Directions

Tigger - 4-3-2006 at 11:52 AM

I've looked all over the forum and can't seem to find good directions to the NABX Camp Site on Lake Ivanpaw, NV. I know one heads south from Las Vegas, NV towards Primm, NV. Near as I can tell one can use a couple of different exits from the interstate to get there. Which is the easiest route to get there (notice that I didn't say shortest). I have a GPS's but I'll be damed if I know how to use it yet. Hoping someone there will clue me in amongest other things.

Tig,
Getting to Ivanpah is one thing.
Finding the nabx site is the tough part.

Ivanpah Dry Lake is accessed only one way.
Exit 1 at Primm.
East side of the freeway, turn right and pass in front of the casino and Outlet Mall. The road circles the perimeter of the property and after you pass the mini-mart (on the right), as the road bends, there will be a dirt road on the right, through a gate in the fence, out onto the lakebed.
It is posted "Authorized Entry Only" and other things.

Speed Limit on the playa is 30 mph.
Faster speeds raise a ton of dust.
Please slow down.

Stay to the left of the markers.
We don't drive in the ruts as it only makes them deeper.

The nabx site will be difficult to find.
It will be a large pavillion-type tent.
Surrounded by upwards of 300 people.
All their cars and trucks.
Couple hundred buggies too.
Out on the edge of a flat, barren desert dry lake.
Tons of kites in the sky.
20-30 camps in buggytown.
About 3-4 miles down along the lake shore.

I'll fly a flag so you'll recognize us.

Best bet is go to Primm, send up a kite, and wait for someone to come and ask you what you are doing. No doubt this will be a kite person, whom you might form a life time bond with.

At this point, ask if they've heard of the event. If not, keep fishing.

Seriously, if you go to the nabx.net site, the drop down on the right labeled resources>maps and directions>Ivanpah will get you there.

Really, nabx.net is got all the info you could want, and then some. Of course we don't mind answering questions here either.

Keep looking for Corey, i'll post a picture of him later so you will recognize him!

aoxo~!

Thanks Dean, I don't need a pix of him, I've met him a couple of times in his shop and unless I was talking to the wrong guy; Maybe I'm wrong, bet he reminds me of Gilligan (LOL).

I am looking forward to meeting everyone who post here as well as the others, whom ever they are. Unfortunately I am only able to attend the first and last days of the event. But twice is better than naught.

Yes, twice is nice, but we hope you find a way to spend a few more days....

much aoxo awaits.......

Unfortunately not this year, gotta save vacation time for my wedding in Mazatlan, MX this coming Sept. I have informed the wife that I will be attending the fun next year in its entirety, regardless of the dates.

I went on maps.google and took a couple of screen captures that show Primm and the lake clearly and drew a few arrows. One shows Primm and the road exit winding around the casino and mall to the lake entrance, the second shows the rough location of base camp. When you get there, just look for the giant pink arrows on the road ;-)
Here's the first close up of Primm

here's the second shot, follow the road (tire tracks) to base camp - just look for kites and smiles.

Wow, great, even I can follow those directions. Downloaded them and going to go to Walgreens for enlargemens. Bifocals, just don't cut it any more.
