I'm teaching physics this year

flyjump - 25-8-2011 at 06:53 AM

Today is my first day back at the highschool for this year, and my first time ever teaching physics.

you better believe we will be flying kites!

Drewculous - 25-8-2011 at 06:56 AM

w00t!

i lead a mutiny against my physics teacher in high school... she was bad...

my sister had the same teacher a few years prior, and they threatened to burn their books in front of her room...

BE BETTER THAN MY PHYSICS TEACHER!!!!

...in a round about way, i think i hooked her up with an administrator.... computer pranks are good after-all lol

good luck bro!

not just kites, board skills . Lots of physics in board control ...haahaa ...

my first block class i am doing some skateboarding tricks in the room, like basics....kickflips etc.....

they are gonna be stoked

it'd be awesome to get a bunch of kiters in class, it'd be a good excuse to take a field trip and ride all day lol

BeamerBob - 25-8-2011 at 07:03 AM

You could spend the whole year just understanding kites. Go getum. Make your class that one they always look back on and smile saying they had fun AND learned something.

I'm sure you would make Sir Isaac Newton proud!! A body set in motion...

You are my HERO !!!

Just be the spark that ignites a flame. Inspire !

ripsessionkites - 25-8-2011 at 07:29 AM

have a good school year ... see you at WWBB.

Scudley - 25-8-2011 at 09:30 AM

For lesson planning get yourself a copy of Isaac Asimov's Understanding Physics. Vol.1 is probably the best explanation of Newtonian physics ever. One of the few physics texts written by someone who could write.

That brings chills to me thinking what a good class you are gonna teach! Wish I had someone like you when I was in school! I had to find physics and all the fun it entails all on my own. Glad I did too life would be so boring if I hadn't!!! Good luck and a pat on the back too!!!

Well done Fly keep up the great work :bigok::bigok:

pyro22487 - 25-8-2011 at 03:38 PM

physics would have been a blast, hell school would have been a blast if we had teachers like this. when i was in school we had a gym coach teaching social syudies and history and the trig calculus teacher didnt even know how to do the work. got to love low funded uninterested teachers in public school districs.

shehatesmyhobbies - 25-8-2011 at 04:16 PM

Sounds Awesome Adam! you are going to be the favorite teacher of the year!

Have a blast!

Our high school physics teacher was on the New Zealand basketball team, wore Angus Young outfits on mufti day and taught us about atoms and nuclear reaction by making us watch that episode of The Young Ones where the bomb drops in their living room.

My Calculus teacher used to tell us stories about playing naked volleyball in Tahiti and when he taught physics, would leave the Vandergraph (sp?) machine charged up over lunch break for unsuspecting students to 'play' with ... French teacher used to play golf with student erasers in class and would throw your pencil case out the window (second floor) if you misbehaved - I once walked in on him trying to stuff a whole student out one ... the principal used to come and play cricket with us in his 3-piece suit ... we had an English teacher who was in bombers in WWII and we could pretty consistently get him to spend the whole lesson telling us war stories ...

I dont remember doing a lot of studying at high school

WELDNGOD - 25-8-2011 at 04:33 PM

you'll rock it Adam!

WELDNGOD - 25-8-2011 at 05:50 PM

and I'm learning longboarding this yr!

flyjump - 25-8-2011 at 05:58 PM

it was a hit today..... i had the peterlynn website up on my projector a few times today......

its going to be great year, but i am exhausted. Donnie, good luck with the longboard man. take out some of those Fb and ride around on the longboard in a big parking lot. i will post a video of me kite skateboarding soon

WELDNGOD - 25-8-2011 at 06:06 PM

I got a big azz bamboo pole to push with, like SUP. It is awesome dude,i'll try to get on a kite.

flyjump - 25-8-2011 at 06:18 PM

hard to find coastline, but theres plenty of parking lots to ride in :)

Cheddarhead - 25-8-2011 at 07:50 PM

Maybe when I die, I'll be reincarnated as your student. My past physics teacher was dry as toast. :barf:

flyjump - 25-8-2011 at 07:53 PM

Haha, thanks for the encouragrment guys. Wish you all were in my classes

acmbarber - 25-8-2011 at 07:54 PM

Sounds like good hook. I don't know if your curriculum is similar to BC's, but I wonder if you could play up pendulum jumps. There is no end to vectors and kites. I have got to say, where you teach, they start early. I don't start teaching until September 6th. Kick Ass on a physics position, here at least, it is a optional course, so you get students who are interested in the subject. Have fun with them.

Physics was one of my favorite classes in HS. My teacher has me drive past the class in my 67 Chevelle with the horn blaring to demonstrate doppler effect. Thinking Physics: Understandable Practical Reality is a great book! I strongly recommend using it for some of your lessons. Have fun!
