffalo Bills) and "commute to play" each morning. Taxi fare for a ride on Lil Pepe', the 4X4 Toyota desert burro is reasonable, you buy the coffee.

well if thats the case then maybe talking her into it wont be a problem what are the dates for 2012. all i could find were for 2011.

Id be more than happy to take her for a ride on the landsailor, it is really awesome to cruise along side of someone buggying while sitting safely in the sailor. may help her see what all the obsession is about.

They won't firm up the dates until Nov of this year. Many of the organizers attend other major events during this time of year and Sept. Oct. time frame is when they start setting best and final dates for NABX. Watch the website and this forum for announcements. A good time frame for pre-planning is end of March, first of April.

pyro22487 - 30-7-2011 at 05:26 PM

well that could be a problem. shes in school and we are planning on spring break. fingers crossed for same timeframe.

pyro22487 - 30-7-2011 at 05:35 PM

oh and thanks to all for the information and offers shes down with going now she still wants to go to cali but we are going to make a second vacation for cali. i think her actually going tandem or sailing would really help. i have bee wanting to take her tandem for almost a year but sadly weather work and not having a second buggy always seem to hinder the plans for it. she does like 2 string stunters at least. also if 4x4 is a must im going to need a lift from vegas lol. my wife wants to take the charger for comfort reasons. it is definatly not an off road vehicle. it bottoms out on speed bumps going really slow.

pyro22487 - 30-7-2011 at 07:03 PM

well spring break is march 17th thru the 21st of march so that would be a great time frame to have nabx lol. ill just have to wait and see what happens i guess.

Not to worry were playa access by sedan is concerned, the road is pretty smooth except for a bit of wash board near the gate. The rest of the ride is far smoother than Interstate 15.

I did not take my wife to NABX but I did take her to the El Mirage event. I drop by Ivanpah on the way to El Mirage so we could visit Vegas. While we were there , my wife spent most of the time at the Outlet Fashion Mall next to Ivanpah. While you buggy, she will be too busy shopping!!

pyro22487 - 30-7-2011 at 11:40 PM

That could be almost as bad as taking her with me right.
Oh the posts that look messed up and everything are from my smartphone its a referb and my caps button doesn't work.

ripsessionkites - 31-7-2011 at 12:12 AM

Nabx follows after the blokarts.

Lots of stuff for the women to do there assuming they like to shop and do the tourist things. Carpool with someone to the playa and just leave her the car.

pyro22487 - 31-7-2011 at 03:19 AM

thats the plan ripsession. lol shes bringing a friend for her to spend time with.

greasehopper - 31-7-2011 at 03:26 AM

Thanks Ricky, I forgot that part. Sorry, just me being knobb-ish.

Their Americas Cup event proceeds NABX so it a safe bet to assume 27 March thru 1 Apr 2012

If you can figure a way to arrange it, this would be a great event to make as 2012 is an anniversary of sorts. It's being billed as a "reunion" of the original crew from the early 90's as well as the best and brightest of today. Of course, many folks headline both categories and the group as a whole is truly and international cast of characters.

I suspect both of you will NOT be disappointed. ;-)

OOH... COOL! I'm trying to do the same thing....my only issue is she is a teacher and we would either have to use a few days (hard to get away) or have her come up on Saturday/Sunday

awindofchange - 31-7-2011 at 07:38 PM

No problem Mike, If she can make it down just look me up and we can do some sailing. I always bring the sailors out for my wife and kids to ride while I buggy. Its also a great way to introduce new people to our wind sports. :)
