I will be at the pre-event and can bring one, two man tent with padding to lend for the duration.

So when is pre event anyways? I cant find official pre dates….

gbrown - 5-1-2012 at 08:22 AM

The reason you cant find official dates is because it is not an "official" thing. It sort of starts about the Friday before the actual event. Although there were some people there the Thursday before last year. All are welcome but it is very primitive camping. The location can vary based on which lakes are dry enough. The last two years we have been at Harpers dry lake which is north and west of Barstow CA about 25miles or so over dirt roads.
Last year most of the lake was too wet to buggy but there was more than enough room to have some fun.
The decision as to where is made the day someone gets there and scouts out a dry spot so it is important to get cell phone numbers of someone to keep in touch. Maybe a Facebook page is in order?
Two rules no promises no whining. No meals are planned but no one goes hungry and it is friends and family having a good time.
I am sure more will be posted about this later on different threads

Awesome. I'm down for primitive camping it has to be better than winter camping when I was a scout. 6 feet of snow fun times fun times. Someone mentioned Mirage Lake bed where is that and do we need a permit. I will definitely be down there Friday I'm suppose to leave here Thursday morning. I figure if I leave Wednesday night I should be there Thursday afternoon. So time for a new thread.

GBrown sums it up. No promises, no whining, windging, or complaining.

We eat together if you want, we play together if you want, and we have a great time.

This is the time the organizers have to play, as the Event keeps us out of our buggy. If Howard says we can play, then play we do, and if not, we play anyway.

Ask anyone that's been, the pre-event is not to be missed!

You listening Mr. Muse???

Oh it's at the forefront of my planning. I have a hard time getting days off with my job so it is a delicate balancing act to pull off non events like this.

Sorry Bobby did you just call the pre event a non event :O !! YOU need to be there!

Howard the Duck?

Hey Sailors....

"Howard"?

He means "Earl"

Our local wind gawd.

He knows what we want...
He just doesn't care.

Might be cheaper to stop at Wally World or Target to buy sleeping bags and pads.
At least more convenient than schlepping them from home.

CAUTION!

When camping at pre-event, don't let this be you:

or this could be you!

Well Georgia Sam he had a bloody nose
Welfare department they wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor Howard, "Where can I go?"
Howard said, "There's only one place I know"
Sam said, "Tell me quick man and I got to run"

I got in trouble one time for asking who was coming, so I don't dare step too close to insinuating there is any organization for this impromptu gathering. No negativity pointed at the "pre" event.

I've got a small two-man tent someone can borrow. Barely comfy for one, or two who are very close. Siamese twins, maybe.

A word of warning... I've had my ass kicked by this tent during a windy "two-days-of-Hell" out there. Just sayin...

Let me know f you'd lke to use it.

Bob.

I went to a pre-event with my wife once, we were not really prepared, all we had was our gear and a rental car which we slept in and everyone who was there acted like family, gave us blankets for the cold, hot coffee, breakfast and I remember going out for morning runs before the coffee was done! It was great! Primal but that is what was so great about it! My wife is not going this time, but I will be there and what is mine is yours...Best winds...Dodd Gross
