Seat of the pants, extreme winds
Verify with 2 GPS units

I'm installing my wireless bike computer to validate the gps. Having them verify each other will remove doubt about validity. Also, it would be hard
to get the gps/bike computer to match each other by artificial means, taking most questions of credibility out of the conversation.

I can usually tell how fast I'm going by the grin on my face. So my method is GoPro video.

GPS times 3 and take the lowest for record runs.
A big hunk of seat fabric missing and ye-olde-perma-grin should be enough to tell everyone present that you've just set a new personal best but it
helps to have something as a indication.

GPS with smiley face confirmation is good enough for me , unless you beat FAST ARIE's speed , then a combination of all of the above except maybe any
one going that fast has probably moved beyond pinching button holes in the seat.

GPS!
I started with bike speedos prior to GPS. Above 40mph the bike speedo got a little flakey.
