Can anybody comfirm if the kite shop at 46 Neal St, Covent Garden is still in business?

indigo_wolf - 12-10-2011 at 04:49 PM

There is a shop called:

Kite Store (The)
48 Neal Street
Covent Garden
London WC2H 9PA
Tel: 020 7836 1666
Int'l: 00 44 20 7836 1666

But it is 48 not 46 according to the Covent Garden Directory where it is still listed.

Store hours are listed as:
Mon-Wed, Fri: 10:00am-6:00pm
Thu: 10:00am-6:00pm (Jan-Mar)
Thu: 10:00am-7:00pm (Apr-Dec)
Sat: 10:30am-6:00pm
Sun: closed (open during Christmas)

Can always give them a call.

Alternatively, if you would be willing to provide food, lodging, air/ground transportation, I could check for you.

FWIW: I would guess they sell mostly SLK, dual lines, and maybe some very basic foils judging from the store front.

ATB,
Sam

Additional photos unavailable until the UK lifts the flyover restrictions on my satellites. Some people have no humour whatsoever. :sniff:

That store is closed, has been for a few years. They did focus on stunt kites but had some power kites and a buggy or two on the walls.

Unfortunately, the internet has killed most of the kite stores in the UK.

Sad to hear.... but 25 years is good long run.

Immense respect for Mark (Cottrell) for distilling into words all the technical aspects of dual line stunt kites into what has been and will probably remain the benchmark for some time  .

FWIW: For as many kite stores that closed their doors due to the Internet, quite a few fluorished because of it. Fair to say, the whittling away of more and more non-dedicated/multi-use open spaces is probably more to blame.

Thanks for the info. I can recommend a fantastic kite store in Norfolk (UK) :- Edge Power Kites. They have a superb website and the most helpful staff in the world!
