sky country reflex

dirtslide - 5-10-2011 at 10:20 AM

i have been flying the Sky Country Reflex's for 5 years now and have to say that although they may not be the fastest kite on the market they are so fun to fly and make all the power that I need to buggy weather that is freestyle or just freeride . I have a full quiver ,sizes are 2,3,4,5,7.2,8.5m and use them all, wind permitting. I even buy other brand name kites and compare back to back just to make sure there isnt something out there that I like better. I have had other high end wings such as Ozone yaks, Utun Butanes, Flexifoil Blades,Jojo RM+ ,and liked these kites very much but have to say that the Reflex is my go to wing .Very dependable in all wind ,fast enough for me , never falls out of the sky and will still give me a work out session when ever i what it to. I have just bought a Ozone 4m meathod so i can match the two 4m Reflex vs the 4m Method head to head as Ozone has claimed the method to be friendly and gust munching so we will see in the neer future how they stack up against each other.I just love testing new kites and hope i like the Method so i can keep it too.If you ever get a chance to fly one of the Sky Country Reflex dont pass it up ,great kite ,custom colors when you order and made fresh to order in most cases .I love mine but will share if you want to give them a try . Ken Martin ,power kiting over 14 years ,ATB,buggy, kite surf .spinal cord injury has left me in a wheelchair for now but hasnt stoped me from enjoying kiting , I just have to do it sitting in a buggy and the Reflex suits me perfectly. thanks Sky Counrty ,Tonya & Sean.

+1 for SkyCountry kites!

The kite that they make that I think is fantastic is the AlaSca ! With the light, slick material I have been with Tonya and she was riding snow on her 10m when I was still trying to get my 15m arc to launch !

SkyCountry also offer a couple of models of closed cell foils at much less than Flysurfer prices. I like the Wave !

5 years in Vancouver now and SkyCountry is still our Public Secret

P.S. Please don't re-sell the Method before I get to take it for a spin ! :wee: Have you tried Brian's 4m Flux?

Ken, you are so welcome man. Other than Dusty, there is no better person to fly with than you. And it is definitely best when it is the three of us.
Here is some video of dirtslide having fun with his 4m and a couple of friends.

dirtslide, you ever try any Reactor IIs? I had some original Reactors and then moved to RIIs when they came out and my description of them would read the same as your skycountry review, and for the same reasons I haven't branched out much. I was hoping you could compare against them as well. It's awesome that you've found kites that fit your style well. Rumor on the street is that you are heavy on kite skills, so I listen closely when you are talking.

Blade you know that you have total access to any kites i have so open invitation on that Method . Yes Beamer I do own a Reactor 2.2m II and like it and would like to have a 4 or 5m to try and have tried Bladerunners 10m and like you have mentioned they fit that bill very well .

Guess DS doesn't remember the day we swapped kites for a while... :eureka:

5 meter reflex & 5.5 RII.

Very Different Kites in the way they fly. Both are easy fly fly (in nice wind) I give the RII the edge while at the top of the wind range & the Reflex the nod lower down in a kite's wind range.

I think all the reflex kites were sized from the 5 meter. It is my favorite of the whole range.

Rakov says you're correct about Reflex being developed from the 5m. I also asked him about why the bridle material is the same for all sizes. He says the load on the bridal lines is the same whether you are getting 100lb of pull from a 10m or a 2.
My favorite is probably the 4m.
