Type of kite for this....LEI? Depower most definately im guessing...which do you guys prefer? Are LEI only good for use on the water? If so then what
type of Depower should i use to snowkite and possibly get some air?
Also, what do you guys use? Any tips before the winter comes and i get started? Anybody from the northeast know of some reputable spots to ride
relatively close t boston?
Thanks,
Chris

I personally haven't had any experience with LEI, but there are lots of guys in our state that use the same LEI's year around. From the video's I've
seen they get plenty of air when intended. Depower seems to be the best choice when cruisin the snow. I've used fixed bridles with good success, but
they lack the gust absorption needed when kiting inland areas. I prefer Arcs because we really get alot of intense gusty wind here in the winter
months. Nothing against pumping bladders, but it really turns me off when it's -5 F and my fingers are freezing, but that's just me.
Never been to the Boston area, so I couldn't tell you any good places to snow kite. I'm sure others would have a better idea. I'm kinda all about
the lakes in the winter time. It's the midwesterns' version of Ivanpah for us. Cheers.

Most guys at home use their LEI's on the snow too. One pump has made pumping up in the winter more bareable. I could not deal with that part though.
I use my Peter Lynn Twinskins on the water, snow, and ground.

i used the Rabbits last winter ... for solo launching with a snowboard. having a delta shape really helped. also you could keep flying even though it
was still snowing.
i used everything from my Vapors, Chargers, Rabbits.

I use foils on Snow. Namely, used my Outlaws the last two years, unless winds were really low, then I grabbed my S3 15m. Actually, the original reason
I bought the Outlaws was so that I could snowkite with them. They work great for that.
As for places to snowkite... Look for any frozen lake around your area that has decent snow cover on it. Baring that, look at the Tug Hill area in
west New York State (just south of Watertown). It might be a bit of a haul for you, but its closer to you than it is to me.. And I used to drive up
there for weekends (and probably will again).

Burlington VT. is a great place. Out on Lake Champlain. Check out the Kite Storm pages at the bottom of the main page.

All kites will work on snow so run what you brung. What works best depends, as with everything else, on the terrain and type and depth of the snow
that you have to work with. As far as where to kite, the frozen lakes are the best in our area as they have wide open areas for smooth wind flow. They
are not without danger as breaking through the ice would not be good. Join the yahoo group IceReports for up to the minute ice conditions in the
northeast as well as other mainly ice boat related info. Another group is maineicesailors predominately for the Maine area. People with some
experience scout the popular venues and report on the conditions.

Go with what you know!
LEI is probably the most common kite out on snow. Mostly because that is what the people fly.
I spent my 1st 2 winters on snow with a 3, 4.5 and 7m fixed bridle set up and got by O.K. because that is what I knew.
I now use depower but have a large fixed bridle in tow for low wind days.

lots of guys use LEI around here in the winter too. I recently picked up a LEI, so I have a little of everything - foil, arc, LEI - problem being...
I appreciate aspects of all of them....this could be a bit of a problem!
