Virginia Beach this Saturday! (small Vid Included)

Todd - 2-11-2011 at 11:29 AM

Epic news... Just gained access to VA Beach! After a 45 minute conversation with a Corporal going through all of the regulations covering anything remotely close to being against regulation it turns up none. :singing: My approach on the subject with him was "safety is paramount" which was complete truth and he liked that. So who's in for some stellar riding on Saturday? Winds blowing on shore 26 and end of the day 20. Hopefully that will hold and I can't wait for WG to see this

Edit: Please anyone reading this ride with responsibility so we don't lose this. Wave to people and be friendly, we are here to educate as well as have fun.

WELDNGOD - 2-11-2011 at 02:06 PM

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 04:59 AM

When and where are you guys meeting? I am interested, but I want to see what travel time is going to be. Thanks!

lad - 3-11-2011 at 05:27 AM

It's over a 5 hr trip for me...but I'm tempted! :karate:

Yeah, with the morning low-tide, I'm not sure the trip is worth the amount of time required... But I'll take a look at it...

edit: Looks like a 4hr trip to Virginia Beach central... Just curious where folks would be meeting up on the beach...

If I wanted to be there AT LowTide, I would have to leave the house around 0600hrs... Thats a bit early....

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 06:10 AM

Public parking on 15 st. Looks to be the ticket which is in front of the pier. Donnie and I plan on being out there around 8ish. Come on guys you know you want to right RICH?

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 07:50 AM

To be there by 0800hrs, I would need to be out my door at 0400hrs. Thats a hair insane. I'll have to think about it...

Question: I'm assuming you would be riding north from the pier?

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 08:39 AM

Yes, correct from the pier all the way to Fort Story close to a 6 mile ride one way. Sunday still looking good as well blowing on shore at 12 all day.

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 09:32 AM

With the later tide on Sunday... I might be able to make that. Still, it is a long drive (nearly 4 hrs one way, not including traffic)...

As there is good winds locally on Saturday, it is more likely that I will go kitesurfing Saturday. Might make the haul Sunday... but I also might take the day to sleep in...

rdavis - 3-11-2011 at 09:56 AM

What are the tides? I'm 99% sure i'm in. I'll just crash early on Friday night and leave early to try and be there by 8/9am, it's about a 4 hour trip for me. I'm itching for a good onshore session, so I'd like to have as much riding time as possible. I just sent you an email ragden.

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 10:11 AM

I'm waffling! Cant make up my mind on what I want to do. Shot Sunnie an e-mail to see what she wants to do... If I can find reasonable lodging Friday night... I might head down then... Maybe I'll bring my kitesurfing stuff and when the tide gets too high, I'll just hit the water...
;)

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 10:18 AM

Just spoke with Erica at the Econo Lodge 757-428-3970. She can do $55 a night tax included for two people. That's not too shabby for a couple people teaming up. Maybe get Nick and Lad to jump in there too... stay the night and ride with us on Sunday.

To get the deal when you call, tell her you are one of the team riders

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 10:20 AM

We neeeeeed Sunnie pictures

Wow... okay... I might just be sold.. need to discuss with Sunnie.. If we can get a couple people that will be very very reasonable. I was looking at the Alamar which is 65 for a room with a kitchen... Anyone wanna get together to crash at the Econo? (long as sunnie agrees)
;)

rdavis - 3-11-2011 at 10:25 AM

$55 a night isn't too bad. I've been considering a Saturday night stay over. If somebody else wants to split a room for Saturday night, let me know. Do we have a head count going for this?

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 10:33 AM

9 people there on the beach with 5-7 riders if every one on this thread that responded shows up. LAD, come on my friend!

rdavis - 3-11-2011 at 10:39 AM

I'm pumped about this. I'm ready to get some good riding in, but I can't wait to see everybody as well. This is exactly the kind of therapy I need right now.

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 10:51 AM

Cool and did I mention that a hottie I met today is coming with her camera (semi pro) on Sunday? She's into brass knuckles :ninja:

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 11:01 AM

Sunnie and I will be there. Currently discussing whether we are leaving early Saturday, or Friday night. Are we doing a bar-b-que Saturday night? lol
:)

Todd - 3-11-2011 at 11:12 AM

Good question... WeldNGod?

cheezycheese - 3-11-2011 at 11:21 AM

;)

rdavis - 3-11-2011 at 11:53 AM

Hey Michael, did you and Sunnie decide when you were going to head down yet?

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 12:04 PM

Looking like Friday night right now...

flyguy0101 - 3-11-2011 at 12:47 PM

Heads Up guys- Sorry i cant make it this weekend , but just got off the phone with my brother in Va beach, and wanted to share a little info from a local kite surfer- Wind should be really good for downwinders since it is suppossed to be blowing NE- also he asked that i mention the Kitesurfer ettiqette down there- The majority of the kitesurfers restrict their kiting to between 42nd stree and fort story. reason for this is it takes you away from the "tourist" area and you will have significantly less pedestrians to deal with. He asked that all of you observe this, because they have had some issues with other out of town kiters not knowing this and would hate to loss their access- please consider riding and staying north of 42nd street.
Scott
PS -for ragden-he mentioned swells today are8-10 ft some of the biggest he has seen in VA beach nd he was out yesterday in full wetsuit and booties.

