Pass the How to Snowkite video Order updated

stetson05 - 6-8-2011 at 02:40 PM

A couple of years ago there was a "How to Snowkite Video" passed around. It was lost before it got to me so I bought one. I thought it was worth it after watching and thought I would offer it again.

In light of the fact that the last DVD was lost the pass will be open to established members of the forum. I haven't decided how to determine this but maybe someone who has done a pass will give me some advice.

Just post on this thread your interest and I will assemble a list. If you are fairly new post anyway until I figure out how to decide. I will try and organize it by region to keep the shipping down. I will ship to the first person then each person will be responsible to ship to the next. I recommend delivery confirmation too. Please limit yourself to one week with the DVD so as many as possible can view it before the snow starts falling.

Post here and U2U your contact info to get things started. This is my first time trying this so I hope it turns out well.

List:
LeoJim
Mukluk-likely to get snow first
Drewculous-snows pretty early in Nebraska
cheezycheese
bobalooie57
labrat
ragden
flyguy0101
Chad
pyro22487
rtz
4my lifetime
Looking up
Donald Gould
Samm

Did I miss anyone?

cheezycheese - 6-8-2011 at 02:43 PM

I would like to watch it... :singing:

pyro22487 - 6-8-2011 at 06:56 PM

we dont get much snow but i have attempted a few times so add me to the list. darn cheesy beat me.

Leojim - 6-8-2011 at 09:38 PM

I bought it the same time I bought the progression video. You must have forgotten. I tell you what, you can be first. :spin: I can drop it off and save me some shipping.

mukluk - 7-8-2011 at 06:14 PM

What a good idea....

I'm pretty new here, but I'd love to check it out if it makes its way across the border...cheers...

stetson05 - 7-8-2011 at 07:20 PM

Mukluk, I am betting you will get plenty of snow in Central Alberta. I want the DVD to be available to beginners. I am fine with adding you to the list. I was pretty new once too.

I was actually expecting more new guys but I suppose I scared them away.

I figure if you are new, sign up, the worst I can say is no. Unless it is your first post, I will probably include you as long as you stay active in the mean time. It isn't as though we are talking about a $300 kite. I think I got it for $40 from Dakitez. I bet he and other shops have it if you want one for your own. I have been trying to get as many friend of mine to watch it since last year.

OH, I see, it's gonna cost ME!!! :ticking: :moon:

labrat - 8-8-2011 at 05:03 AM

I can still use all the help I can get...

ragden - 8-8-2011 at 05:30 AM

At one point I was interested in watching something like this. I guess it might still help me sharpen a few skills, but I'm not entirely sure I actually need to watch it... heh. Put me down as a maybe? If it happens to hit the DC area for someone else, I'll give it a look-see... Otherwise, no worries. :)

flyguy0101 - 8-8-2011 at 09:22 AM

I would not mind taking a peek at it as it comes to the east coast
thanks
scott

Drewculous - 8-8-2011 at 12:47 PM

if its on one coast going to the other, hit me up... im kinda on the way!

i have a beat up snowboard.. if it snows this year, im all over it :ninja:

rtz - 8-8-2011 at 02:51 PM

I'd like to see it.

stetson05 - 9-8-2011 at 08:48 AM

There are three ways to route the video, in order of request, by proximity to each other, and by when the snow is likely to fly. The first doesn't make sense but I am thinking about combining the last two. Let me know what you guys think but I am thinking Canada to Wisconsin, Nebraska, OK, then the East coast. I figure that OK and the East coast are going to be the last to get snow but someone can show me the error of my ways.

Wait, why doesn't cheezycheese live in Wisconsin. :dunno: Was I thinking cheddarhead? I think I will have to rethink my plan? Let me know what people think.
Thanks

bobalooie57 - 9-8-2011 at 08:59 AM

I'll watch the video when it gets to the east. Thanks for the pass!

cheezycheese - 9-8-2011 at 09:31 AM

I don't mind reshuffling. I am in NY.

stetson05 - 10-8-2011 at 10:06 PM

Just so you guys know, I am getting the DVD back from a friend. I leave for vacation for a week, no kiting, and will be back next Saturday. I will give it until then and I will send out the video. Thanks for your patience.

