SOLD-FlySurfer 13m Speed 1.5

thanson2001ok - 11-9-2011 at 10:01 PM

You can only fly one kite at a time. I picked up a Psycho3 13m and have a Speed 2 19m inbound. So, this one needs a new home.

For sale is a 13m FlySurfer Speed 1.5 RTF with Flysurfer bar and lines. Here are a few details:

- kite flies great and holds air nicely
- the kite looks awesome in the air but up close, the white isn't pure white any more. Seems to be common on FS. The photos represent the colors well.
- The canopy is in good shape. It has one very small professional repair made by John at Powerzone. It looks bullet proof. You can see it in the photos.
- zippers work and are in good condition
- It has the FDS upgrade and 5th line safety installed by John at Powerzone
- Bag is in good condition and the zippers work fine.
- Bar and lines are in good shape.

Asking price is $525 and I will pay shipping in ConUS.

Whassup? No takers? Great kite. Price reduced to $495.

mougl - 15-9-2011 at 08:35 PM

Why is this still here???

thanson2001ok - 23-9-2011 at 03:26 PM

Is there something wrong with my kite? Anyone? :dunno::rolleyes:

I have the 19m SA incoming and with my 13m Psycho, this will never see the light of day.

tridude - 23-9-2011 at 05:04 PM

the bar and lines look near mint...................Todd you should really think about flyings kites after you purchase one...................:lol:
seriously Speeds are great kites. In 6kts this kite will get you into the low 20s in the buggy on sand. A low wind buggy motor indeed Im sure with the right conditions same same on snow. The PZ 1.5 mod def increaes the depower range.............all round awesome kite folks............

g00fba11 - 23-9-2011 at 05:33 PM

Soooo tempting..... Sooooo broke.......

shehatesmyhobbies - 23-9-2011 at 06:48 PM

Trade for a Neo II 8m? doesn't hurt to ask! Mine has been flown maybe 8 times! Awesome kite, just want to try one of these flysurfers!

thanson2001ok - 24-9-2011 at 09:16 AM

Hmmmm, never flown a Neo. Let me think about that. Was actually looking for a 10m ARC. Maybe this kind of fits the bill.

tridude - 24-9-2011 at 07:50 PM

nice fit in your depower quiv........................great kites, very stable.......................land water snow your call!

Midgaar - 27-9-2011 at 09:13 AM

I'm waiting for the psycho 13 for sale post...

thanson2001ok - 27-9-2011 at 09:32 AM

Good one. Flew it again on Saturday. Amazing kite with amazing depower. It was good for a OBE and buggy flip. Grass stains is all. Nothing besides that.

I really prefer cash for the Speed 1.5 but...

Anyone have a 10m ARC they want to trade?

Midgaar - 27-9-2011 at 09:47 AM

I would have loved to see that! I'm glad you're OK, minus the stains. You get that 19m in the air yet?

g00fba11 - 27-9-2011 at 10:34 AM

I sent you a U2U Todd..... I may have what your looking for......

shehatesmyhobbies - 27-9-2011 at 02:44 PM

If you score goofball, and you get it before WW, you gotta let me give it a shot!

Wish I could have worked out the deal!

thanson2001ok - 28-9-2011 at 09:31 AM

U2Us sent.

g00fba11 - 28-9-2011 at 11:35 AM

Rich..... you'd be more than welcome to give it a go if it works out.......

I am still trying to decide what to throw in the bag for WWB......

If this works out I would most likely have 2 FSer's with me..... a couple of FB's and a couple of arcs...... all depends on how well I pack up.......

thanson2001ok - 7-10-2011 at 02:49 PM

Taking offers.

Or will consider trades for 10m- ish closed cell, ARC, Neo, etc. Whaddya got?

Txshooter38 - 7-10-2011 at 03:50 PM

12m Synergy for trade.....Interested?

tridude - 7-10-2011 at 05:29 PM

great low wind buggy motor..................6kts upwind no problem..................nothing outside of a racekite goes upwind like a Speed..............awesome seller too!

DihongShao2000 - 8-10-2011 at 09:39 PM

Phycho 3 10m for trade?

kiteyakker - 9-10-2011 at 05:18 PM

U2U sent!

tridude - 9-10-2011 at 05:42 PM

Great kite, serious upwind and jumping engine. If you have the skill set, 10/11 kts on water is very doable.................good luck to both parties...............

skelman - 10-10-2011 at 07:56 AM

Hmm, sounds really, really interesting...

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Speed 1.5, 2 and 3? Are there significant safety differences, or differences with the kite or bar setup? A $495 depower flysurfer kite sounds really tempting, but I'm not very familiar with it.

Also, 13m for a #230 person, would I be majorly, or slightly underpowered?

Anyone have an idea of the wind range? 6 kts on water, really?

Still available?

P.S. kiteyakker...hello Minnesotan! :)

thanson2001ok - 10-10-2011 at 08:15 AM

U2Us replied. Kite still for sale at the moment.

The Speed 1.5 has modifications made by PowerZone Kite Sports so it functions like a Speed 2 and has the 5th line safety.

The Speed 3 has more depower and the Infinity bar I believe. (at a very different price point as well.)

The 13m Speed 1.5 here WON'T get you out on the water at 6kts. You need the 19m or 21m Speeds for that. Others can tell you better what it woulod take to get your 230 lbs out on this but I would imagine 13 kts or a little more?

