Nice! It goes against so many things but it looks like it's been done safely and with safety in mind. Clever. Clever, clever.

Well, If you must try to fly tethered, they are at least trying to be safe.... er, what they believe to be safe.

Though I must give the video a  for the NPW!

airwombat - 18-8-2011 at 09:51 PM

I don't know what NPW means but i thought the original video was alright. judging by his somersaults and hands-free moves, he's clearly done it a few times (and survived), and it did look like fun (with a small kite), so why not? Not sure i'd be next in line to try it, but each to their own....

NPW = NASA Parawing... the type of kite being flown.

Biggest gripe is the lack of a helmet. If the lower tether (it seems to keep the bungee from fully retracting) breaks, I could see the double bungees sending the flyer into the pole which could range from being painful to a more serious head injury.

Sam

...different...

not sure if i approve.... carnies... LMAO!

airwombat - 18-8-2011 at 10:59 PM

ah...NASA parawing...thanks for clearing that up Mr Wolf.....(shows my kiting ignorance right there!)

I agree that for a stunt like that, he should/could have been wearing a helmet. Was his attachment to the jib/pole bungees? There's a point where he drops a bit and the lines seem to wobble rather than stretch(1:30ish), which made me think he was on static lines (I'm no expert and could well be wrong). It's a moot point though; he could still have been wearing a helmet!

Edit: double post

pyro22487 - 19-8-2011 at 01:13 AM

Not sure I approve maybe see the setup in person. I don't know.

rocfighter - 19-8-2011 at 04:40 AM

This looks like a disaster waiting to happen. One good gust with a sudden lull and the dude goes mellon first into the pole. Just to many danger factors in the mix. And no safety gear. Good music though.

pokitetrash - 19-8-2011 at 04:58 AM

Im ok without doing that... It looks like something I would have done 25 years ago though for sure.... Right after a huge bong hit...

PHREERIDER - 19-8-2011 at 05:51 AM

everything looks fine... until the a backlash goes around his neck!

NPW on a bar, that brings back memories.

too many lines

Bladerunner - 19-8-2011 at 06:28 AM

Big points for forward thinking.

I think it's odd they took so many measures to be safe and then didn't pad the pilot ?

Folks thought the 1st folks they saw dangling from a kite were nuts . :dunno:

bobalooie57 - 19-8-2011 at 07:05 AM

I dunno, to each his own, as long as you're willing to accept the risks. He certainly looked well practiced, hanging by his feet from the handles, and all. :D

BeamerBob - 19-8-2011 at 08:11 AM

The pole, no helmet or pads, and the height off the ground were all dealbreakers for me.

Now, do it from a sailboat mast with more line than can let you reach the boat in a fall, with a helmet and there might some realm of safety.

skimtwashington - 19-8-2011 at 08:36 AM

Human teetherball-One player!

He's available to appear at first annual NPW kite club outing.

What else can you do with a NPW kite.....that no one else will do witha 'regular' kite? let's see...

People with Disabilities

The Sky Fly has been awarded the Tourisme et Handicap for visual and mental disabilities and is pending for the motor impairment. Meetings with people with disabilities have revealed the potential of such a practice, that this potential is sporty, with access to new sensations and powerful psychological development of every man with a face of attempts to domestication of a phenomenal force: the wind, or psycho-medical practitioners that go beyond their disability than by themselves and by becoming aware that their physical disability does not represent any discomfort in the practice of SKY FLY. It's also a great tool for rehabilitation, for example hemiplegia.