BTW anyone have any input on who usually gets snow first, Nebraska or New York?

cheezycheese - 10-8-2011 at 10:11 PM

Probably won't see snow here for several months... (NY)

Chad - 11-8-2011 at 03:59 AM

I would like to jump in there with ragden & flyguy0101 we are close.

One other suggestion.. copy it before it starts going around due to possible breaking in the mail? Just my two cents.

Thanks

stetson05 - 11-8-2011 at 08:49 PM

Chad, it is well protected. You are welcome to join the pass.

mukluk - 12-8-2011 at 06:19 AM

So how does the pass work...does the mailing / address list travel with the CD? Do we U2U our snail mail addresses?

I need everyone to u2u me their address. It also helps if a phone number and a email are included so that if there are problems people can be contacted more directly. I have a couple so far.

stetson05 - 21-9-2011 at 07:57 PM

Pass has begun! It took me a while to get it back from a friend, sorry. Please keep it for no more than a week and pass it on. Please spend the extra money for delivery confirmation so it doesn't get lost. Please respect the copyright. These guys are kiters too. If you like what you see and think it is worth showing to your friends, I recommend you buy a copy from a retailer on here.

Hopefully I didn't leave one out. I didn't verify which shops carry the video.

The pass is not closed, if you ask I can add you to the end if it doesn't get lost first. Enjoy!

stetson05 - 12-10-2011 at 11:23 PM

Mukluk has the video now then on to Drew. I should have asked if there is snow in his area of Canada yet. Looks like it might make it several places before the snow is too deep. Hope it helps

Looking_Up - 13-10-2011 at 06:55 AM

Count me in :wee::wee:

swyper - 13-10-2011 at 08:56 AM

swyper - 16-10-2011 at 02:22 PM

Thanks for the headsup XdisasterXdrewX....and the seed too! Dunno why I didn't think of that earlier.

Anyone know if Volume 2 is out already?

stetson05 - 31-10-2011 at 05:21 PM

Drew should be getting the DVD soon. Looks like I didn't get it out early enough to beat the snow. Hopefully everyone will get to watch it before the season is over. Enjoy, and remember, if you want a copy you can always buy one from one of the store that are around. If we don't support the stores they won't stay around. :dunno:

4mylifetime - 31-10-2011 at 06:08 PM

If you need to get it from Alberta to Ontario then to NY count me in. Love to see it.

cheezycheese - 28-11-2011 at 10:33 AM

I received the DVD on sat. THANKS!! Watched about 30-40 mins. Very well done and informative. Will try and get it out before the weekend. Who is next....?

bobalooie57 - 28-11-2011 at 10:45 AM

Looks like it would be me, Marc. Then on to labrat. I'll send you my info v U2U. Bob

pyro22487 - 29-11-2011 at 12:39 AM

You are correct about the snow thing still hoping though. ALso i have some three day weekends next year and am planning to head north for snow it takes about 2 hours to get to kansas and they have an airfield i hear. I am planning on trying it out if it has snow. please have snow kansas....

bobalooie57 - 3-12-2011 at 02:46 PM

I have, and have watched the video, I'm ready to send it along to labrat, who is next on the list. U2U me your info, and I will put it monday's mail.

MikeDobbs - 3-12-2011 at 03:15 PM

stetson05 - I missed this thread until just today. I know you said it would be open to only "established" members of the forum, so I'm not sure if I qualify... but if possible I would love to be added to the end of the list to see the DVD.

Thanks!

Mike

No problem, You can be added. Same with 4mylifetime. I realize this would be more beneficial to newer kiters mainly. I can't say I won't limit it but so far I haven't.

stetson05 - 4-12-2011 at 12:35 AM

just a housekeeping issue. One of my main goals was to get it to as many people as possible while they might get the most out of it. That kind of needs to happen while snow is on the ground. I don't mind letting it go back to Canada for 4mylifetime. My question really is probably for RTZ, looking up and Donald gould. Maybe from RTZ to 4my lifetime, then looking up and Donald Gould? U2U me opinions might be the best way to respond. I will weigh the responses and decide.

