Not Ideal Tides This Bash

rickgi - 21-9-2011 at 11:38 AM

I don't want to be a pessimist, but I guess due to scheduling conflicts, hi tides will be in early afternoon. Not ideal, but still can have a good time, weather/wind permitting. Good idea to have the larger tires, then you'll have the whole beach to ride.

PS I vote for May for the Spring Bash also, froze my arse off last April (I know, I'm a whimp!).

It was definitely due to other much larger events in WW on either end of the dates we picked. Much easier to get around just buggies and a couple of people on the beach than deal with a thousand kids on the beach during a soccer tournament or cheer event. I would rather dodge someone that knows what I am doing than dodge someone that is running out in front of us to figure it out! :dunno:

We have had to ride on the soft pack due to wind direction on more than one occasion! Yes bigger tires will help you out a bunch!

Tried to pick the best weekend for all!

flyguy0101 - 21-9-2011 at 11:59 AM

Rick,
i noticed the same thing thats why monday is looking like the better day to leave. As well that means a low tide in the evening and every time i have been to WW the wind blows nice in the evenings so NIght rides it wil be

Scott much agreed! A night run would be an awesome experience! Nice being heads up to possibly something special for this bash!

Rick, buggy harder! LOL
I will not attend any bash in May,ever again. It is a recipe for disaster. It gets too warm in May and the tourons come to the beach. And then sit right down on the low tide hard pack and dare you to hit them. I can put on clothes to stay warm. But , I can't make some dumba$$ sit somewhere else.
I guess I'll go to JIBE this spring if WWBB is in May...
Have fun dodging Idiots w/ their children running loose everywhere.

flyjump - 21-9-2011 at 02:10 PM

what time are the morning tides this fall? i'll get up at 5 or 6 am just to ride. unfortunatly boards don't work on soft sand.

in the afternoon when tide is up i guess we can shoot some how to videos with my quick launch and land system. also i guess i can do some gear guide work for arcs if people are interested

WELDNGOD - 21-9-2011 at 02:16 PM

you can go longboarding with the PIRATE matey buck!!!! AARRGGHH!!

Jaymz - 21-9-2011 at 04:53 PM

Just get an early start to catch the hardpack. To bed early might be the tough part ;-)
I'm with WeldnGod on a May event. You sure don't want a large group of buggies there on a warmish sunny May weekend when all the bennies come out of hibernation.
October and April can see 40's, but that's not close to cold in my book. Layer up and ride hard

buggydanny - 21-9-2011 at 08:41 PM

I think that the tide info on the wildwoodbuggybash site is a day off. Here is a link to an October tide chart for cape may ( tide will be within a few minutes of WW). If you look at the whole month, you will see that there aren't any great weekends tide wise for the bash and most are far worse.

Tide Chart

At our beach, with a favorable wind direction, the hardpack is usually usable 4+ hours before and after low tide. I am not sure that it is the same a Wildwood, but I would expect that the hardpack would be usable at least 3 hours before and after low tide.

The "soft" sand above the hide tide mark is quite vast at Wildwood. On my first trip there in 2009, after a hard rain the night before, this area was very usable with barrows. I had a great time buggy there during high tide. At the last bash, the area was a struggle with barrows, and not very fun. Who knows what we will get this time, but if you have wider tires I am sure that they will help when the tide is in.

flyjump - 21-9-2011 at 08:48 PM

Danny do your good weather dance so that i get some hard pack to ride on!

looks like i may be buggying for a few hours of this event lol

buggydanny - 21-9-2011 at 09:00 PM

Adam

I am certainly glad you are coming. Weather dance won't bring hardpack, it will be there in the morning/early afternoon and after dark. The dance will be for some healthy wind.

Ever try a buggy before? A strong freestyle buggy with a lap belt sounds like it would be a good fit for you.

See you next month.

flyjump - 21-9-2011 at 09:07 PM

Im looking forward to it! Thats what is getting me through all these meetings at school that are stressful

kiteplace - 21-9-2011 at 09:43 PM

buggydanny,
Here is the tide charts I use:
http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/newjerseysites.htm...
Check tides for Wildwood Crest Ocean Pier.
Cape May Ferry Terminal tides run about 18 min. later.

