HQ Montana

I just got back from flying my 9.5m Montana for the first time.:singing:

It was a blast! The winds were too gusty, but I just had to try it out.

The kite was easy to set up and launch (after I viewed the instructional DVD).

It has gobs of lift and I was able to get some good jumps in. It wasn’t as scary as my old 6.6m Blade - it seemed more predictable and not nearly as violent.

Anyone else flying one of these??

How did you pull that off without a harness?? Which just came in BTW and should be on its way Monday.

I used my old climbing harness and a carabineer.

I flew it again today, but this time the winds were too light:thumbdown:

I'm still learning how to fly it. This depowerable flys much different than my Blades.

Hopefully I’ll get some good winds and some time to fly it more.

One thing to keep in mind. If you pull the bar in slightly before the turn, you can get more distance between the lines and get it to turn sharper. If you watch, and you turn it without pulling the bar in, the brake line on the side you are not pulling just goes very slack. If you pull the bar in , you get much more pull on the side you are pulling, and the other side still will have just a small bit of sag instead of a lot.

Thanks for the tips Scoop,

I got to fly it for about two hours yesterday in good clean winds. The transition (fixed bridle to depower) is going well, but I still have lots to learn.

Got a question for all of you - how much does the average depowerable actually depower? 20 to 30%?

Some of the best are at a ratio of 4 to 1. The new Pulse from flysurfer is an astounding 7 to 1.

Yours is probably somewhere between 3 and 4 to 1.

OK - that's a little clearer now.

It still feels really strong in 15 mph winds when fully depowered.

Yeah... I got lofted the other day in 15 mph winds when a big gust came by.

It scared the heck out of me! I was on my board, so at least I had a nice smooth landing.