I am really glad it is getting out there and hopefully people will benefit from it.

cheezycheese - 4-12-2011 at 03:06 AM

Stetson I can vouch for MikeDobbs...

bobalooie57 - 4-12-2011 at 05:21 AM

So I got the O.K. from stetson05 to send this on to Mike Dobbs. If you will U2U me your address(copy to stetson05, also), I will put it in the mail Monday morning. Thanks again, Gabe for passing this video. Though I found it a bit slow at points, I think it may help me get up and going better thjis year than ever before.(I hope!)

MikeDobbs - 4-12-2011 at 08:19 AM

Cool Beans

Thanks Gabe for sharing this, and thanks Cheezy for the voucher : )

Samm - 6-12-2011 at 07:00 PM

If it gets through everyone, i wouldnt mind having a peak at it! Even if its off-season. :)

4mylifetime - 6-12-2011 at 07:13 PM

Thanks for including the canucks. Will send it anywhere you want. Just starting to get some flakes.
This video might stop the shakes until the lakes freeze.
Let me know the path.

labrat - 30-12-2011 at 07:13 AM

Passed to ragden, Thank you for the opportunity.

MikeDobbs - 30-12-2011 at 08:30 AM

I just saw labrat's post and realized I forgot to post on here when I passed the video on to him. Thanks for the chance to watch the vid Stetson05- I am currently in Canada trying my best to put it to good use on the fozen lakes...

Now if I could only get some decent wind :dunno:

ragden - 4-1-2012 at 07:52 AM

Got the disc last night. Haven't watched it yet. Will watch it tonight.
Thanks!
:)

stetson05 - 4-1-2012 at 11:43 PM

I have to say I am pretty impressed with how this is going. It speaks well of the good people here. I need to update the list but otherwise this is going very well.
Thanks.

ragden - 5-1-2012 at 05:45 AM

Will be dropping this in the mail tonight once I get home from work.

Couple comments on it...
In the opening sections, talking about kite selection there is a rather balatant bias towards Ozone open cell foils. I guess that is to be expected since the video was sponsored by Ozone, but they did comment that "closed cell foils dont work anywhere..." Or something like that. Kind of ticked me off.

The other thing that surprised me was when they were talking about getting tangles out of the lines, they recommend disconnecting the lines at the kite. Personally, I would avoid doing that. I always disconnect lines at the bar as there is a lot less going on there. Disconnecting at the bridles, well... if you accidently turn something over in the bridle, it could be awhile before you get it straight... And if the wind is blowing... there is a good chance something could go wrong...

Also when they talked about safety on foils, they only discuss how safety works on Ozone kites. No mention of how it works on any other kite brand. Granted, some of the other open cell foil makes use the same safety, but not everyone.

All-in-all, not a bad video. Aside from the bias towards Ozone, and the couple small things above, it had some good information on riding and some very nice shots of people out riding (though some got repeated numerous times). If you are planning on picking up an ozone open cell foil to kitesurf, then this is a great video...

If you are flying something else... maybe not so much... Just disaregard all the malarky in the beginning and skip to the riding sections...
;)

stetson05 - 5-1-2012 at 01:22 PM

I can't disagree with your review. For a lot of more experienced flyers it is a little over simplified. They don't show info on other brands or types of kites. There is a lot more out there than what is covered.

I think it is good for a beginner to kites or snowkiting it is a decent video. For a beginner who is excited to learn and there is no wind, it is great.

pyro22487 - 6-1-2012 at 01:03 AM

So where is the video now. Still no snow but just curious.

ragden - 6-1-2012 at 05:36 AM

I meant to send it out last night, but got caught up in other things after I got home... Darn "honey-do" list got me. I'll get it into the mail tonight...
;)

flyguy0101 - 17-1-2012 at 05:57 AM

Video is on its way to chad today, thanks for sharing stetson
Scott

Chad - 18-1-2012 at 06:03 PM

I will be sending it out shortly to "pyro22487"

I hope i am not missing someone...

Thx for sharing :bigok:
