What happened to Erik was due to a combination of factors, not the least of which were that kites in those days didn't have nearly as much depower as
they do now, we didn't have proper safety releases back then, and where it happened (Mokuleia Beach on Oahu) at that time of year, they have huge up
drafts. That's why it's a favorite spot for gliders (there's a glider port across the street from the beach). Trust me, we should all be glad that
there haven't been a lot of accidents similar to what happened to Erik.Bladerunner - 2-10-2011 at 10:14 AM
I expect it is the changes in depower as well. That kite he has is so skinny at the tips it almost looks 2 line!
I am VERY glad this hasn't happened since. Speaks volumes for the changes in safety.
When he is talking hooking in up there I expect he was using a static D loop?WIllardTheGrey - 2-10-2011 at 10:25 AM

If you watched the entire video, there is an interview WITH HIM over the phone talking about the incident. Yeah, he is fine. Couple minor scratches if
I recall rightly...Kamikuza - 3-10-2011 at 06:18 AM