DAKITEZ - 21-9-2011 at 09:52 PM

Thanks for all the info everyone. I was about 90% sure to bring my bf lites instead of barrows but now I am 100% sure :)

Don't worry Adam you can make me some tacos as you wait for the tide to go down so you can ride your little tires

Maybe you would be better to drop your wheels and trucks and just sand surf with your board :moon:

DAKITEZ - 21-9-2011 at 09:57 PM

I bet at high tide you guys still have more usable beach than we do at low tide. I will be just stoked to get out and ride with all you east coast folks. I will be the little guy in the 88 buggy. I really like it when people throw sand on me as I go by

ragden - 22-9-2011 at 05:42 AM

Riding in the soft stuff isnt always easy, but depending on conditions, it is totally doable. I've ridden with barrows up into the soft stuff nearly every year (sometimes just because I can, other times because of wind direction, or tides).

Getting up early to hit the beach will be the order of the day... No sleeping in this year... (doh!). Night rides are sketchy, because of visibility, but we shall just have to see what works out.

Depending on the wind direction, maybe we will just have to hit the water in the afternoon... I'll have some extra boards with me.. Bring yer wetsuit
;)

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the beach. See ya soon!

HAHAAAA betting a snowboard would work.. someone bring a junker one for Fly to try!:wee:

flyjump - 22-9-2011 at 02:11 PM

i'll be dropping rocks when i'm jumping overhead! death from above:evil:

WELDNGOD - 22-9-2011 at 02:13 PM

actually you need formica, put it on the bottom . Already made a stainless sand board. You can't hold an edge against the kite,it just pulls you towards the kite. Wasn't that much fun. Better for down hill runs on a sand dune.

Can't wait to meet ya dude! The soft part of the beach gets groomed by the beach zambonis ,but it is not that smooth, kind of rough actually. No rocks, just unsmooth sand w/ patches of super soft blown sand. Hit one of those and its like a glue trap! but its fun!
here is a vid of the soft part of the beach http://www.vimeo.com/16353903

shehatesmyhobbies - 22-9-2011 at 02:54 PM

Rocks from above!, Man I am glad I always wear a helmet!

Now I am hungry for Tacos! Hmmm sounds like a new menu item for the BBQ, more like BBQ Fajitas!

DAKITEZ - 22-9-2011 at 03:03 PM

wow that beach is huge! This is going to be good times. You will definitely see me riding the soft sand. That is a looong walk to the waters edge. You guys would find me face down in the sand about half way if I walked that far :)

WELDNGOD - 22-9-2011 at 03:37 PM

and then there is the low tide hard pack... http://www.vimeo.com/26355862

kiteplace - 22-9-2011 at 08:14 PM

Dude,
We do get so great rides at Wildwood when the winds are right!
That day was near EPIC!

flyjump - 22-9-2011 at 08:18 PM

learning is extremely easy at wildwood when the winds are coming off the water strong. i'm praying for 20 + winds again this fall

rocfighter - 23-9-2011 at 04:25 AM

The soft sand is awesome for practacing OBE's. Hurts much less when you head plant at a good speed!!

Bleh... You just need more power and bigger tires and you won't have a problem. Of course, the issue comes when you hit the soft stuff at speed... then you might have an issue. If you hit it slow, then power up, not normally an issue... *shrug*

rocfighter - 25-9-2011 at 05:54 AM

Ragden I've got big tires!! And on the prowel for bigger ones and a bit smoother:ticking:

lol. I remember those giant tires on your buggy. I would think you would do fine in the soft stuff with those buggers. You just need to be comfortable with the amount of power you would require to get that moving...
;)

rocfighter - 26-9-2011 at 04:58 AM

I have a line on some tires the same size but with less-much less tread. And the price is right up my ally:lol: Get them out of the yard and you can have them! If it's free, It's for me!!
