Navigator Bar Knot question

lunchbox - 20-11-2011 at 12:36 PM

Nice kitesurfing session yesterday afternoon. At the end, I release to leash and I notice the knot indicated by the red arrow had went through the swivel and centrix main body and was in the same area as the green arrows are now (I managed to pull it back through). The second knot (shown by the green arrow) was not in the black ball as well. So two questions:

1) Should that knot be there (red arrow) and should it not have gone through the swivel and centrix main body? If so, should I make that knot bigger so it doesn't go through or just leave it alone? So should I undo it?

2) Does the other knot (green arrow) need to be firmly in the black ball or does it matter? If it matters, what is the best way to keep the knot in there?

Thanks in advance...

the knot at the red arrow should NOT be there , apparently looped at some point while extended . UR lucky it worked!

the knot below the ball in or out is fine it has not bedded in yet , just jam it in , it may not fit tight. cloth chaffe tape may bulk it a little to help it stay in but not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the quick reply Phree! Yea...glad it went through or otherwise it could have been interesting. Just amazes me how things can like that happen...I mean how can that know possibly have formed!?! I think I'll make it a point to check all my lines more carefully before each go out!

I'm guessing the line fell through the swivel when things were slack (likely during packing or setup) and the ring dropped through a loop of red line tieing the knot. The knots gets tightened when things get tension on them again. Something to keep an eye on.

another good idea is to replace the end loop with a steel ring. it make it easier to connect your safety leash.

Second Carl's suggestion. Makes life a lot easier sometimes and I think it releases more smoothly.
