Peter Lynn Toques

macboy - 3-12-2011 at 11:16 AM

Okay so here's a mystery and I'm wondering if any other PL beanie wearers experience something similar.

Just finished carving about 20,000 pounds of ice and was wearing the PL toque during the process but the stupid thing somehow kept rotating on my head. Sometimes 90 degress, one time a full 180. I had plenty of time to ponder what was rotating it but have come up with nothing. It's bizarre - the only hat that does it. Not that it'll solve world hunger or anything but it's a fun little mystery. And heck - why not get the PL logo front and center when the tv crews show up to film the carving right?

There could have been some magic in that PL hat I found ; )

I think you are fibbing about it being the only hat that does this. This is obviously the world's way of telling you that you need to rethink the corkscrew haircut. I mean really.... it's just so '80s.

Seriously I have never had any hats do that to me. Of course, I am currently sporting squirrel hair (extremely short), so the little spikies may just lock hats into place.

Sam

Did you actually have it filmed? See if the flying chunks of ice off the saw were catching the hat in some way. I once watched a pro-logger with a freshly sharpened saw, and the kerf flying off the blade blew his hardhat right off his head!

RedSky - 3-12-2011 at 01:39 PM

Yeah, they point to the magnetic south pole. Were you pointing north at the time ?

bobalooie57 - 3-12-2011 at 01:52 PM

WOW! :o I just checked the link in your sig, RedSky, and WOW! just doesn't do it justice! How did you muster the moxie to even pump up that kite, never mind launch it! Awesome job!

bigkid - 3-12-2011 at 03:41 PM

the PL logo thingy is the reason, turn the cap inside out and you will find it turns the other way:D
kind of like the water in the toilet swirls one way in the top half of the world and swirls the other way in the bottom half of the world:lol:

WELDNGOD - 3-12-2011 at 03:56 PM

it probably is something to do with the knitting process. It has twist in it basically

RedSky - 3-12-2011 at 03:59 PM

@bobalooie57

Thanks!

I was listening to the shipping forecast the evening before, reporting hurricane force winds up north in Scotland and force 10 gales down south. I text a couple of landboarder friends who had the day off school/work to help me launch the kite otherwise I couldn't hope to do it myself. So it's thanks to them that I got a new pb at all.

:)

Wait, are we talking sudden rotation? Like ur walkin along and "BAM!" the beanie does a 180?

I have a few of thos things and never have this happen. No matter what color I wear.

Kamikuza - 4-12-2011 at 01:03 AM

Funny topic

bigkid - 4-12-2011 at 06:21 AM

Here in Seattle the Space Needle's restaurant rotates 360 degrees every hour. Maybe take the batteries out of the cap and see what happens.
Sorry, this thread has the makings of a world class show. I can't stop myself from all the thought of what, and why :puzzled:
We could call this show, "As the Toque Turns". Any possibilities of a vid? HaHaHa,
Ive been chuckling all night about this, Good Stuff.
Cant be the hair on your head, right? :eureka:... got to get to another thread and read on......

BEC - 4-12-2011 at 06:37 AM

To make the hat stop turning.....take some double stick tape and put it on the inside of the hat. Then trim down some 60 or 80 grit sandpaper strips and apply them to the inside. This will surely stop the rotating. It may present a receding hairline in a couple kiting sessions though. LOL

Bladerunner - 4-12-2011 at 09:40 AM

This is the proof I have been looking for !

MacBoy "is" SCREWY in the head !

And not only because you create art just to melt it !

:bigok:

macboy - 4-12-2011 at 01:06 PM

Okay. I'm gonna do a "general purpose wear" today and see what happens. If it rotates again I'll set up a head view cam GoPro mount and do some timelapse.

Come to think about it - if the toque auto rotates I could do those 360 timelapses without need of an egg timer mod.

Don't know if it's the hair. It's quite short right now (growing it back in - lost the cancer fight...whole other topic but we're glad it's over and glad it was a gentle battle on her). I'd be willing to go down to the wood again to further the experiment and get some resolution here ; )

kitedelight - 4-12-2011 at 05:12 PM

that's kinda crazy...I could see that if you were sweating and wiping your brow without thinking.
But, if you didn't..... that's one 'interesting' toque.

AD72 - 4-12-2011 at 10:25 PM

And I though I was going to be reading about the new Peter Lynn Toque snow kite. Has anyone posted that name in the contest?

markite - 4-12-2011 at 10:52 PM

Québec may have Bonhomme but Edmonton has has Mac the Toque

bigkid - 4-12-2011 at 11:28 PM

It just doesn't get any better than this,

rocfighter - 5-12-2011 at 05:58 AM

I think if the hat (what we south of the boarder call head covers!) is only doing the rotation while you are carving, then I would guess it is the vibration of the work you are doing. If it is doing it all the time, then I think what is happening is you think you are a Mounty and you just turn very quickly and the hat can't keep up!
By the way, Do you find yourself in the clothing store trying on pants that are way to big in the thigh area?

macboy - 27-12-2011 at 08:22 PM

OK. Jury is back. Canuck? Will you vouch for me?

Feyd - 28-12-2011 at 05:33 AM

Does it rotate the other way in the southern hemisphere?

I will say I had the damn hardet time getting the logo centered on my head yesterday. There may be something to this silliness after all.:o

snowspider - 28-12-2011 at 09:58 AM

Feyd's on to it , its either the coriolis effect or maybe it has something to do with a shifting of the magnetic poles. Do you have the feeling that you're at the center of the universe?

canuck - 28-12-2011 at 10:13 AM

I witnessed it yesterday. He put it on straight and it had rotated about an inch clockwise by the time he got to the parking lot. We didn't have high wind and macboy even has hair now to anchor it a bit.

Feyd - 28-12-2011 at 10:18 AM

This is starting to creep me right the hell out.:o

snowspider - 28-12-2011 at 11:32 AM

You may have a Peter Lynn prototype creepy crawly hat. You should know from reading this forum that PL prototypes show up everywhere.

macboy - 28-12-2011 at 11:32 AM

Cutting edge technology!

Feyd - 28-12-2011 at 01:42 PM

Does it talk to you? From what I heard the "Creepy Crawly" proto talks to you in a voice that is not unlike Satan's voice. If it doesn't talk then you have one of the earlier "Crawly" protos that were abandoned due to lack of "creepiness" and some front end collapse issues.

pokitetrash - 28-12-2011 at 02:12 PM

You're all missing the the simplest reason.

The PL Logo is like a divining rod pointing you towards a great riding spot! :cool2:

snowspider - 29-12-2011 at 04:54 AM

Test it out macboy , put away the gps and follow the beanie.
