Bruised Heel

hondamon - 31-10-2011 at 02:08 AM

Anyone have experience with a bruised heel? Came down on it hard...been a wee bit over 2 weeks and still hurts. Had an xray a day after it happened and nothing serious says the doc. Wondering who's had this happen and how long it took for recover time?

It can take a few weeks before your 100%. the bone is not the only thing you can injure. small amount of muscle, and connective tissue. Best thing for you to do? Stay off of it, or limit the use. Keep it elevated, and ice it down periodically. Sometimes an ace wrap that is not to tightly wrapped can help support the tissue.

The initial healing process will be relatively fast. Like any other bruise. I'm gonna take a guess that you can't put a lot of weight on it or walk heel toe.

In the past I've put softer, thicker insoles in my shoes to take the edge off so I could walk somewhat normally until the intitial bruising has subsided.

The long term PITA will be the residual bruising nearest to the bone. That may take several weeks depending on how bad you did it. You won't notice it much with regular walking but with running or any heavy impact and it will almost feel like it did when you first injured it.

That's been my expirience anyway.

I had an incident with a kite lofted me causing me to come down hard on my foot. I also went for an xray and it was not broke but bruised. Doc said it probably would have been better if it broke as far as recovery time. I did not fly for 8 or more weeks because it hurt that bad. I also no longer jump on grass fields. When I do jump which is not very often, I only jump on the beach.

Hope it feels better soon!

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I have been trying to walk on the ball of my foot as much as possible. I also came down hard from a loft on a grass field. I iced it for the first 3 days and have been putting heat on it as recommended by the doctor and PT here. Bottom of the heal seems to be better, but the outside side of the heal, just in front of that bony nub in the back of the heal and just up from the bottom of my heal is what is still hurting. It's what I notice more now anyhow, but I seem to be slowly coming back. Anyhow...ouch! Beach only is a good idea!

Yup, that's the spot. I found that massaging it really helped. Hurt while you did it but the pay off was quick.

My heel was purple for 8 weeks.... Still hurt, but I was flying in 4 weeks..... Total time till I was 100%...... Prolly 4 months. Towards the end, it didn't hurt that much, just slightly bothersome.

Lesson here: if injured, healing takes forever if you dont rest!

I couldnt resist getting out on my new Fenzy this weekend. Launched forward a bit towards my girlfriend and she ducked at last minute. Good thing is I ust missed her. Bad is that I smacked that same heel again. It wasnt healed up totally as it was and I reinjured it. So im off it again for an indefinite time. Some folks just dont learn. :dunno:

I like the dramatic pause feyd...heh

I hurt my ankle 4+ weeks ago and after it started getting better I noticed my heel was very sore too. This thing is taking forever to heal. It's freezing outside now and I haven't been able to kite in over a month...all I can do is lurk in the forum.

Heal up soon hondamon!

I had to find the thread where I posted about my "little" injury (where I thought I broke my foot). Well I hurt my ankle October 15th, 2011. I basically crushed my foot and had an ankle eversion (where it twists inside - not the normal way). And now today, 8 months later I still have ankle pain, and a weak foot.

I've been wearing a protective boot for the last 2 months to try and let my "bruised talus" heal correctly, but it isn't. Looks like surgery is the next option. All because of one stupid kite mistake and a gust of wind.

I had been so careful, and I still haven't been able to kite, play basketball, or basically run (and sometimes walk) without pain. This really sucks.

It's difficult to have any interest in these forums when I know I can't even run, let alone kite.

Anyway, there's my update - and no sympathy needed, it was my own damn fault! :) Take care all, and be careful!!
