Hey everyone! I hope you're having a great weekend. If you're going through buggy withdrawal and don't have plans tomorrow afternoon come join me at Long Beach, NY on Long Island for an afternoon buggy session. (landboards welcome too of course)

Low tide is at 3:40ish, and winds are predicted 13-14 from the SSW (perfect for this South facing beach).

Plan to arrive around 1-1:30PM to set up gear. Should have a good 2-3 hrs before the sun shuts us down. :wee:

Cheezy, Kober, Jaymz- I'm talking to you!

Feel free to email me for more information or directions:

cheezycheese - 12-11-2011 at 09:37 AM

I might be able to make that happen Mike...!!!

cheezycheese - 12-11-2011 at 09:39 AM

will send you a text in the morning... I got my buggy in the car already, but its got the midi tires on... will they do...?

MikeDobbs - 12-11-2011 at 09:44 AM

I don't know what a midi tires is...

The beach at low tide is real nice and hard packed. I have a standard PL buggy with the regular tires on it (3" wide with ribs) and they work totally fine. Check out my vid to get an idea of what the beach looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUY3k2x0Bc8

Bladerunner - 12-11-2011 at 10:02 AM

I could be wrong here but it looks like you could open your down tube 1 or two more spots ?

I used to ride with it short like that and found I was over steering.

It worked for me ? May not for you but it is worth the try ?

MikeDobbs - 12-11-2011 at 01:05 PM

@ Bladerunner- I think I have set it as long as it will go- though perhaps I am wrong.

It feels rather short to me, and I'm a pretty short guy @5'6, so maybe I missed some further adjustment. I was thinking of having a local body shop guy weld together some sort of extension for me because my legs get cramped up after being bent like that for a while.

Thanks for the feedback.

martinipro - 12-11-2011 at 02:00 PM

I'm goingo to try and make it as well!

MikeDobbs - 12-11-2011 at 04:13 PM

martinipro- would be great to have you. Always nice meeting new PKF members.

For anyone interested in joining us, here's a Google Map link to the location we'll be at:

On my way...

Yes , I am only 5'7" and found it odd that I would want my down post extended to it's Max.? I figured it was just another Mod' done by prevoius owners. Frankin'buggy looks similar. With your weight back so far they are a tricky but fun for spinning out.

Hope you all have fun!

MikeDobbs - 13-11-2011 at 04:13 PM

Thanks Bladerunner!

So I'll be the first to post that this was an EPIC afternoon of buggying for the NYC crew :singing:

Cheezy and Martinipro both made it out, and a friend of mine Rob (a local kitsurf instructor) come out to play too. Rob and Martinipro each brought their significant others (both named Kristen), and PhotoMatt joined us with an awesome camera, so we had a good little crew on the beach.

Wind was predicted at 14, but when we got there it was blowing mid 20's and gusting higher! After settling on a 2.5 Imp Quattro (and getting the obligatory 40 ft holy #@%$#! it's windy body drag out of the way) I jumped in the buggy and started putting down some fast runs (for me, that is).

Cheezy and Martinipro both had some blazing runs of their own- and even Rob was charging upwind by the end of the session.

Thanks to everyone who made it out- hope to see more of you next time!

Pics and vid to follow!

rocfighter - 13-11-2011 at 07:24 PM

I'm glad yo guys had a great time. And Cheezy going fast is awesome  I wish I was around I could have made it down to. Maybe next time. Although I don't live in NY.

MikeDobbs - 13-11-2011 at 07:44 PM

rocfighter we'd love to have you! "NYC crew" means anyone who can get to where we're flying that day :cool2:

MikeDobbs - 13-11-2011 at 08:09 PM

This isn't much, but I wanted to get something up to show what a great time we had.

Just so you know, I blow by a group of people pretty close in this clip, but they were all part of out group, not civilians. I give civilians a wide berth and always pass downwind of them and smile as I go by : )

Sorry- couldn't figure out how to embed the video...

Jaymz - 13-11-2011 at 10:30 PM

Thanks for the invite Mike. Cheezy couldn't wait to call and share the stoke. Good to see y'all had a great time.

I was down in DC with the family for the weekend.
While on the double decker tour bus today, we passed a soccer field between the FDR and Lincoln Memorial and there was a guy static flying an approx 2m FB with 2 larger kites staked out and a buggy. Made my day.

cheezycheese - 13-11-2011 at 10:52 PM

Mike THANX for inviting me... My best session yet !!!

rocfighter - 14-11-2011 at 04:57 AM

That was a great run for sure. And the music is awesome. Who is that? At first I thought J.B but then the pronounsiation wasing right of some words.
Mark reread the post under the video. And remember this is a family forum:wow::smilegrin: I luv you man!!

