Power Kite Forum

Snapshot 2.5 or similar

LowFatBacon - 17-9-2011 at 03:29 PM

Hey, I am looking into power kites for the first time.

I am a big guy at 6 foot 3 and 170 pounds, so I would like a kite to have some fun with.

Let me know if you have something for sale! Thanks

Hey LowFatBacon,

Prepare to become hooked ... once you power kite, there is NO going back (just so you know)

I am getting into kiting this year for the first time. I started with a Peter Lynn Vibe II 1.9m .... I am 6'1" and 205 and this is definately a light weight for me ... should have gone bigger. I think even a snapshot 2.5, you will find pretty tame until the wind really starts to blow.

Dual line seems to be the way to start so you are on the right track there .... learn to fly then look for quad line.

Best price I have seen on a snapshot new is $142.50 .... Peter Lynn has a decent Vibe II 2.6 for about $120 ... you may want to look bigger though like 3.0m or 3.5. There are some decent 2 and 3 line trainer kites in this range ....

What do some of you more experienced flyers suggest.

Welcome to the party!

To start if you want to eventually progress I would recommend a 4 line kite.
The snapshot can be converted to 4 line but you will have to buy the parts separately. At that point you may want to go for a tensor .
additional brands to look at are Ozone, HQ power kites Peter Lynn
To start the recommended size is 3-4meter kite.

I sent you a U2U.

What sort of wind speed do you typically see at your closest flying field? There is the PKD buster soulfly in 2.2 and 3.3m, pretty good bang for the buck.
