Control Bar

Midgaar - 27-8-2011 at 05:26 PM

I just picked up a Venom II and am looking for a bar for it. I'm also going to be picking up a LEI soon so I'd like to share the bar between the two. Is that possible? What bar do you guys like? I have the Ozone Turbo Bar for my FB kites so I was looking at the Ozone bar but the Infinity bar looks nice too. Let me know what you guys are using on your ARCs and LEIs.

What size V2? Seems that most LEI bars go no bigger than 55cm these days ... fashion statements I think :) big arcs NEED 65cm I reckon.

Depends how your LEI flags too - double front line? single? 5th line?

16m V2. I don't have a LEI yet was thinking about a Taboo or Wainmen.

IMHO you're better off buying the bar that's designed for the kite by the same company. 100% peace of mind and no compatibility issues.
Hit up Feyd and see if he can spare on of his 205 bars

Have you thought about a Switch kite? Nitro is what you want for freeride ... kites are cheap and I'm selling a Switch bar even cheaper too :D although I may get a Nitro 16, just to see what they're like ...

Where do I find a bar for a kite that is 5 years old?

If you set yourself up with a long throw bar then it would more than likely be compatible between the Venom and and LEI but some LEIs do not like as much throw so you would need to set a stopper on the line. Other than getting line lengths correct for both uses on one bar, the biggest thing to keep in mind is setting up your safety system - you want to be able to fully flag the Venom and you might want to de=power your LEI slightly different depending on the model. So make sure your safety will work for both.
The Long Throw bars we had made up to use on most of our twinskins were essentially a pick up of an Ocean Rodeo bar from a couple of years back. However if I used the stock OR bar set up the safety system would not have fully flagged the arc, it would have done just enough to put the kite into a power loop.

So should I just get a navigator bar for the V2?

agree with Kami but if you go with one bar buy one with an adjustable stopper ball on the depower line so you can adjust your throw from the arc to the LEI................fyi the Wainmans are sweet kites but only require 15 inches of throw which is about the same for an arc so the Wainman bar would work on both......................

... eBay? You mean the Venom? Lotsa Zero7 bars around ... and the Nav bar will work fine. May have too much throw and trim for the V2 but you can check the Arc FAQ and use the stopper ball and restrain yourself with the trim :)

What's the safety on the Wainman? Single front? I seem to remember pictures of the leash going to the swivel :o

Venoms indeed need long throws, otherwise you won't get near the depower that's in the kite, just because your bar won't go far enough. Same goes for the max and minimum trim distances, twinskins need lots of trim space.

Any Peter Lynn bar will work, but good luck finding a second hand one without having to buy another kite that comes with it. Your best option is to get a new navigator bar for it. It'll probably cost twice the money your kite did though. That's why i'll always advise against buying old twinskins without bars...
