Land Skates

dandre - 1-10-2011 at 01:14 PM

Was lookin to pick up a pair of land skates for kiting in MD.
Static flying is getting boring(although the practice is paying off) and my kites are too big not to take off.

SOOOO nice having grass to kite on instead of arid desert plains.
Got some nice jumps off w/ confidence!

How much are you looking to spend ?

Probably the best way to go on a moderate budget is Coyote skate by Rollerblade. Search Coyote rollerblade on Ebay for best chances at a deal. Craigs list and such as well. Problem with Coyotes is they fit a bit small and large sizes are rare to find. Buy 1 size up from you normal shoe size.

The new models on the market are not cheap but well built.

Doomwheels are the home brew option.

Low budget= Doomwheels Do it yourself.

Higher $= Coyotes used from ebay/Craigslist.

Higher $$$= http://powerslide.de/en/nordic/frames/nordic-frames-overview... OR http://www.terrablades.com/

I really don't want to spend any more than $100.
Any more than that and I might as well just buy a decent used landboard.

kite skates don't look that cool anyway.

I'll prob just end up buying skorpian skates if it comes down to it.
I just need practice dynamic flying

erratic winds - 2-10-2011 at 03:44 PM

dandre-skorpion skates are not for kiting use and would be a waste of your money.

And you really need $250+ for a decent landboard, seriously.\

Kite skates don't look cool? Better not tell Spartan that as he does a 360 grab 15 feet up.

OUCH !

With a comment like that I shouldn't tell you Scorpian skates are a waist of money.

To not tell you would be even more unKool!

;)

Sorry. I'm sure you rip but I'm not tryin to go venice beach style right next to the highschool.
I'm sure I'd grow into it, but I'm only going out of montana for two months... two weeks of which will be in vegas.

I plan on kiteboarding/surfing after this year. I just want some practice for snowkiting.

Bladerunner - 3-10-2011 at 06:34 AM

All in good fun !

I am not pleased with Scorpian skates though. Save your money !

If you are eventually going to water then money is better spent on a mountian board / snow board?

dandre - 3-10-2011 at 06:37 AM

thanks for the heads up.
I'm not going to be happy with skate trucks on a mountain board am I?

Bladerunner - 3-10-2011 at 06:48 AM

My mountian board has Vector trucks. Like beefed up skate trucks. Is that what you mean? I am happy with Vector but don't push it or weigh a lot?

shehatesmyhobbies - 3-10-2011 at 05:33 PM

Bladerunner - 3-10-2011 at 05:58 PM

They'll do you just fine for awhile. I've been on skate trucks on ATB's for 4 years now. I have a set of bionics just sitting around unused, ready to go on when the skate truck fails. I just upgraded my bushings on the ATB skate trucks and it's an a-ok ride!

I won't have cash till next week.
I'll probably stick to my guns @ 250 for a decent used board.
I know windzup's board is gonna get nabbed before then.

PHREERIDER - 4-10-2011 at 05:04 AM

ATB is more like snowboard ..in 20+ its more like kiteboarding

coyotes more like skis

and coyotes are phun be sure you get the ones with the flight option!

Anyone already planning to take a shot at those coyotes on ebay? I am interested if the price stays down, but don't want to be bidding against one of you guys if you are already bidding on it..

Bladerunner - 4-10-2011 at 04:50 PM

Be there at the last minute.

Size 11 isn't up that often. Good for size 10 - 10.5 foot.

Don't bid too much . There is a pretty regular flow of these on ebay.

dandre - 4-10-2011 at 05:12 PM

Yeah I got the impression I could just wait around.

Kamikuza - 4-10-2011 at 05:14 PM

Terrablades

lamrith - 4-10-2011 at 05:24 PM

yeah I am old sc hool ebayer, would not bid until last 5 sec regardless, just hate to bid if one of you are already after it... Hate to jack up the price on someone

Yeah I am a 10.5 so the 11 look "perfect"

Jaymz - 4-10-2011 at 07:31 PM

I got 2 pairs, size 11 off Ebay in the last 2 years. I'm a 10.5 US and they fit well. I paid $60-$80 for each pair. Got the second pair to have spare wheels. I've only been out with them a few times on the grass field and had good fun. Close to kite skiing but alot bumpier. Remember to pad up.

lamrith - 4-10-2011 at 07:49 PM

hrmmm 60-80 ehh, this pair is $96+30 shipping sounds a bit spendy, I may let them pass..