MikeDobbs - 14-11-2011 at 07:23 AM

Thanks rockfighter! Best runs so far- what an awesome day- and made better by having 2 other PKF members come out to fly with me!

The song on the vid is by a group called Flutterbucket that a great friend of mine had years ago. They've long since split up, but if you like the track it's called "She got the goods" and I bet it would make his day if you sent him a FB message telling him you liked it. You can find him at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/joetess

cheezycheese - 14-11-2011 at 07:32 AM

Yeah, I dig that track too Mike. Not on FB but you can tell him his fan base is growing... By at least two...;-)

rocfighter - 14-11-2011 at 03:03 PM

Thanks Mike for the info. I sent him a message.

Todd - 14-11-2011 at 03:10 PM

Nice vid Mike and looks to be a great spot!

MikeDobbs - 14-11-2011 at 05:22 PM

Thanks Todd! Long Beach is killer with a SSW wind near low tide. This stretch of beach is about 10 miles long and we could've run the whole thing but I couldn't hold on to the handles long enough :shocked2:

Are you in the Northeast? Would be great if you could join us for a session some time. We'll be playing here all winter long for sure :wee:

martinipro - 14-11-2011 at 06:08 PM

Seems like SW winds this weekend. 12-14mph.
Can we make it work?! Im stocked can't wait to go out again.

MikeDobbs - 14-11-2011 at 06:13 PM

Martin- If it's blowing I'm willing to give it a try- only problem this weekend is the tides. I think low tide is around 8:30 in the AM, might be too early for the wind. Later, when the wind fills in there might not be enough hard pack for me with my 3" barrows.

Wanna share your buggy :bisou:

Todd - 14-11-2011 at 06:40 PM

Thank you for the invite Mike I'll have to see what I can do and stop by for a session sometime. With 10 miles of beach you might look into a harness

MikeDobbs - 14-11-2011 at 07:28 PM

Todd- a harness would've been great. I normally buggy with my Montana V 7m depower, but in yesterday's winds I felt way overpowered with that kite.

Unfortunately I don't have a small depower in my quiver (although I'm working on it), so that left me on FB for the day. Still an awesome ride, and it was really fun buggying with handles for the 1st time, but definitely limited the length of my runs. Ooohhh, sore forearms!

martinipro - 15-11-2011 at 09:56 AM

Mike: I have no problem sharing my buggy.
Maybe we can get some more people to join us and we'll have more buggies to share. I will keep looking at the winds, will probably make a decision by Friday.

martinipro - 17-11-2011 at 09:25 AM

Mike:

Whats the chance of buggying on mid-high tides?
Winds are forecasted to be SSW @ 14mph on saturday.

MikeDobbs - 17-11-2011 at 10:32 AM

Martin- hard to say. We did get rain yesterday so the sand may be reasonably well packed. I've never gone when it wasn't low. I'd be game to check it out, especially if the wind forecast holds. If the beach is no good we can buggy in some huge parking lots about 10 minutes up the road.

There's also a field up the road that may work, but I haven''t checked it out yet.

cheezycheese - 17-11-2011 at 10:59 AM

What time you guys talkin about....?

martinipro - 17-11-2011 at 11:13 AM

I am game! Any time is good with me.
Mike?! set a time and we can have the second Mike Dobbs Invitational buggy bash

If we are going to be doing this frequently I may have to look into getting some BFs for the buggy.

MikeDobbs - 17-11-2011 at 11:36 AM

What kind of tires do you have now? They looked pretty big to me...

I'll keep an eye on the weather and post sometime tomorrow. Based on what I'm seeing now, I'm thinking sometime in the vicinity of 10AM to noon arrival time.

martinipro - 17-11-2011 at 11:50 AM

I have midis which are 16 x 6.5 x 8" Yours must be standard at 16 x 4 x 8".

10AM sounds good to me. Cheezy, you in?

cheezycheese - 17-11-2011 at 02:38 PM

I dunno, that's cuttin it a little close for me. I have to be at work by 2:30 in Sat.

martinipro - 17-11-2011 at 04:08 PM

@cheezy: If I have to be there at 8AM for you to show up I can do that.

I guess we can wait till tomorrow night and see the forecast. I do think that winds are supposed to be low on the Morning, increasing throughout the day.
