Arc/venom low end on the water

Statistic - 30-8-2011 at 05:06 PM

Rian's 19m V2 for sale got me thinking about a low-wind machine for the water for the 8-12mph days that seem to have been common this summer (I'm 190lbs).  After reading a bunch here, it seems like the low end on the V2 isn't as low as I would have thought.  So if you don't mind sharing:

What is the usable low end of the 19m v2 on the water for someone my size?

At what windspeed does launching/inflating the venom become a hassle (without a leaf blower…)

What (other than a speed 2 of course) is the favored low-wind machine on the water, and how low does that allow you to ride in?

Thanks all

Don't think of big arcs as low wind machines on water. The larger ones are really for larger riders. I can ride the 19 in about 15-16 mph and can stay with it up through the low 20s. Larger board would take some of that away. At 190 you could probably count on riding with it at 11-12 through the upper teens, depending on other factors.

I can just barely fly my v19 in 8-10 in the buggy. On water it needs at least 12 if not 15 at which point the 16 is about the same. Get a floaty surfboard and you'll go in 12, but i can't say it's all that fun. Arcs do much better with mode wind. I'm looking to get into a _large_ foil for light wind on the water.

12mph on a door or directional is possible with skillz.........................8 to 12mph on water is owned by FSer

They are right but there is one scenario I would like to attempt on shore steady just about twelve but slowly falling off and put up a stack 19 16 13 v2
And really see how low I can go BTW I am large so even flysfrs are not really an option for me as of the moment I need 15 min on the water with a big door

I'm thinking the Charger will have more low end ... it's gruntier than the Synergy for sure.

i am 200lbs. on a 140 sk sprint. the unit in the video is V II 13m. the above data link corresponds the video, i was out 1-4pm, i also shot another video on the land board it was around 4

the brief peak in the afternoon must have been when i moved onto the water. power was fair the 3 back kite loops kept it interesting.

it was low tide not yet slack but close. this is the working (not a park and ride) low end of this unit. with a race lower for sure. at least less work. and not easy

PHREERIDER - 30-8-2011 at 08:37 PM

The board is the low wind ticket. directional race really is the only thing thats gonna run nice in 8-12.

a 19m V II with race would be alot to handle. arcs down to 6,7,8 fill and fly. kinda gotta keep it moving .

BeamerBob's right, big arcs are not lightwind machines, they are intended for moderate winds for big kiters. I needed at least 18 mph to get going with my Venom 19 with a door (and lots of sining). For lightwind performance I HIGHLY recommend a good, modern LEI. I weigh around 240 lbs and am able to go out with my 20m Waroo in 15 mph winds easily and 14 mph with some sining (assuming minimal waves or current). My Bularoo 16m is almost as good, with a bottom end of around 16 mph. My wife, who weighs around 100 lbs, took my Bularoo 16m out in 12 mph winds and was lit. ;) Find yourself a good, big bow or SLE. They are much better in light winds than any arc.

ya, dido to Tridude, 8-12mph is pretty much flysurfer range.

for other ideas....
Spleene x-19 looks about the same as the big flysurfers
HQ matrix 15 looks like it can give 8 knot rides, but thats probably with lighter guy.

All - Thanks so much for the advice. I'm going to pass on the arc and do some more reading and think about maybe saving my pennies for a flysurfer. I just did a search for "speed" and "tridude," which should keep me busy for a while. I've never heard of the x-19 either and that looks interesting.
