Trying to get the Infinity bar spinning freely ...
Originally, there was an 8mm tall nyloc M8 nut and a 7mm tall locknut on top of a brass washer - it worked good enough but I want it to spin more
freely. The thrust bearing spins flawlessly but it's 5mm tall ...
So the options of securing it are now :
One 10mm tall nyloc M8 nut.
6mm tall nyloc M8 nut and 4mm tall locknut - cut, filed or milled down by hand.
2x 5mm tall M8 nuts, top one locked with thread lock.
What is the best option?Kamikuza - 30-10-2011 at 05:16 PM

Pictures, diagrams or hieroglyphics would help IMMENSELY.

I would go with the 1 10m M8 nut. I like simplicity. So, you got the bearings just fine?PHREERIDER - 30-10-2011 at 06:06 PM
stack, thread prolly notKamikuza - 30-10-2011 at 06:26 PM
From what I've read, the nyloc nut is the best option but FSer paired it with a jam nut too
I've got the 9.75mm nyloc nut on now, but no thread lock ...
The other problem is that it's not stainless steel, I don't think ... hoping that it's zinc coated ...?
@phree ... er, what?

I would shy away from thread lock it could get into places you would not want and some of it requires heat to undo. Double nutting is very secure if
you can get them tight against each other without cranking down on your bearings.stetson05 - 30-10-2011 at 06:51 PM
be careful with mixing metals. I assumed you would get them ok. I suppose I should check my mail I might have something besides bills in there.Kamikuza - 30-10-2011 at 08:33 PM
Problem is I've only got 10mm to play with, double-nutting it means very slim nuts that didn't "lock" when I tested the small one I made.
I've got Loctite paste that's easy to handle but I wanted a more secure bond - usually, just a few drops is all I've needed with the liquid. The only
bad places it ends up is all over my nice white shirt I'm no Hyneman
The big base washer from the OEM set up is brass I think ... I'd prefer stainless nyloc nut too but of all the "hardware" stores I've been to, that
was the only one with nyloc nuts at all
I *could* just file down the OEM nyloc nut but ... I don't want to Kamikuza - 31-10-2011 at 06:42 AM
Got out tonight with the Speed3 12 and the modified thrust bearing bar ... oooh it's nice - too nice in fact :D once, I ended up flying the kite with
the bar reversed because it unspun so easily basically, if you untwist the
lines but spinning the bar, the whole lot is unspun automatically!!! :bouncy:
Now I just need to worry about the materials and corrosion etc ...
