Pedal Powered Kite Bug

airin - 28-8-2011 at 10:44 PM

Thanks to the inspiration of Bobalooie and his bike-bug tow bar ( see his video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&... ), I now can pedal my bike with my bug in tow to the closer of the our two local kite parks. No car needed!

I thought about that very thing in regards to the other thread.

Would definitely be a workout for the calves and quadriceps.

Great job Erin! Maybe a little flag on a stick to make the bug more noticable in traffic, and away you go! Glad my "solution" is able to help your "dilemma" somewhat.

The Puppy is going to think you made it just for her !

If there is a west wind , I'll meet up at Vanier and see it today!

Thats pretty dang slick!

As long as its not too much uphill, you could prolly drag a 150lb bug like that... Might have to upgrade to steel over pvc, but pulling a bigger bug wouldnt be too hard

Awesome vid!

that rocks ,glad ya' stayed with us ! I keep hearin' Jack White at the intro to "effect and cause". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1Z0H8CHPIU

"I guess you have to have a problem, if ya want to invent a contraption" Problem overcome! And you lowered your "carbon footprint"! Double bonus kudos and good wind karma pts!

Very nice! What did you use for a connection onto the seat post?

airin - 29-8-2011 at 07:57 AM

Thanks for the comments guys!

Sam, you crack me up with your dawg-gone good images and virtual high fives!

Snowspider, right now I'm using a short web strap threaded through a vertical bolt that we inserted in the bike end of the PVC bar. I'm planning on changing the attachment to a skookum Velcro strap so that there's no chance of it loosening while I'm riding.

Hey ss, I shot you an e-mail with the pics of my velcro strap attachment. I think if you were to glue a 't'or 'y' fitting at the bike end of the bar, you could also feed the velcro strap through that, then around the seat post, and draw it tight without having to weaken the pvc by cutting the slot, like in my original one.
