Long Beach Buggy Crew gets noticed!

MikeDobbs - 6-12-2011 at 09:07 AM

Last night I got an email through my YouTube account asking permission to embed the videos. Turns out it's a guy who writes a blog about Long Beach and wants to do a post on our buggying!

Little bit of positive press for our sport:

Congrats Mike .......

Nice, it could turn into an event draw. If Anthony gave a little advance on your next gathering, you might get some interested spectators. Then, who knows? Maybe races at Longbeach! :bigok:

martinipro - 6-12-2011 at 10:56 AM

That is awesome!

Problem is there is not much hard packed for a "big" event =/

MikeDobbs - 6-12-2011 at 11:22 AM

Thanks everyone. Yeah Bob, I'm intruiged by the potential this may have to reach out to people in the community who may be interested in learning more about what we do. Everytime we head out there we get several people stopping by to ask questions- it's so funny, the first thing they always ask is "What do you call this?"

Unfortunately, the beach isn't that wide- but I think we could arrange for some good courses if we don't run too many at a time. Who knows- maybe short course time trials or staggered starts Cannonball Run style! :wee:

GUM BALL!

MikeDobbs - 6-12-2011 at 07:37 PM

What's a GUM BALL?

silvereaglekiter - 7-12-2011 at 06:52 AM

I get it:lol:

MikeDobbs - 7-12-2011 at 05:18 PM

I'm still not getting it- a little help?

bobalooie57 - 7-12-2011 at 10:28 PM

Google Gum Ball Rally, I think it's what the Cannonball Run is based on.

pyro22487 - 8-12-2011 at 03:33 AM

Thanks for the google hint. Im a bit young for that movie (24:frog: ) I only saw cannonball 2 and that was because it was on netflix streaming.

MikeDobbs - 8-12-2011 at 08:09 AM

Thanks for the assist bobalooie57. Never heard of that movie (or race) before.
As it turns out, the Cannonball was the original actual race- then came "The Gumball Rally" (the movie), followed by Cannonball Run (the movie- which was based on the 1979 running of the Cannonball race). Finally, in 1999 Gumball became a real race named the "Gumball 3000"

For any of you young guns on here that haven't seen Cannonball Run I highly recommend you get a hold of it. Classic movie! :spin:

While you're at it, pick up Smokey and the Bandit (Original only, no need to waste time with the sequels).

cheezycheese - 8-12-2011 at 08:18 AM

The opening with those chicks in the Lamborghini was all I could dream about when I was 12...

I remember him from the second movie.

Smokey and the bandit. I Love that movie don't much care for the car but the cops were hilarious Buford T. Justice and Jr.

Interview with the Cannonball Run director here:

It was interesting because he actually made the run.
