FS Speed3 21m - 5 knots? Really?

joedy - 9-8-2011 at 05:07 AM

Any care to verify Flysurfer's posted low-end range of 5 knots on the Speed3 21m deluxe?

Anyone in the 180'ish pound range and riding in just 5 knots?

I think if you had butter flat water, good current, real clean wind and a consistent 5 knots ... no  That video looks like the camera man is standing in a wind shadow. It may be possible but it'd be the planets aligning kinda thing ... or just a really excellent locale! Not saying it's impossible though ... and it'd suck if the wind died right off.

I'd say 8 knots for sure, you're riding and having fun. 10 knots for me & my fat ass ... I need another 2 knots more for the ocean too.
I was out today in what one weather station recorded as 6 to 8 knots (17 knot gust) and another recorded as 14 knots ... FWIW. Felt more like 10-12 knots to me when I was holding my ground and doing silly jumps (more in the gusts) and 6 to 8 knots when I was riding downwind and walking. Riding downwind at 6 knots, crosswind at 8, up and jumping at 10.

Incidentally, Junkie-Sensei was out with a 2011 Turbine 17m, the new whizz-bang light wind pumpy kite ... it was as good as my Speed2, but I weigh at least a half as much again as what he does and was on a twin-tip - he was on a big directional. We got going upwind, parS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n'ride at the same time ...

Powerzone is upwind on his 15m Speed 2 and FSer race board in 6kts......................21m S3 on a raceboard is very doable if the 185lb rider has skillz........Powerzone has big skillz................

Yep, first time I ever felt like I could lean back against the kite. That 19 just kept pulling in what seemed like almost no wind. As a matter of fact, it wanted me to lean back against it. That board/kite combo I've heard is almost like cheating!

I can attest to that, having had him up on one shoulder during no wind time at nabx!

On my speed3 15m deluxe I can usually ride my flydoor XL in 10mph. I weigh 230 lbs. I would love to get the 21m but my launches are tight as it is.

kitedelight - 10-8-2011 at 08:33 PM

for those who have ridden both...what is difference in bottom end between Speed3 15 dlx and 19 dlx on water?