shehatesmyhobbies - 3-11-2011 at 01:24 PM

Now that I hear that Sunnie is making bulgogie, I seem to be getting rather sick and wight not be able to make it to work on Sunday! It would be worth the trip just for that!

lad - 3-11-2011 at 01:34 PM

I got ongoing vehicular circumstances I have to resolve...if I do, I could possibly leave from DC Fri. eve. But it's a longshot at this point... :(

ragden - 3-11-2011 at 02:54 PM

Lad... if yer in DC friday night... I might be able to give you a ride... Let me know.

edit: Not bringing my water stuff. Wife begged me not to. So... it wont be coming. North of 42nd street? That limits the beach by quite a bit.. Bummer. Well, at least we have somewhere to ride, better than nothing.
:)

lad - 3-11-2011 at 03:29 PM

Thanks...but if I make it to DC, I 'm already good for the rest of the drive. :cool2:

silvereaglekiter - 3-11-2011 at 03:30 PM

Cool, I'll go ahead and book a room tomorrow for Saturday.

Todd - 4-11-2011 at 08:51 AM

A little difficulty with the Econo Lodge, manager has over ruled Erika and now the price is $69 taxes included for two people. Still not too bad @35 per person, just tell them your with the team riders to get the deal. Sorry.

rdavis - 4-11-2011 at 09:09 AM

Room is booked for tomorrow night. Gonna try and be there around 8/9am tomorrow. Early bedtime for me tonight!

I'm sure we could pick up some soju... it is not THAT hard to come by. Not that Sunnie or I drink the stuff... but for the rest of you.. if you want that authentic Korean experience.. by all means, go visit your local liquor store..
;)

lad - 4-11-2011 at 04:04 PM

silvereaglekiter - 4-11-2011 at 06:59 PM

shehatesmyhobbies - 6-11-2011 at 03:59 PM

Glad you guys had a stellar time! So wish I could have been there! I thought about being down there with you guys all day while I was pounding pavement!

Todd - 6-11-2011 at 08:18 PM

YES! The very first VABBB and oh it was a good one. Thank you everyone for attending what is to become the next best event to the WBB. The beach will deliver as soon as the pipe is removed and the downwind run today from north to south was a blast. I will begin to make contacts and lodging soon to set some things up. As of now it's time to heal for the next couple of months. 19m+gust will never do good on the ribs.

70G of footage... Skunked

Great times guys and I thank you all.

lad - 6-11-2011 at 10:28 PM

Let's not forget the fine efforts of the recovery/chase truck crew! :bigok:

WELDNGOD - 7-11-2011 at 05:01 AM

Absolutely without Her,it would not have been the same.:saint:

ragden - 7-11-2011 at 05:24 AM

Had a good time Saturday. We got up thinking we were gonna rock, checked the beach and then we weren't sure we would be able to ride at all. Lucked out that we found some good spots to ride. Wind was pretty ballistic, but we had good times. The cookout afterwards (saturday night) made the trip all worthwhile.

Date: Nov 5, 2011 10:51 am
Distance: 21.5 miles
Elapsed Time: 2:20:42
Avg Speed: 9.2 mph
Max Speed: 33.8 mph

Thanks guys!

Todd - 7-11-2011 at 11:33 AM

ragden - 7-11-2011 at 11:40 AM

Just one question... how did you get down to 16th street? Did you walk up and around the different piers???

Todd - 7-11-2011 at 11:42 AM

They do have a walk way around that section. I started to ride it but entirely too close to the crane so WG helped to tow the buggy for me.

ragden - 7-11-2011 at 11:45 AM

Sounds nutty to me. I'm guessing the wind angle wasn't allowing you to make treks back upwind...
It also sounds like good times...
:)

rdavis - 7-11-2011 at 11:50 AM

Who was that masked man?!?! LMAO :ninja:

Such a great time!

Todd - 7-11-2011 at 11:56 AM

Correct, no way to upwind but wanted to do a scouting run. South beach has lost a lot of sand and Christmas lights have been placed on the beach. Get rid of the pipe and we are golden.

 @ Rian

rdavis - 7-11-2011 at 12:09 PM

I need an animated avatar of that! lol

ragden - 7-11-2011 at 12:10 PM

Guess we missed out leaving early. Popped a couple ibuprofen after I got home, and I was feeling much better Sunday. Probably could have kited if I had stayed. Oh well. Next time.
;)
Looking forward to more of your videos from the trip. Curious how they came out... Bummer you didn't get any shots me of two-wheeling your ivanpah on Saturday... That was sketchy, but she definitely got up there...
;)

rocfighter - 7-11-2011 at 01:13 PM

Ragden you two wheeling the Ivanpah and at WBB Danny two wheeling the Apex Extreme. Both together would be a great video!!

Yeah.. Uhm... no misconceptions here. I did mine ON ACCIDENT. Definitely NOT on purpose... I really have no clue how to intentionally get any buggy up on two wheels, not sure I want to.. I hit a bump and took her up... then set back down as soon as possible...
:shocked2:;)

rocfighter - 7-11-2011 at 01:18 PM

Well at least you can say you did it:Ange09:

shehatesmyhobbies - 7-11-2011 at 03:00 PM

Can't wait to be in on the next vid! Great Job K getting everyone back to the start point!
