2012 OOBE Field Chili Run? (Beech Island, SC) Jan 14

 Pages:  1

pokitetrash - 29-11-2011 at 08:13 PM

Okay, last year was a bust because I was moving and then there was some other s**t I can't remember.

So whos up for January at OOBE Field, (Beech Island, SC)?

I'll supply the chili, corn bread, Kite Fort with HEAT and a place to drop trow.

Throw out some dates ya'll. I'm good any weekend.

Local weather

Field Location (Bing)

Field Location (Google Maps)

Get your ear muffs and big boy panties on --(you too ladies)

EDIT* In case you havent flown at OOBE Field, it comes by it's name naturally. Wind ranges from almost zip to scream- like-a-girl (in about 1 second sometimes) so bring low wind machines & gust munchers JUST IN CASE.

There's a bar almost across the street from the field called "Iron Horse Saloon" and you can Nav to this address: 2510 Storm Branch Rd Beech Island, SC 29842 and the the field entrance is about 100 yards up the street.

Lately the wind's been blowing from the West. Makes for a good diagonal run across the largest part of the field.

WUHOO!

PHREERIDER - 7-1-2012 at 05:49 PM

wet and cold hopefully the water drops wed/thurs

dry north ! should be fun!

soliver - 7-1-2012 at 09:32 PM

I usually find that here in Atlanta, Windfinder's forecast are higher than the actual wind speed. Not sure if that's the case there.

Not to mention, that when I posted it a few hours back, the forecast was in the 7 and 8 range

We shall see!

tridude - 8-1-2012 at 04:13 PM

Im seeing low to mid teens from the west, sunny near 50.....................that would be awesome! Soliver, Im bringing my buggy and landboard if you need something to ride! I think Pokite has a buggy and tandem or two buggies as well...............8.5 and 6.6m Blade 3s, couple Flysurfers, and and inflato or two as well if you want to try something different...............Phree are we making the swap this weekend?
Two harnesses seat and waist if any needs one...............oh and the rice cooker and Calrose....................::puzzled:

knkmannthey - 10-1-2012 at 08:05 AM

That would be some the best winds I have seen outside on the outer banks and the Oregon coast.

PHREERIDER - 10-1-2012 at 08:23 AM

SAT is the day, however friday looks like a peak for sure ATM, but this could drift to SAT . forecast my fill in even better for SAT.

does look like a 8-10mph day on sat ATM.

pokitetrash - 10-1-2012 at 06:30 PM

tridude - 10-1-2012 at 06:37 PM

http://windmapper.com/FL/observations

Sat looking nice.........................

soliver - 10-1-2012 at 06:43 PM

I've been checking windfinder regularly,... Its the only forecast I've found that goes a week in advance. But I find its not always reliable for speed. Good with direction though.

It might just be all the interference here in ATL though.

But its telling the same story: mid to high teens... should be sweet!

knkmannthey - 10-1-2012 at 06:50 PM

Stoked about the wind forcast. That should be sweet flying. Kites should fly great in that speed of wind.

Chili Run

MyAikenCheeks - 10-1-2012 at 11:31 PM

Hey PoKite, what time can we open the gate Sat.? Can't wait!

Will fly Sunday if anyone wants to.

Go through the north gate and follow the road till the fence and trees stop. Take the road to the right up to the top of the hill.

pokitetrash - 12-1-2012 at 05:07 PM

Yep. Once you turn in just follow the dirt road until you see my camper. Take a right there and stay on the dirt road. You can park on the grass behind me but dont drive across the field. Looking like a good weekend. Sorry you can't make it Titanflyer. Maybe we can plan a spring meet up.

pokitetrash - 14-1-2012 at 09:17 PM

Yea I had a really great time! Good to see you all. The wind was flaky as usual but still had a great time. YEA that chili was hot! You gotta be tough to ride at OOBE!

soliver - 14-1-2012 at 10:24 PM

I had a great time today guys,... Good chili, new friends, and way better wind than here in ATL... That was the first time I've scudded with that beamer, it was SWEET! Wish I had gotten there earlier!

I know you guys said the wind was not so great, but it was better than it is here. I really had fun!

Thanks for the buggy lesson Pokite! Let's see how long it takes before I can convince wifey to let me snatch up a used bug ;)

Davis hooked me up with a boatload of stickers... will be adorning car and helmet soon!!!

It was great to meet and fly with some kite-folks!!!

P.S. I have a short vid of Don (I think it was Don) crossing the field in his Bug,... if you want, I can post it.

knkmannthey - 15-1-2012 at 05:43 AM

Thanks to very ones for the help and freindship. It was great fun with new friends. Great wind even if it was flakey. Learing to fly hard wind gives you good kite control experince for when the wind is good you know how to handle the kite. Also help for the time the winds gust in the nice flat winds day you know what and how to get the kite out of of the danger zones. i thisnk most inland spots are like that. Thank do putting it togther Chris we have to do it agnin. Also we have to get out to Sullivan Island and try it thier aslo Don. It had good to watch people who know what ther doing. It was good to try new things and build condfiince in my kite flying skills.

Agin thank to all that was there it was a compleat blast.