I bought this in order to really get to know FS foils, then picked up the 13m Psycho. Doesn't make sense to keep both. I am glad that I did though. I went ahead and picked up a 19m Speed 2 fro the really light wind days.

Other FS experts may want to weigh in here. I am a FS rookie.

dandre - 10-10-2011 at 08:23 AM

FS Rookie,
but it sounds like at your weight this kite would be a golden goto kite for you.

Maybe you'll want a 21m down the line, but for now this is a SMOKIN deal.
I would have second guessd my 17m for this but I wanted a lightwind kite.

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 08:41 AM

S3 has shorter bridals/risers, velcro deflate tabs instead of a deflate zipper, internal intake zipper/cell config adding to depower, and the a fore mentioned depower, bar etc..................this is truly an upwind rocket that works on water, soil, and snow..........the depower mod brings this in with the S2 and the 5th line FDS is a must especially above 15kts...........after examining the pics the kite/lines/bar have years of life left...................If you want to get upwind, go fast, and jump high, this one will do it...........................

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 08:46 AM

for tuning tips, CL upgrades, etc ping Powerzone @powerzonekitesports, Kamikuza, Szuchyk, or myself.........................

6kts in the buggy upwind...............at 230 lbs on the right board 12/13 kts upwind on water with a top end of 22/23 mph, maybe 25..............Ive seen one forum member upwind in 8 mph on my 19m SA2 and he is your weight so I have no doubt about 12/13 on this unit.................if you buy it and just cant make it happen Ill trade you my 12m Pulse 2 for the 13..........you can bank on that.............

skelman - 10-10-2011 at 09:38 AM

Thanks for all the information, I really appreciate the details. I haven't flown a depower kite yet, and I don't have a mountainboard, kiteboard, snowboard, buggy, or anything else. So more gear would definitely be needed for me to make use of it (including a harness).

I'm not seeing as much information out on the web for the Speed 1.5, how old is this kite? I've seen a handful of comments in various places about not using any kites before year 2008 (I think?) because of safety concerns or out-of-date hardware.

So speed 1.5 means it was simply a Flysurfer Speed and was modded to be similar to a 2, so it's now called a 1.5?

Sorry for the ignorance, and thanks again.

Btw tridude, your website appears to be down (powerzonekitesports.com).

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 09:56 AM

thanks for the website info.................yes the Speed came out in 2005 with the 17m Silver Arrow (light wind kite) and the Speeds (standard cloth) came out in 2006 in various sizes...................John at Powerzonekitesports deveolped the 1.5 mod in 07/08 to increase the top end range on the Speeds to bring them inline with the Speed 2s. John and powerzonekitesports is the only Flysurfer retail and repair center in the US. His mod of course was blessed by Flysurfer.............John gave the mod the 1.5 distinction........................

dylanj423 - 10-10-2011 at 01:09 PM

i thought the speed 1.5 was just the addition of a 5th line depower, like the pulse line... it doesnt do anything to steering does it? i think "brining it in line with the speed 2" might be a little generous... upgrade from regular?... sure, but speed 2? i dont think so... but im no expert

... also, there is an excellent flysurfer repair business at fixmykite.com... just sayin

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 01:51 PM

the 1.5 mod assists turning and is a linear depower mod...........again the 1.5 mod improves the top end of the kites range and turning speed. Im well aware of fixmykite but again PZ is the only authorized FSer retail/repair center in the US. I had a Pulse 2 repaired by fixmykite because John was not available to due the repair...........they did an amazing job......................with 4 years experience on water with Flysurfers I wont say Im an expert but I do understand what they will and will not do. The 17m SA 1.5 is a very sweet park and ride kite that lights up at 10mph. The 13m S1.5 needs 12/13 to begin to rock. 16 to 18 is her ''lit'' spot for me at 180 lbs................6kts/mph whatever in the buggy and shes off................not sure but Id say 8mph on an ATB.............

smeltaFi - 10-10-2011 at 04:25 PM

Tridude you say you're "lit" at 16 to 18. Are you riding your 139 board and when do you find you're too "lit". Could a smaller board push the top end up higher? I'm looking for a one kite quiver for the water just not sure what to look for yet.

to comment on the 17 1.5, i have the regular 17 speed 1.5 and in 10mph on a 135x43 i am flying up wind and @ 180lbs

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 05:21 PM

yes on the 139............a smaller board would have been nice but I was in full control........... 21/22 mph on the 139 was my 13m top end. The 139 is a flat, fast, and flexible board, a serious all rounder.........and at the time I weighed 205. Presently Im at 180 and began riding strapless prior to my diagnosis last February. I dont believe in the one kite quiver theroy but the 13m Speed is close...............

smeltaFi - 10-10-2011 at 06:44 PM

I don't believe in a one kite quiver either I just don't have the means to have too many kites. Last winter all I had was my 9.5m for snowkiting there was at least one or two days a week where the wind range was fitting and that was perfect for my schedule. I'm hoping to due the same in the summer. Find something I can take out at least once a week and then decide for the next year what I should go with to get out more.

tridude - 10-10-2011 at 08:31 PM

gotcha smelta...................keep in mind the 13m powers like a 15 to 17m LEI..................
